it is THE best anime ever made. i have seen it twice. and cried twice. (both times in the end.) it's sooo sad when he dies. THIS ANIME IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE #1 ON MY LIST.naruto shippuden and fairy tail are #2 together. #3 is bleach.

Code Geass was good... but not "#1 on the charts" good. Come on, people! Steins;Gate FTW!

I watched all 50 episodes in one day, and the only anime that comes close is death note, but that's still no where as good. I am a man that never cries and this anime made me cry it's simply amazing.

OMD this is really and truly the best anime i have watched so fa r!!!!. i would encourage anyone one of any age, any gender to watch it. the story line is EPIC and the ending was just FANTASTIC!!!!! I cant put into words just how great it is , especially the ending !!!!

Wow. Just wow.. Just finished watching the second season (watched the last 15 episodes without a single break, the story didn't let go of me even for a second) and totally speechless. It is a brilliant and perfect ending to an intelligent, ever-turning and surprising storyline which throws up so many questions of morale and ethics (which can easily projected on our own world's problems) that it inevitably gets you pulled into the story and the character's very different approaches to world peace, or whatever. Just stop reading this now and start watching. :D Hope they don't mess it up with the third season, though.. The story was set up within the frame of Suzaku and Lelouch's fates, after all - there's no sense in continuing after that.

It depends ,some people do like it and some don't , especially kids ,teenagers like naruto ,bleach stuff . when it comes to story wise plot this is the one of the best anime i would rather say and many people like even graduate students like these animes like this one , deathnote , FML etc . , don't even compare this with naruto ,bleach which is targetted to most kids and teenagers :P

Best anime I've seen. It's as epic as Gurren Lagann yet has more plot and intellect than Death Note. Great story, and I hated finishing it because it was so great. Perfect ending.

i cannot find exact words to say how amazing and how beautiful this show is because asides from the people that say here, there is something unique about this show and that is.. it reflects the society that we have today... each parts are symbolism of the society that we are facing right now, how dark, rotten, useless, and worthless it is. I did not watch season two but season one only will give us a view of the harsh reality in life. The characters also here are amazing because they reflect the kind of people that we have in this society Lelouch, Kallen, Euphemia, Nunnally and others are all representation of the people that we have in our society. Truly, this show is a show that i can consider as classic and a true anime.. i wish there is someone who can change this world like lelouch :((

The 2nd coming of deathnote with very noticeable Voice actors. You will love this anime if you love Gundam and Deathnote. Intense all the way to the end.

It was a very "Can't wait to see what happens next" type of anime, and I did enjoy it, but the plot holes and the way that everything was unbelievably planned out in advance, using that as an excuse for every little mistake, sorta wrecked it a little for me. Intelligent, although a bit predictable, this one goes on my top ten list, maybe not as high up though!

Where is Earth Maiden Arjuna, thats a great anime too, its not even on this list.

@ Dreads Thats a matter of opinion, but the fact that you like it (being in your top 10) is sufficient. Personally, I like teeange schools and mecha robots fighting and psychological animes, which test your mind- I doubt you were able to guess the impacts of these politicals moves, I'm sure you were on the same level as tamaki (the stupid guy from code geass). That's how the anime wants you to portray it as- since we have less time to comprehend the situation, in comparison to them.

Im amazed about this anime... In the first place the plot is good, but it's not extremely the best... If you watch Death Note you have an amazing plot... The end spoils it though... I searched for animes like death note, and this one was the closest to it... It's really an okay anime... But to you who says that you need brain for watching it... You need to watch Death Note, because there is so much more brain into that... Im surprised that Death Note is not number 1, but it's okay... On my list, i would probably put code Geass at numer 6 or 7... I can fairly recommend other animes that are a lot better..

Greatest 50 episodes of my LIFE and that's saying something xD Greatest short anime EVER (below 150 episodes) DBZ being the greatest long anime. Death note = 2nd. Because, Season 2 had a predictable and weak plot. Code Geass had a consistly EPIC plot throughout.

there are a lot of things that are not explained well. but man, this anime blew me away. it kept me thinking for nights on how amazing and epic it is. still crazy about it. all ingredients of the best anime is in here: action, fun momments, most disastrous turn of events, drama that will make your breathing disturb, and of course the epic ending. no doubt about it, lelouch vi britannia 99th emperor of the britannia is #1 praise to the brilliant writers who made this anime possible

It's a good anime but it's ranked to high. It could have been a killer anime with a more realistic inteligence of the main character.

Dumb magic theme, dumb relationships, plot sometimes senseless, but good politics, good morale value, nice battles, and one of the best ending ever in any story ever made. The ending is so good, that people debate over whether the main character is dead or alive. He's dead to me, tho.

I did not ever get into this series I watch most of season 1 and just felt like most the episodes where filler along with a lot of the characters. I myself would place full metal alchemist in the top and i'm surprised rurouni kenshin didn't make it higher in the list...and what is bleach doing way down there..ya a lot is filler as well but still a great anime and even better manga

I totall agree withe everything what the guest 2 steps above said about Code Geass. A truly must see. I have no hard feelings for this anime being no1 as its one of my top 3 favs. My other two aren't even in the list. They are Angel Beats and The Legend Of The Legendary Heroes.

To the guest above me, just because Bleach and Inuyasha are both demon/swordoplay animes, please NEVER refer to them in the same context. Inuyasha was pathetic, with zero character/plot development, and half-baked fight sequences. Bleach is quite the opposite. Just cause it's popular, doesn't mean it's not good... As for Code Geass, a beautiful anime with great depth in practical philosophical situations. One of those great animes that actual gets you to reevaluate yourself throughout the series. a must see

From the look of it, people either love this anime, or they hate it. Generally, though, people only seem to hate it when garbage like "bleach" or "Inuyasha" makes their top ten. I wouldn't say it's the best anime, but it deserves to be high in the ranks. It's actually my third favorite, next to FLCL (which isn't even on this list,) and Cowboy Bebop.

Totally marvelous and the main reason it is first is because of its ending, which totally kills you.

The first season (R1) is really good; I disagree with the previous comment. Although it's far from the level of Deathnote in terms of reflex ion and suspense. The season two is more like a mecha anime. Still it’s an anime that I recommend and if you like Deathnote you’ll probably lke this serie.

L was out smarted by Light. This was a great dual between a veteran mastermind and a young mastermind. This is better than Codegease.

I liked this show a lot both L and Light were both likable characters but Misa was a little annoying. This could be one of my favorites.

One of the most psychologically thrilling shows I have watched in my entire life. The beauty of this anime is that there is not even one drop of violence, however, the anime takes you on a journey deep into the recesses of the human psyche and allows a "chess-like" battle of the minds to ensue from the very first episode to the last. It is breathtaking in the least bit that such an original and thought provoking show could even exist, let alone it being an anime. This is not for someone who wants visually stunning images, but more of an anime that forces the watcher to engage in a mental war between two brilliant and competent minds, and once your on the ride is unpredictable and ground breaking.

This anime is one of the best I've ever seen. Definitely a psychological thriller letting you into the mind of someone who is driven to being a sociopath in the quest for God-like power over the world by killing people with, of all things, a notebook. So many twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The ending was slightly disappointing and I imagine if something like this happened in the real world, things would have surely turned out differently at the end. The genius of several characters in this anime is, at times, hard to believe, but this is one anime you don't want to miss out on. No blood (well, not really..), no gore, no ninjas, no fighting. This is purely a mind twister that will keep you wondering what will happen next. A must watch!

death note is great,different from the other usual animes. Here the main character is not the usual protagonist who goes on saving his friends lives. But a person with Utopian mind who will do any dirty tricks to fulfill his gream. But i should say i like L better.

If anything's overrated it's Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Death Note deserves it's place.

This just might be the best anime of all times. I can't put into words the excitement i got right of the bat. 1st episode got me hooked . I have watched it 7-9 times i can say i haven't grow bored of it yet.

Death Note is great, for some very few and simple reasons. 1) originality, it revolves around a note. 2) due to the rules the game changes a lot 3) no character is safe 4) characters aren't flimsy 5) makes a nice twirling descent of the main protagonist. To be fair i haven't seen all anime listed here but Deathnote i think appeals to more people even people such as myself, which aren't that big fans of anime.

This show by far is one of the greatest shows of all time. Love, Hate, Justice, Thrills, Chills, Plot Twists, action, this show has it all. The way that you never know how the show will end until the very end is what made this show great. Any naysayers just couldn't grasp the depth of the show.

While this anime was good, it is not deserving of #2 or #1. Many animes beat it including Code Geass, which surpasses Death note by far.

Overrated. There are many better anime (FMAB, Durarara, Berserk, etc.) and Deathnote goes way downhill way too early. Also the characters are mediocre and it is not very deep or intelligent. A very entertaining show, but it should be no higher than 30.

Death Note is class above compared with Monster. I watched both series. Monster starts good and plot is more realistic. But it had too many subplots, the hole anime is long and ending was epic fail. Main character is much more likeable in Death Note and plot is more intense and dramatic.

Death note is probably the best drama anime so far. Many people might thing the ending wasn 't good enough, but in my opinion it was the best possible and most unexpecting ending. The incredible plot will just make you want to see more and more. An addictive masterpiece written by a really creative mangaka, who has also written Bakuman.

Lol no. Monster featuring Johann Liebert is an anime that is far better than death note. Johann Liebert is one of the greateast villains in Anime history and the storyline and plot of Monster are far more sophistacated than anything death note has to offer. BTW their are better animes than monster. So putting Death note on your list as number 1.... Not really. Death note is a good Anime no doubt but it definatly shouldnt be number 1.

This was the first anime I ever completed watching, and to this day it's still the best (for me). Although I kinda hate the ending of it. And if I have to compare it to code geass, I'd say that code has a pretty obviouse plot while death note keeps you in suspense for the whole ride. Anyways this one should be 1st imo.

Gods of death, again, show that the writer is in complete power, especially of his psychological theories, which we will never be able to comprehended fast enough, and will seem to be a true form of art. Many people, indeed are fascinated by this concept, however other smart minds (especially with scientific knowledge) will not spend their time writing a manga. Any real detective will tell you this is a load of bull, and the lack of technology is absurd (forensics anyone?) Don't get me wrong, I believe this to be my top 5 animes, but don't spout out that this is the greatest anime, basing it on 'brains' - I believe you meant to type 'wit', brains will technically be inaccurate. P.S= Don't be shy, name some of your other animes, in order for us to understand your persona better :)

@ Dreads + others..... You do understand that the writer is in complete control of his probabilities and assumptions. It's only a master plot, because the writer made it that way. There is only one great detective (ironically is set in Japan as well + also a teenager) who is the extremely smart. The bases of some law’s are fake, this is to say they are not technically right and are always in favour of the writer. Additionally, this was set in a modern time, no? Therefore, why didn't light run a face match by taking a picture of L, or even Watari (the butler)- I mean there is a newspaper written about watari and him abducting from an highly intelligent orphanage. This would have led to the orphanage being discovered, and nero and mello would have been discovered along with L, there is always be records; funny this is, the police never even mention there security database- especially since its was the whole world had a conference. Light can easily access his father computer database, who is the leading police man if Japan, therefore this information would be easy to obtain- any real detective would tell you this and light already helped in a case, he should be well aware of this.

Death Note... An epic encounter with Light Yagami and L... It's the best anime out there and should be on first place... I have watched so many animes, and non of them have a plot like Death Note... The plot just goes through you psychologically, and drives you to watch the whole thing... It's a battle between brains, the best brain wins... The only anime of it's kind, i searched for animes like this one... But there just ain't one to be found... Thumbs up for this one..

If you are new to anime, then I recommend you start with this one. This was the first anime I have watched and it still is the best for me. The storyline, characters, and narration are both intriguing and fascinating. Also, I think the ending was sad but necessary. If I was the writer I wouldn't have any other way.

it has a nice start. cool storyline. but it bored me. especially after L died. no action that will make you surprise. i can say it has poor character growth. u will not laugh. u cannot feel any emotion. its actually a very cold anime. pure strategy that sometimes go overboard. plus the disappointing end. code geass still occupies the 1st place.

Unbelievable story, full of suspense and action. The characters are amazing, and usually I'm not the kind to sleep late to watch anime... but this was an exception. AND also do yourself a favour and don't become a fanboy and stop watching after L dies. You will miss out.

The most grandoise anime i have ever seen! I am usually more into gore but this one has completely moved me!! The devious yet noble character of Light who will do absolutely anything to see a new world without evil, then Lawliet's extraordinary deductions and skills... Nate's childish side backed by unrivalled brains and Mihael's sacrifice! Though I must say that season 1 was better than season 2, i wish Light and Lawliet could work together till the end!!!!

Excellent plot, and the main characters actually have depth. It leaves you thinking about it long after you've seen (or read) it. Although, I agree, the ending was a bit disappointing.

It's not my top favorite- Okay, YEAH it is. Hard to explain. But yeah, best EVER plot. best EVER character development. The anime manages to stay serious at nearly all times, but each character's obsession makes up for the ONE anime expression used: Misa ate nasty apple and there were little yellow dancing arrows. Somebody once had bubbles over their head, but i don't remember who. Anyway, THIS SHALL STAY FIRST. IT PWNS.

This is one for the history books. Plot wise this is the most brilliant anime out there, untill you get (Season) 2. The battle between Light and L is epic, the way they try to outsmart each other captivates the watcher and makes you want to see more, develepment in the anime is good, characters evolve steadily, making it more interesting. ending is tragic, it ruins the things they did untill it. Bigger buzzkill than buzzkillington. Still one of the best out there. ++ for seriousness

Clannad shows that you don't need ninjas and swords for i to be good. It just IS good. The way it's written, the way it's portrayed, the characters, the story, the animation, the music etc. that's all what makes it so good and it definetely deserves to be in the top 10. I think Kanon and Air should be in the top 10 as well. Having one Key anime on the list and not the others kind of looks misplaced.

I love clannad! The after story was to depressing for me but the first one made me laugh along with those dramatic moments and stuff that could make you cry but not to sad. perfect!

A really great example of how an anime SHOULD be done. Clannad shows you don't need action and violence non-stop. It has morals, values and life lessons with a very subtle touch. After Story is easily one of the best animes I've seen. You look at it and then you relate to your own life. This may change your perspective on what you need. Why anyone would hate on such a lovely tale is WAY beyond me. Fantastic anime. Highly reccommended.

I have just finished watching clannad, and I think it is the best anime ever. This is the first anime that makes me cry especially during the death of nagisa and ushio.

This is one of my favorites... the first season is great, but the second season is what really makes it amazing. It's so sweet, happy and sad at the same time. You can't help but cry.

This list needs to be evaluated by smart people, no little kids and lonely romantic little fangirls. Please, know about anime before you commente or make a top ten!!!

I prefer Wolf's rain to Code Geass, so for me, Wolf's Rain is No. 2. If you want a good story with heart, that is told in a cohesive manner without a bunch of plot holes and annoying characters, give Wolf's Rain a chance. It lacks the flashiness of Code Geass, so It might not be for everyone. but it also has characters that you truly feel for and the soundtrack is simply breathtaking.

Okay, Wolfs Rain was great, unique, and had a decent plot that gives it to your strait. However, this anime is not for everyone. I can easily see how someone could quit watching do to being bored. It's not very action oriented but there is action points. This anime tells a story, and not finishing it is like not finishing a book half way through. Watch it, and keep an open mind. Not something to watch it you want non stop action.

its a must watch anime and it'll always be in top 10 anime......it has a jaw dropping concept and a good narration....if u cant keep up with the concept or if don't like those kind of fantasies then u wont know a hell out of it

ugghhh, not to be negative, but I'm almost done watching hellsing and I finished bebop right before starting hellsing, and these animes are on two whole different levels. Bebop was brilliant. Hellsing was rather mediocre. Which made it higher on the list? Oh well, I guess I expected too much of popular opinion :P

Some used the perfect word to describe it above imo, Unique. Its a very original themed anime with "cool" characters that i would recommend to people that r getting into anime.

Watching Bebop is like living life. No predictable plot for each episode, and episodes don't always connect to each other. But somehow every episode is entertaining. Best anime ever.

hooked the first time I heard the opening theme song. I love old western movies and books and this show had that feeling to it, except set in the future. and the best part, although set in the future, is that there are not giant robots

Agree with the last guest. And you are right it did feel too short, simply because it was one of those great animes that you never wanted to end. However, the creator specifically said that he wanted it to end the way it did to show that there is a finality to everything.

I watched this show. It was good but not worth that high of a ranking. So many better shows.

I came to this list looking for a new anime to watch and chose this one first. It really surprised me at how good it was. There is a lot of fighting, pretty much in every episode especially early on and things are quick to develop. It does have a few "lulls" in the story, but overall, a surprisingly good anime. Ninja's with different and interesting abilities doing a lot of fighting. Action, blood, a bit of gore, a bit of nudity, sexual themes and and underlying love story with a sad, but appropriate ending. This anime does a lot of things right, so give it a try if you haven't already.

Just finished all 26 episodes. It was toony, but good. You really need to be a teenage girl to like this one. The story and dialog could use a lot more work. There were just too many things that only happen in dreams to make it flow and have it make better sense.

OMG I loved the characters in this, they were just moving and beautiful. the story line is good but the ending left you wanting more. Watch the Hellsing Ultimate OVAs. They are true to the manga and in every way superior to the original (story, action scenes, characterization, length, animation, etc.) The OVAs are great but the original is fairly overrated.

I haven't seen Hellsing the anime, but i've seen the OVA's and they are truly incredible. Gets really bloody sometimes but some might agree that this only makes it better. As far as I know there are many versions of Hellsing, on the opinion of my sister who recommended Hellsing to me, the earlier versions of Hellsing don't follow the manga as well as the OVA's (not to mention the terrible dialogue). Plus Alacard is waaaay more attractive in the OVA's :)

Loved this serie, and the OVA's are great. Lots of gore and raw action! Some people probably don't like bloody series, but for the ones who do like gory anime, this one is the goriest (not sure if its a word but you get what I mean :p)

this show is for kids, so if this list were called "top 20 children's anime series", then it should be near the top of the list. but that's not what the list is called, and it's a shame so many people think this show is good. they obviously either haven't grown up yet, or haven't seen any other good anime.

I love both of these as well. They have good and interesting stories, even though they sometimes talk forever during the fight scenes. These have a permanent home in my ever growing anime collection. Make sure you find the uncut versions.

Here's the thing about Dragonball and Dragonball Z. This is the one that really put anime on the map around the world. Sure, the fights are long and repetitive, but when the fighting is over, it was always worth it. The Buu saga, also the final saga to DBZ was the worst one mostly, IMO, because of what happened with Gohan after his showing of power in the Cell saga, which was absolutely thrilling from beginning to end. Things moved slowly which was a little annoying at times, but it was worth it in the end. Dragonball Z deserves to be recognized for significantly increasing the awareness and popularity of anime outside of Japan single handedly. That's why it will always be one of the best animes ever made. I enjoyed several animes more than DBZ that I've seen, but DBZ will always have a place in my heart. I would have never gotten into anime at all if it wasn't for DBZ. GT sucked, though. For some reason, I never watched Dragonball though I have all the episodes on CD's somewhere. I really should watch it one day.

it used to be my fav...but then i watched other anime n now i really kno what made me like others more..it were the lessons n the depth in the story...dbz was good but it is what i believe nothing more than a show of power...db was better because it atleast had a plot..but dbz however sucks

Dragonball Z is entertaining but quite frankly it definitely is NOT one of the best animes. The episodes are drawn out too long, it is not believable, every saga is basically the same: new villain who is extremely powerful, goku must get stronger, goku is delayed, people die, goku beats villain after about 10 episodes, they get the dragonballs and wish everyone back to life. Also, there is no deeper meaning to anything that happens, and the graphics are not good in the beginning of the series.

As someone who DIDN'T grow up with this show... sorry, but this show is really boring. There are entire fights which last many episodes, most of which is spent talking and flying around the air. Compared to just about every other anime, the action is incredibly PAINFULLY slow. It might have been good if every episode wasn't so drawn-out.

Most people this anime is overrated just because it's well known. Dragon Ball is way better than those rip-ofs Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Soul Eater, Beelzebub, you name them! The list could go on!

Dragon ball + Dragon ball z = the greatest thing ever to happen to anime. Dragon ball GT was done by some next new director, but then the real/ old director came back, and fixed his really rubbish job- thus, he killed dr mew (the big bad boss, by the new rubbish director) and created the baby saga and onwards, which was EPIC).

These 2 shows should not be lumped together as they are so different from each other. I love them both but imo the original Dragonball is the better series. Characters are more dynamic and plotlines are much more compelling.

You have to watch it all in japanese over the english version. way less kiddied up. i thought i wouldnt like the original dragonball after watching season 1, but i was amazed when i watched it through. . Basicly this show all got us sucked into anime in the first place, for which we should be grateful. Dragonball sucked you in with its descriptive storytelling in the most boring situations. The later adapted z's shows were annoying and i agree with other comments sucked. But im glad i watched this show when i was 5 as well every morning before school, along with other shows that now suck compared with the new stuff.

Er If you liked this or didn't like this, Fate Zero (the prequel to this, but it came out afterwards) is way better in ALL aspects, and Fate Zero totally changes your view on some of the characters in fate/stay night.

Ah, fyi Fate lovers (i am one myself)... but the whole series is based off a hentai book! there is a reason some of the characters and story only go so far - lol. But to its credit, it's still very entertaining; the prequel is awesome and the movie is as well. I think once they realized there was a great story to build off of they did. If you like Fate Stay Night you MUST watch Fate Zero and Ultimate Blade Works.

I've finished this anime 2 days ago and i think it's acceptable but it shouldn't be ranked 8th it should be like 35-40 it's pissing me off to see animes like ergo proxy and claymore and they didn't even reach 20

All of my friends said they loved this show. I watched it from start to finish and yes it did have good moments, but I just can't see how this show got such good reviews. I found it quite uninteresting and predictable.

The Game is one of the best visual novels of history to come(also Tsukihime game). If you played it, you will enjoy the serie 100%, becouse it may not say it, but is directed to that public. The characters of this production are rather unique in their overall history, personality and design balance. I just will never forget this incredible experience. And yet i am waiting the Heavens Feel route movie...yeeeii-!

I have watched this anime over 50 times, and searched the damn internet for season 3 for almost 2 years. I finally found that season 3 "Vampire Knight destiny" is on it's way to Australia some time in 2013. For anyone who loves vampire based romance/action/twists and riddles, season 3 is going to leave you spineless, it will actually because the secret was revealed in Japan yesterday on a Japanese news channel and boy the cover looked EPIC! And for the rivals between who Yuki should take as her husband, it's gonna leave you sitting on the floor crying for weeks. Okay, everyóne saying this is like Twilight, just can it. Twilight came out way after this awesome Anime/Manga and don't you dare compare it anyway. Vampire Knight doesn't rely on its love story only and everyone who watched it will know the series doesn't even focus on Yuuki but on Zero at the beginning. The story even gets prety complicated at the end. This is by all means the best vampire-based Anime I've ever watched.

It's way too much like twilight and I feel like I've seen it all before you know? If you're just starting out into anime then it's a good watch but otherwise I'd recomend something different

i watched the first season waiting for something good to happen... nothing, i started whatching the second season, it was just as boring, no guy in there right mind would like this, and us girls only whatch it for the cute guys, pretty crappy anime with a crappy plot...

Mostly a girl-anime. Tried to watch it, got tired of the repetitive talking/sucking blood/etc. Reminds me too much of that crappy book series, Twilight.

What?! Number 18?! you gotta be joking...I know there's a thousand episodes and it drags on but this should be number 1. first off, it's the most inspirational anime I've ever seen. It will make you cry and you will never feel sad the show has ended because it's still going. All the episodes are planned out very well and might be used for something later in the show. You must watch WAY more than 3 or 5 episodes to grow a liking to it but once it got really interesting, you will get hooked!

You should not judge Naruto from just watching the first few episodes. I love how someone said that Naruto always ends up defeating his opponents in the end. That's not really true. I loved this anime because it's more realistic. Good people die, and bad people die. There are difficult things that Naruto does overcome, and some of them he doesn't. Shippuden makes this anime even greater, too. They only made the filler episodes because the anime caught up with the manga. The filler episodes don't really matter that much to watch unless you read the Manga. Btw. Don't skip the Filler Episodes. Bad idea, because they weave important stuff into the filler episodes, so you might miss it.

Number 19? Seriously. No. This should be number one. This anime wasn't just a show to me. It was much more than that. It inspired me in so many ways in life. I'd been lost in my depression and I couldn't figure out what I was going to do with my life, but after watching Naruto... I was so happy and I realized my dreams and goals. It's such an amazing and inspiring anime, and it's fun and entertaining. Sure there are a lot of filler episodes, but honestly, those were all pretty good too.

Where is Naruto Shippuden,Fairy tail, Bleach and One Piece they should be in top 5 with Naruto in my opinion...

Naruto? Number 23? Something isn't right. Yes, I am aware that it has a bunch of fillers that may make viewers lose sight of the real plot. But so what? This anime has very inspiring and pleasant characters, a superb storyline, fight scenes that can leave you speechless, and some very useful life lessons that some people could use nowadays. This series deserves someplace in the top 10. I mean, really? (I don't hate these animes by the way) D.N.Angel, Elemental Gelade, and Ah! My Goddess are in the top 10? Are you serious?

Great story line, good character development, well done twist, great manga, but anime wise... uhm, I believe Fillers episodes destroy the story. I love Naruto, I honestly do. But the fillers started to bore me, like for this certain season there's at least more than half Fillers than the original story. Additionally, supporting/side characters are so numerous it's not even funny at all. Side the fact each of those side characters has their own past story that's been narrated even though the connection to the present event is way too far to be considered important. Those thing made this anime bad, thus the reason I quit watching it.

naruto is the first picture that comes to mind whenever a person hears the word 'anime'. right now, the francise is practically the DEFINITION of ANIME, or pretty much JAPAN.

Naruto is the best Anime ever. The number of charatures/ "powers" per charature will amaze you. The fighting and battle animation totally rocks. It starts so simple and childish but developes into a huge and very dynamic story. The charature development is really good. There is alot of comedy and slap-stick type stuff I guess so it's nice to laugh every few episodes. There is a really cool spiritual concept throughout the anime. I also liked the idealist and positive thinking protagonist. I highly recomind watching it but only if you watch the whole thing. Naruto Shippuden much also be watched aw well seeing as how Naruto is only half the story.

I'm 31 years old. I've been watching anime longer than many of you have been alive. Naruto is a great series. Some of you think you can't like it because it's popular. Don't want to ruin your rep as a hardcore anime freak huh? Forget that nonsense. The show has a great storyline, with plot twists that are perfectly coherent and come at just the right time. Character development is second to none. It has humor, sorrow, wicked fight scenes, and anything you could want from an anime. Unfortunately, like all my other favorites, I fear for the ending of this show.

At the moment this is by far my favorite anime. I liked the fact that the writer(s) took the time to develop each character, especially Naruto. Unlike Bleach, which i love by the way, you can see the gradual progress of not only the characters but the plot as well( the fact the Naruto wasn't an overnight hero is quite refreshing). This is one anime where sheer hard work and determination beats it all. Even though it's a long series, the plot stays strong and does not deviate, the characters; you can't get enough of. It's an excellent piece. My only problem is waiting for the next episode, one a week, i think I'm really feed up with that. However, to the writers and directors of this anime, i applaud you.

This anime Continues in Shippuden .... Where the main characters grew and mature .... a lil kib would lose interest because its very mature .... I personaly Hated it once but .. I have come to realize that its the best Anime in the world ... bleach came First of Course ... i was hating on one piece too... but now its one of my favorite .... The rule is if you like watching anime give each and every anime a chance to prove themselves how nice they can get..I mean they entertain us after all (Naruto~Naruto Shippuden~Bleach~One Piece) are now my top Favorite anime and to think that I use to hate...I just give the a Change .. and next thing you ..THIS happens!!!

This anime should be way up on the list. Seriously, anyone who has gotten through the show has been hooked on it. And yea, it has fillers, but the story is worth all the fillers. Just looking up information on the characters in the show make me believe that this anime should be considered to be the greatest anime ever created. The show gets so ridiculous that its ridiculously awesome! One Piece, Death Note, DBZ, and FMA should all be in the top 10 or 15 at least.

Naruto is a decent anime with some of the most epic fights you could find in any animes. Naruto vs Pain fight for example. The only drawback of this anime is fillers, which you can skip. But once again, fighting elements in this anime are extremely well made which you will not be able to guess or predict.

Two phrases: 1. CP9 arc 2. War of the best arc If you watched those two, you now this is better than Naruto, Bleach, Death Note (been trying to finish DN for two years, always get bored, same with Code Geass). It continues to get more intense and the world keeps opening up without feeling forced or artificial (like Bleach)

I agree that all of the Naruto fillers absolutely KILL the show. But i just watched it all together and skipped the fillers and it is a great anime. You have to admit that some of the fight scenes in naruto shippuden are second to NONE. Team 10 and Kakashi vs. Hidan and that other dude, the fight sequences in that scene are some of the best of all time. But seriously cut it with the fillers

Full metal alchemist is like 80 episodes (15 eps from orignal anime, the rest from brotherhood)- how is the comparable to the dragonball franchise (dragon ball and z are mixed- GT was directed by somebody else, well the start anyway and is not part of the manga). Please tell me how 350+ episodes are compariable to a mere 80. Like I said before, long animes (above 150 eps) should not be compared to shorter ones. Code geass and death are the 2 greatest animes ever. However, for mecha the gudam franchise is far superior (for mecha only, not as a whole). This is because not many japenese or other countries have watched avatar. Additionally, you say you say you don't like short animes- you do know nearly all of the TOP 50 animes in this list, if not the world, consists of animes below 100 episodes. The BIG 3 (naruto, bleach and one piece) shouldn't really be considered to shorter animes. This is because, these mangas (comics turned into anime) have SOO many episodes because they were extrmly popular, especially in america (well more naruto and bleach then one piece- but one piece is most popular is japan- and one piece was cur of in america cause they kept cutting half the ****- cause they thought it was inappropirate). Personally, one piece is far better than bleach, but just a little under naruto. But, DBZ is the best. Fairy tail, one piece, naruto, DBZ and bleach should be only be compared together. Overall, you should get into the habit of shorter animes, if you plan on watching, whats known as the greatest animes of all time. However, nowadays the new anime trend is reallly long ongoing animes tend to be the better considered the better animes (especially in america).

The first couple of arks are good. But after one of the mail villains die (Oorichimaru) and after the attack of Akatsuki it has just become so lame that i am no longer watching. And they have entire filler arks.

If you take out all the fillers, there's only 10 episodes left. You only get one fight every 6 months!! Great, NOT.

Great anime a must watch, however too many filler episodes and way too much taling before, during and after most if not all fights in the whole series.

I am really surprised that this is ranked so low, this and Bleach should be way higher on the list. For those of you who are complaining about the filler episodes and Naruto's cheesy speeches, all I can say is to read the manga, there are no filler episodes or filler arcs. And once it gets to Naruto Shippuden, the plot gets to be really good, really fast and keeps getting better as the plot moves along. Also, once you get to Shippuden, Naruto's character gets much better, he stops making cheesy speeches and he gets much smarter as well. Although, in terms of filler eps, there is a total of one that I think is worth watching because it is hilarious, episode 101 is the best filler I've ever seen, I literally could not stop laughing. Now that I think about it, it would be my favorite anime if the plot wasn't so slow, but other than that it's awesome

Again... to people who are not really avid Naruto and Bleach fans... the anime versions are Excellent but you have to NOT watch some of the filler Episodes which ruins your viewing!!! Naruto and Bleach are Graphic Novels so I suggest you watch Episodes that are really in the Novels and Not watch the other Filler episodes and then rethink what you just said about these animes!!!

This anime sucks and should not even be ranked this high. The main character always gives his cheesy long speeches every episode and always magically manages to overcome his opponents in the end.

It sucks! Well maybe not the first part (until sasuke leaves) which has a decent story. I watch it because it was popular and I was very disappointed. To be fair I’d have probably like that when I was 10 years old.

I love this anime. Hate most of the filler (5 tails arc anyone BLAH) and the flashbacks are out of control. Definitely deserving to be in the top 20. If sailor moon beats this and one piece then you're all freaking retarded.

Naruto is good once you week out ALL the freaking filler eps. Shippuuden is making this one of my top picks.

Probably the most hilarious anime I have ever seen. The plot is alright, but don't expect anything hardcore. An anime is pretty light and will not make you hold your breath, but it will definitely make you laugh to your tears.

it was funny, lots of fanservice. Season 2 started censoring stuff, and 10/13 eps were fillers...seriously. Now that I think about it, the only real plot in the anime was in the last 3 eps of each season.

Love this one, they probably set a new record in panty shots back when they made it. Funny anime with a unique plot, season 2 wasn't as good as the first though.

epic anime but terrible ending

This anime has a great storyline, full of twists and hardcore fights. You won't be able to guess what will happen next. Also, It's one of those animes where the main character starts out weak but finds and unleashes powers within itself later on. It's the anime that once you start watching you will get glued to your monitor and will not de-tach until the anime is finished. And once it's done you will be thinking about it for another month, wishing that it had continued.

Claymore is fantastic. It is everything a good anime series should be. Touching well told storyline. Great characters that are more then just talking heads. Great animation/art design. Great voice acting and fantastic music. I really do believe that Claymore is one of the ten best Anime series ever. I just wish more people would watch it and voice their opinions. I also wish they would do a new series covering the rest of the manga.

Very good! Seemed to drag a bit for the last few episodes, and the ending left it open for a second season... but one hasn't been done yet, but I heard they might be working on it currently. But still a really good anime, with amazing characters, a very unique plot, and a beautiful soundtrack. I deffinately reccomend!

I love Claymore for some reason, I can watch it over & over.

This anime is cantered on monster hunters: the claymores. The main plot is quite simple: revenge. It’s a nice fighting anime, a match last for 1 or 2 episode max and when you have a dramatic scene the character don’t come back to life miraculously. If you like realistic fighting anime this is for you! (rated mature)

Really awesome anime! Found this and started watching it out of curiosity. It's kinda like Clannad without the magical orbs that can reverse time or something like that. Even though no one dies in this anime, or do they? It feels like it when the other girls that love the main character don't get to be with the protagonist.

I absolutely loved this series. Great character development and had a good way of changing between characters. Was happy that the main protagonist ended up with the girl I had been routing for throughout the entire series. They were definitely destined to be together. Really good anime like True Tears and Clannad, chock full of drama and romance. If you like these genres you are in luck.

Gunna just go ahead and post on this old thread: I've watched prolly 18 out of 25 on this list. Elphan lied was extremely good for its short season. I am entering the navy seals and I cryed. (A manly kind of course). The manga is so much better, the music is extremely intising and the drawings are masterpieces.

Whoever had seen this anime and found this worthy to cry on is very, I must say, emotional. I've seen hundreds of anime, and this won't even close to my top one hundred. I watch all the episodes, try as hard to understand as to why people love this, but I just can't find anything. The show, the characters, the plot. the everything is flat. If you've been watching loads of anime your whole life you'll see what I'm trying to say. Seen loads of anime like this, and I could only consider this anime as mediocre - very average. Nothing special at all. I know most of you would disagree, but this is my opinion. I'm not against nudity or anything like that. There's a touching scenes/part, yes but those things are present on anime with the same genre. I believe most of those who made a comment are youngsters/teenagers, others might be new to this anime world, but believe me this is far from being a classing or masterpiece as you people love to say. It's worth to watch when your bored but when given a chance, I would not recommend nor rewatch this series. It's beyond my taste. Story with predictable plot, characters, almost harem like touch, and trying hard hero pisses me off. They're just NO. If you want masterpiece, go watch Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle. Or if you enjoy a touch of romance with action, adventure and fantasy, then see Shakugan No Shana.

When I first saw this anime the opening song lured me in from the start. As I progressed through the show it filled with more and more meaning and I never skipped it. Now when I hear the song I have to fight back tears.

Even though this anime is only 14 episodes long (including episode 10.5), I really enjoyed this anime. It's too bad this couldn't have gone on for another 14 episodes because I'm sure there's a lot left out, but still, worth the watch. There is a lot of nudity, but it's not done in a sexual manner. There is some playfulness among some of the female characters, but I never got the feeling any of the nudity was of a sexual nature. Some of those scenes are quite funny really. Overall, Elfen Lied could have been a lot better if it wasn't so short, but I really enjoyed it and would recommend it. There is definitely a lot of blood and gore at times, but it doesn't define the anime nor do the sexual scenes. Watch for yourself.

anime is ok, but the manga is way better.... trust me its worth the time. the story goes beyond the anime storyline with more drama/ tragedy elements and you get a real ending

A great anime, despite the HUGE amount of gore and brutality it is also heart breaking. I think it's the only anime in history to have so much violence coupled with so much tenderness.

Should be in the top 5. Nothing short of a breathtaking masterpiece and the saddest story ever told. I'm not even exaggerating. The nudity and violence is fantastic at emphasizing the main theme of how atrocities such as those committed by Lucy are strongly influenced by the way in which people are treated by their fellow beings. Elfen Lied is so much more than a stupid eechi gore fest, it is a heart-breaking social commentary about discrimination and cruelty, man's inhumanity to man and the tormented mind's intense desire for revenge. Judging a story by its content or presentation is just nitpicking and childish. The "Schindler's List", "To Kill a Mockingbird" or "The Elephant Man" of anime.

this had potential but they pretty much raped the show (in a bad way) one I felt like they focused on blood and tities more than the actual story also it was just to freaken cliche with the whole rape, bullying, homicidal maniac, necrophila trash all in all it wasn't to bad but it was definitely not sad at all at least for me

Oh my god, one of teh goriest animes I have ever watched. Apart from a LOT of blood and nudity, the storyline made me cry. Elfen Lied is a definite must to watch.

Elfen Lied is the best Anime i have ever watched. I finished watching it 2 months ago and i am still thinking about it! I had to send an email to the producer asking them to continue on with the series its that good! Its a must watch!

A mature type of anime with hardcore elements were death of main characters is expected. This anime will make you hold your breath while waiting what's going to happen next. Despite the fact that anime is rated for mature, the characters are drawn like little kids even though they represent adults...so that's kind of lame. But overall, it is a great anime for those who enjoy hardcore and extreme experience.

Wow! I was expecting this one to be near the top, it certainly belongs there! It's been a few months since I watched it and I still can't get the song Lilium out of my head from it. Deffinately watch this one!

There was no real nudity and only someone sitting on a massive pole would complain about it. It doesn't detract from the anime at all. It's an amazing anime and I'm glad it's short because if it were any longer it would have started to drag.

This anime is very strange. It does not excel at any part of it. A little bit rushed, especially in the ending. Characters are quite flat, to be honest. Plot has some holes in it. Nudity is really an extra that could have been cut out quite easily. And yet, it is able to reach down straight to the heart very sharply. Very moving anime, in a truly human way. One of those things that change the way you look at the world. As I said it is not a masterpiece, but it could have been if it did not feel so rushed. Personally, I love it. It still has a special place in my heart.

A good anime, but it certainly is not the best. (My top 10 anime with less than 30 episodes)- very, very few people (1 in every 100 thousand would say this is the best) will think it is the best, or rather it is because they haven’t explored other anime yet- must have watched very few anime with a good standard. A very emotional anime, which will make you cry, It’s got violence (lots of killing and blood done by a child). Nudity- it is just showing upper part of the female body. However, there isn’t any sexual parts- well only one part, childishly touching breasts within a jumper and 2 kisses- nothing more. If you are looking for a thriller anime (Death note, Code Geass, One piece, Naruto, Bleach etc) then this anime is definitely not that- as it was partially predictable. Bottom line, it is just a very emotional anime. In addition, it doesn’t contain much action packed fighting- just simply murdering in one shot, so pretty gruesome.

This anime is so heart wrenching and beautiful. So tragic, almost to the point that it is haunting. Hands down the best anime I have ever watched.

BEST mature anime i have watched, really interesting plot, great characters, lots of gore and nudity to hype your interest. Series is too short and I was some what disappointed with the ending. This should be in the top 10.

As many people are saying, there isn't porn in Elfen Lied, seeing a naked girl doesn't constitute porn in a tv show. Not once will you see vag, people are exaggerating, but the series does use it unnecessarily in some parts(Nu running out of the bath to bust in on Khota and Yuka eating dinner). Very short anime, extremely violent, and very very emotional. The main characters; Khota and Yuka are very shallow characters with very little depth, despite this there are some really interesting characters and some tear jerking moments and the entire series deals with some really dark controversial themes. The plot is a little ridiculous and unrealistic at times(government can't even find one girl who isn't intentionally hiding in the very city they are based in...wtf?) but its very worth it. I liked it so much that after watching 3 episodes on the netflix disc I got...I decided I couldn't wait, so I ordered the complete box set off amazon and got rush shipping and watched the entire thing in one sitting. (I'm a man who enjoys his violence :P)

Elfen lied is probably my favorite anime of all time. Beautiful music "not just lilium the hole sound track" the only reason why people hate it is because they watch the first 10 miniutes and stop....so they think its just nudity and gore. IT'S NOT. there's so much emotion, i cried and im a 16 year old guy. however the nudity is excessive and some parts it could have done without.

It isn't something I'll be watching again. The first episode was great and full of promise but the twists wer not hard hitting. The only character I really cared for was the puppy. And the plot seemed a bit repetitive throughout to be honest. I feel very much the same about death note, so I guess if you do love death note you will love this. Bit if you didn't then don't waste your time.

This is a work of art, the story is sad and makes you want to see more. the ending makes you cry inside. it's just so fking sad, Need to mention the gore and the bloody mess, aswell as the softcore porn in the anime, the characters are great. the main character is especially great. you get the feeling of living and loving with them +++ on this Anime

I won't deny that this anime is amazing. But you have to be kidding me that they didn't use the nudity to draw viewers... Seriously, lets zoom up on the prepubescent vagina to "flesh" out the story.

How isn't this number 1? this is the funniest, amazing anime out there. You cannot get better than this. I can agree though that there are some animes that are so good that they can serpase one piece, but it should've at least been in the top 10 or top 5. I do agree to some of the animes on this list like vampire knight and the others. But this should've been higher. Anyone who is in love with manga should have already seen this show, black butler, death not, angel beat, and initial d, at least a couple of these. And if you haven't, you are totally missing out.

AND JAPAN'S MOST WATCHED ANIME.. the dialogues the author uses are intricately chosen to maintain hilarity of the anime's characters... the art is unique and goes well with every character . .... the most important thing is that as the episodes goes,... the maturity and hilarity of the characters are very evident.. usually as the anime goes on the anime tends to become more mature and dark and dragging plots, this anime doesn't. plus the fact that the fight scenes are EPIC!! This anime is overrated in my opinion. It is incredibly unbelievable. I do not see how an anime can be one of the best if it isn't believable. Also, most of the best animes have no more than about a hundred episodes. When it is dragged out too long it starts losing its effect.

Lots of people dont want to watch it becuz they think tht this is too popular and their too cool for it. But this show brings you magic. Im a christian and i love God. I learn from God, and i learn from OnePiece. OnePiece is about friendshipsnakama, brotherhoods, love, everything. Luffy and his nakamas all went through hardships from being an forgotten, hated individual in the world so this show shows you lots of connection between people and people. You learn lots of realistic reasonings of the real world from this anime. Real good. Hilarious characters too. RECOMMEND

I've watched a lot of anime, and I can call One Piece among my top 3. It is absolutely brilliant. Don't be fooled by the character drawing style in the beginning because later it gets much better and not only do you adapt to it, but you start loving it! You absolutely have to watch One Piece if you are looking for an epic anime with the best fight scenes, abilities, and yeah... boobs...

Don't get fooled by some of the character looks of this anime. Although some of the characters look childish, this anime brings your some of the most hardcore fights where characters have the most unique abilities that you will not see in any other anime. Anime has a very good story-line and even though it has so many episodes, there will always be something new to keep you interested. This anime has its own unique jokes that are hilarious which you will not find in any other anime Overall, this anime deserves to be in top 10.

Gotta say One Piece is Brilliant!! I will admit for those anime fans who are used to perhaps anime with less idealistic story lines and sharper art style I can understand trepidation. However i watched this after i was half way through Bleach and Naruto and was surprised that a could watch it out of shear boredom:P Well choreographed fight scenes, Hilarity and a sprinkling of emotional moments with makes them all the more intense makes this a series worth investing time in. And to all the unreasonable nay-sayers and fan boys, theres a reason its the No.1 selling manga and one of the highest rated animes of all time...and no matter how much you attempt to force your opinion on the world nothings gonna change that.

Two phrases: 1. CP9 arc 2. War of the best arc If you watched those two, you now this is better than Naruto, Bleach, Death Note (been trying to finish DN for two years, always get bored, same with Code Geass). It continues to get more intense and the world keeps opening up without feeling forced or artificial (like Bleach)

this is a really really great manga, one of the best. the anime however is the biggest pile of garbage ever created. the animation runs at something like 5 frames per second, it's like watching a flip-book.

Next to DBZ i gotta say this is the best anime out there. At first its a bit childish but thats just his character, later on it gets serious with intense fight scenes and hilarious random humor.

One Piece is by far the best anime I've ever watched, and I've watched quite a bit. The uniqueness of the plot and the absolute EPICness of some of the scenes is beyond great. I will say i hate how some arcs drag on and on and some of them are just stupid (thriller bark, exept for the end) but some scenes like the one where Luffy punches the celestial dragon are just so freaking EPIC, Its such a great show and I love it

This one is on third place on the top of my list, after Naruto and Bleach.

i just love one piece i've seen it like 4 times now just anoing they only release 1 episode a week. would be nice with a 100 more episodes to watch instead of wating for new episodes all the time

Enel saga, in my opinion, drags out too much, however humerous and creative anime. This anime is meant to keep you, comically entertained and enthralled by the fight scenes. Consdering the fact that we don't see any of the 4 emperors/ admirals/ 5 warlords fight- untll episode 400+ tells you that they dragged out the anime/ manga ALOT. So, if you plan on watching this anime, don't expect it to be like deathnote or code geass, just keepa clam mind, and watch a few episodes a day- it's meant for entertainment however, there are some seriously EPIC fights- supernatural fights are what this anime all about. But naruto tops it, as its story line is more serious- which some people don't like, but I do- since I can comprehend the situation- however younger ages 'children' can't- like, lets say below 13 years.

I agree with the last comment although my best is naruto among three of them.In this anime the events are really slow but characters are really funny that you never get bored.And believe me you really like the character's stories.

This is currently the highest view anime if Japan (well besides to classical ones, which are like the simpsons or tom and jerry- basically entertianing kids shows). This is not an overrated anime, it is an EPIC one. Episodes 1-100 are awesome, however 144-195 (ENEL SAGA) are a bit boring. If you want a LONG anime yet interesting at the same time, this is for you. Better than bleach, same as naruto/ DBZ.

Without a doubt one piece is in the top 3 ongoing series out there. Its impossible too describe how awesome this anime is. The anime gets serious when it needs too and its funny almost all the time its extremely fun to watch. I'm shocked its not on the top 3, I give one piece #1 in my anime list hands down.

Undoubtedly one of the best ongoing series out there. When I first started i was like "Who the hell wants to watch an anime about pirates who eat weird fruits and get weird powers?". And the animation looked cartoony and the main character was kinda lame seeming. But man as i kept going i couldn't stop. I still wait for Sunday ever week to catch the next episode. Ive dumped naruto and bleach as it kept goin downhill but this one It just keeps getting better. Must watch!

It is a good anime, but they drag everything in this anime.

It's hilarious how it takes Luffy 8-9 episodes to fun across a field the size of around 2 football fields, accompanied with the appropriate amount of screaming and drama. The Marineford Arc is pretty boring but this should have made top 10 anyways on the account of it being hilarious and serious at the same time. Can't wait till the timeskip is animated.

This should be number one hands down! Who the heck is spamming negative points LOL. This anime is the ONLY anime I've seen that has gone SO long without any real degradation of quality. Naruto is good but has a lot of "lame" fillers. The One Piece fillers are more fun to watch when they do occur.
