The Smiths Report Abuse
Whoever would've thought that someone so unhappy could make so many great upbeat pop songs. Sadly Morrissey and Johnny Marr couldn't work together, but when they did what they created was truly magic. "Still Ill," "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out," "Shoplifters Of The World Unite," "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now," "Girlfriend in a Coma" ... even if you don't like their music, you have to give it to them that they created some great song titles.

REM Report Abuse
REM seemed to instantly go straight to the top of college radio stations, only to then go straight to the top of the charts, with Warner Bros spending millions of dollars to put out their records. While they fell from grace in the mid 90s, they could do no wrong in the 80s.

Depeche Mode Report Abuse
This band were a powerhouse of hits in the 80s. Their music was hugely popular on the radio and on MTV, while still not sounding commercial or mainstream. They were able to successfully balance their darker tones with catchy 80s pop. Songs like Personal Jesus, Enjoy the Silence, A Question of Lust, etc are still just as good today as they were back then.

Band from Australia who were a new sensation back then according to one of their hits. Also, 'Need You Tonight', that was sampled well into the 21st century.

Our House, Driving In My Car and 'It Must Be Love' ae three of their many hits. And I believe they are working on a new project so a new album is on the way.

Siouxsie And The Banshees Report Abuse
Siouxsie really gave Robert Smith a run for his money in the amazing 80s hair department. And the band had some really great hits as well.

Madonna Report Abuse
The material girl really changed the face of music, as well as hugely influencing pop culture. Every girl in the 80s was dressed like Madonna with lace gloves and a fake mole.

This short lived act, late 1980s. One of the songs 'I Don't Want To Be A Hero' reminiscent of a disco song 'I Can Make You Feel Good'.
