Black Lotus Report Abuse
It's the priciest card out there for a reason. Early in the game, it wasn't clear just how useful the Black Lotus was, but eventually it became clear the advantage this card leveraged on your behalf. With the right opening hand, a Black Lotus could easily mean a one-turn kill.

Ancestral Recall Report Abuse
This is an evil card. Giving you the choice to draw three cards or force your opponent to discard three, at one mana to cast, with the speed of an instant, Ancestral Recall is the king of one-shot card advantage.

Time Walk Report Abuse
For a measly two mana, the original Time Walk gave you the benefit of an extra turn without tapping you out or requiring some other cost or restriction. You get an extra draw, an extra attack, and a mostly-free mana pool. This is a cruel, cruel card.

The Moxes Report Abuse
Black Lotus's color-specific baby brothers add speed and versatility to any deck. Aside from the Lotus itself, these five artifacts are Magic's most long sought-after cards.

Tolarian Academy Report Abuse

Comments:
Incredible. Even before the evolution of playable zero-cast artifacts, which effectively turn this into a big turn one Blue Lotus, Academy took over quickly and was banned in short order.

Force of Will Report Abuse
12 points - added 14 years ago by JDBLists - 1 comment
Comments:
As Alliances rolled out, just when you thought the play-testing process actually existed and functioned reasonably well, a card like this gets by the group. Force of Will completely changed anti-permission strategies reliant on spells using available mana and, as an uncommon card, almost single-handedly (see Arcane Denial) started a run on old Alliances cards and packs.

Yawgmoth's Will Report Abuse
Yawgmoth's Will gives you until the end of the turn to play anything from your graveyard as if it were in your hand. While playing the card at its most effective might not always be possible, at the very least you get the versatility of replaying any dead creature, recasting any spell.
