1962 New York Mets - Record 40-120 Report Abuse
Definitely the worst team of baseball's Modern Era, The Mets finished 60 games out of first and were a national laughingstock for the bumbling, mistake filled ways in which they lost games.

2003 Detroit Tigers - Record: 43-119 Report Abuse
his team challenged the 62 Mets mark of futility, coming just one loss shy of their record setting 120. This is pretty astounding when one realizes that the 1962 Mets were an expansion team with little major league level talent and the competitive disparity was much much greater 41 years ago.

1973 San Diego Padres - Record 60-102 Report Abuse
The Padres were bad for so long this team has flown under the radar for all time worst. There 102 losses were by far the most for the year (no other team broke 100) and they were all but eliminated from the playoffs by June.

1938 Philadelphia Phillies - Record 45-105 Report Abuse
The Depression years weren't good for the Phillies, who averaged 94 losses for the entire decade. This was the worst of those teams, losing over 100 games without a single recognizable name on the roster.

1916 Philadelphia Athletics - Record: 36-117 Report Abuse
The 1916 team was last in hitting, pitching and the eight-team American League standings. Owner/Manager Connie Mack had sold off all of the team's good players due to financial troubles.

2009 New York Mets Report Abuse
Injury plagued team with defensive liabilities that rival the 1969 team. Luis Castillo is the poster boy for this team . . . the dropped popup that lost a game to the Yankees, and spraining his ankle walking down the dugout steps.
