Its a very good rpg with a very good story and Baldurs Gate style gameplay crossed with Arcanum.

It's a great game on the gamecube
it should keep you busy for quite a while as it took me 3 months to 4 months to finish the game
it's great and awsome a must play on the gamecube
Comments:
I agree that it'll take a month to finish, but that's only because the cut scenes were hours long, and unskippable.
Wow, I can't believe it ranked so low! This has got to be one of the best rpgs that I have ever played, rivaled with Chrono Trigger I thought. I mean all the Extras that you could do after finishing the game still keep me busy. i can honestly say that after all this time I still haven't seen everything Tales of symphonia has to offer to me. I'd reccomend it to all.
I completely agree. This game is awesome. Great storyline, great combat system, its just a great game. I recommend it to everyone. Its storyline is very in depth. This game will take you at least a month to finish and you enjoy every minute of it.

Loved this game, shame that the fourth couldn't hold up. The Dessert could be challenging if you didn't pay enough attention, but certainly not enough to make it a bad game.
Yeah this game was so great. I really like to play Breath of fire 3.
Awesome title, unfortunately, i couldnt find my way through to endless dessert to finish it.
206.
Ive been plying this game for 7 years and i still love it.
I still love it because of all the different things you can gain and collect and all the quests.
Comments:
What's good about it? It's a childish game that it was made for 3 year olds...
I've been playing for years but it gets boring because after 70+ the only way to level is by mobbing for 130 levels, the quests take too long and usaully have horrible rewards so i usaully make a new characther after lvl 70
207.
PSX, I loved this game, the story was epic, the characters were great.. great turn based game with nice classes etc.
Comments:
More Strategy RPG than RPG, but pretty fun regardless. I think of the old PSX Strat RPGs I liked FFTactics and Ogre Tactics more though. Vandal Hearts 2 was also pretty good, and more innovative with it's game-play and story structure.

I spent my late childhood on this game. I can't belive that nobody mentioned it!
Great gaming experience. Good graphics, large character customizatiom, wonderful world!
Comments:
Yes Quite Right, Greatest game, I played Both versions of this game
1. Evil Islands : Curse of the Lost Soul
2. Evil Islands : Lost in Astral
exactly the games great, liked the combat system and the gear tuning, was fun

Although I cannot say this is the best RPG game, since it's a tremendously old game of PS1, and my favorites being KOTOR and Legend of Dragoon, it still has a great story and unique battle sequences.
Comments:
this should way higher than this; this is one of the best turn based rpg; this should at least be in the top 30, im sure it would be if people actually played it.
hell yeah this game is awesome, really loved the feel of the story
Loved the battle system. Legend of Dragoon and Legend of Legaia's battle interface should be recycled.
212.
One of the last of classic dungeon crawler released [In english talking world].
Now I am at my 9th playtrough :) [Graphics is still good when you play it in windowed dosbox ]
213.
The whole series was fun and had great graphics for the day. Plus it's the only game I know that musicians were kick ass.
214.
well.... Eye of the beholder series is up there on the list , but Black Crypt was a better game ( better graphics, scarier atmosphere, great interface - and it was made by 3 guys only )
215.
The very first, open world rpg I remember. After the short "tutorial" in Twinlake the starting city, you are on your own. Character statistics and leveling is unique. Great atmosphere and many hours of addictive gameplay. I still have the map under my desks glass.

Wonderful wonderful classic. Spent months on this in High school. Very funny too, and excellent story and atmospherics, including music. Pity Star Control 3 didn't follow-up.
has a great soundtrack and it has cool hot seat multiplayer arcade fights
One of the best games ever. Easy to find freeware version under the tile The Ur Quan Masters.
217.
This game is amazing with a huge story line and it keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole way. Customization is amazing

Top commenter: Neither Baldur's Gate 1 nor 2 were released for PS2. You are thinking of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1 & 2, which are very different types of games made by entirely different studios than Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 (PC). The Dark Alliance games are also vastly inferior to BG for PC.
Love Champions of Norrath. Champions 2 was not as fun, and the new races they added were kind of useless.
noone is ever gonna read this, but still:
a friend of mine once played this with a friend, and they fought the very end boss. it was a hard battle and one of them was the priest... and since the battle was so hard he summoned the magic hammer....they both died, shortly before the hammer killed the boss. game crashed.
on another occasion another friend tested the 'do not remove memorycard' screen- after 40 hrs of play....not good.
still a very good game: if you have a friend, and you like videogames, this is one of the best coops!
A decent game, that I am currently playing through for the first time. Unfortunately it is unbelievably easy at the moment on the first difficulty setting. And it doesn't give the option to ramp up the difficulty until you complete it. Everything is an absolute breeze and kind of leaves you feeling like you are just going through the motions.
Having said that, I still think it deserves a + vote as it is lots of fun.
OK, guys. If you havent realized this yet, fans of Baldurs Gate 1 & 2 for PS 2 must own Champions of Norrath, and part 2, Champions: Retuen to Arms. They are basically identical in gameplay, with the graphics texture and slight menu difference being the only real difference. Baldurs Gate and Champions series also have Snowblind Studios and Wizards of the Coast, as well as Interplay as their common developers. Black Isle Studios, however, is Baldurs, not Champions. And Both are Dungeons and Dragons action RPG's. I have owned all four, and in spite of other games since and primarily playing PC games now, I still add a few more of the several thousand hours I played over the years with these four. In fact, my best friend is not a video game guy. But he comes occassionally to play Baldurs, Champions, and my favorite PC game, Titan quest Gold. This should be ranked much higher. Champions is still 17 bucks used, and Return to Arms has remained 30 bucks used for years now.

Making your own superhero or villain who trains under one of three iconic figures in the DC Universe. Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman lead a new age of heroes against a force of new villains led by Lex Luthor, The Joker, and Circe, all while keeping the Earth safe from a new common enemy: Brainiac. PvP is available, but you may also choose PvE (enemy players are purple and untargetable) with an option to switch between the two in real time. A cross-platform MMORPG for PC and PS3 by Sony Online Entertainment.

You shoot everything, gain weapons, level up and awesome plot line. AND to top it off (SPOILER) your a robot. What's better? It's free to download and if you don't like the graphics you can by it on the mac store for 10 dollars with better graphics.

It was such a great game for its day! I played this non-stop while I was in Junior High on an C-64.

HIDDEN TREASURE from Russia !!! Well at least for me until now. When I found out that a PC game made after Strugatsky brothers novel (Which is very popular in my country, and one of rare russian SF novels acclaimed in the west!) actualy exists, I had to get my hands on it!!. And boyoboyo, ruskies did a good job!!! Gameplay is similar to gothic series, graphics and music really nice, there are some problems with camera and unwieldy combat system but nothing really significant. What is really great about this game is unique world, atmosphere, attention to details and story. ( Really good story and dialogs capturing the spirit of the novel) It will be a great pleasure (as it was for me) for someone who knows the book by heart to immerse one self in the happenings of the aftermath of Rumata*s massacre. (Those who didnt read the book might feel little lost at the beggining.) This game is really something else and creators did justice to Strugatsky novel and RPG genre.
226.
although the appearance of this game was not noticed by the majority of gamers back in 1998, the game in itself is a legend. Innovative fighting system, beautiful graphics, music, all in all, it rightly deserves to be in top 100 RPG's of all times

This is not a rpg but magic wizard sword bow etc if you know what i mean.. great graphics and very funny story.

HOW I BECAME A LOTTERY WINNER
I have been playing lottery games secretly for years without cashing out hugely and I needed to cash out big no matter what it takes. I overheard my boss telling his friend about DR AMBER on the internet saying that he has been so helpful to him and his family with his powerful spells. So, I researched about DR AMBER online and I saw various reviews about his works and I made sure I hit him up on WhatsApp via +1 406 646 2222 and I told him I needed a lottery spell and he explained to me what it will take to get it done and I accepted his terms. He prepared the lottery spell for me and gave me some numbers and told me when to play the lottery of which I did and after 4 days, I was called and told that I was the lucky winner of $263,948.00 and today I no longer work as delivery man. I want to use this medium to say thank you DR AMBER for your help in my life. If you need his help, you can reach him too on email via: amberlottotemple@yahoo.com for he's like a God on Earth sent from above.

This game was published at 1994 (I was fourteen). With its play style, its story telling combined with its musics and its animations (cut scenes) it was a very good FRP of its time. The game's story was essentially strong because the story was originated about Drows and Drizzt and Drizzt's exile and so on. It was possible to play Drizzt and it was also possible to summon Drizzt's magical panther Guenhwyvar. Some of the strongest creatures like Eye of the beholder in the end of the game and also some of the most powerful spells one can use in AD&D 2: like blade barrier and so... This game was fantastic. In my opinion even most of the latest FRP/RPGs cannot compete with this game in terms of playability and its story telling. It made me so happy to cast a blade barrier on Eye of Beholder and you had to see that magical sphere turning around and also you had to see all the blades around the sphere are turning around their own axis as well. Ahhh "And the screams of a dying eye of the beholder inside the blade barrier spell...How satisfying feeling it was". Nowadays games have nicer graphics but I believe they lack the spirit of a novel story like Dark Elf Triology.

I dont quite know if i can call it an RPG, but it has some element of the Genre. It is a legendery game should be in the top 100! It was and still is widely overlooked, dont know why. Teamwork was key in this game, which was hard, but rewarding. Its a shame there was no sequel done or something in this direction. The characters were awesome, Captain, Engineer, Computer Technician and Cyborg. And the puzzles & enemies were great, mind boggling and did i say hard.
I thik it deserves credit!

This games is one of only a couple that explores being a pirate. The ship to ship fighting was unseen before this game.
234.
because at the time 'link to the past' was fun but this was way more FUN + you get your own dog to fight with Ya :D
235.
I believe this was the first RPG to use a massive world to explore.
The game play was unbelievable for the time.
I consumed more hours than I can count playing this and still replay it today.
236.
Best game for PvP, Good Skill System, Good Flexibility although some classes are almost bound to a certain weapon type. Pay for the expansions and you have a life time of gear to farm =] Good long term game play. Played this game for 5 years. =] Awesome twinking system.

Old skool C-64 early 80's. Nice rpg two floppys back then. You could build cars, find parts in the waste land, buy parts, do work for other people to fund your building of a bad@ss machine ,equip it with weapons. Also you could take your ride to the arena and take on a bunch of other cars win money and get parts off of cars you destroyed. Graphics are prehistoric, but this rpg was one of the very first. If you remade it today I think it could be awesome.

Classic hero MMORPG, lore runs deep and avoids being silly. The graphics are poor for present day but it's a blast all the same. Best thing about the game is also it's worst component, Leveling. If you want to level it takes forever and is the same content over and over... most experience comes from simply killing enemies over and over. Though, in the same light it forces teaming to occur, with a strong community of players it has it's not hard to form teams.
Comments:
Okay, now I have to post on this one: leveling is NOT the same content over and over. The real problem is that if you don't solo or run your own teams, then 90% of teams do repeatable content instead of the plot-lines due to the ease of it. If you want the real content, go do missions for the hordes of different contacts in this game. Believe me, they have some great stories to tell, and after playing on and off for about 6 years, I've still got alot of content I haven't seen yet. Just a quick tip though: if you love teaming up, go with the Virtue Server, and consider lookup up one of the Virtue TFs channels. Not only is it one of the most populated servers, but it's the only server that has a channel especially for task forces (which are team-oriented story lines with higher difficulty but higher rewards at the same time). I'd also recommend getting the new Going Rogue content, as it adds in alot of new, higher quality content. In any case though, this game deserves to be alot higher up than a mere 148th place that is at the time of writing. To this day it is still my favorite MMO.
242.
Classic game where you take the role of Aquaman, esteemed hero of the deep.

Best mmorpg in area of PvP gaming. One of the very few games where is almost everything about skill and It quite doesn't about how many hours you can spend online.
Comments:
One of the greatest MMORPGs, in terms of PvP and Guild Wars, every class having creative skills. Not only the same "damage spell", "stat increase spell" and "cure spell" of most RPGs
an old mate of mine was a GM in this game, went to his place and watched him create fun events for the community and overall it's not a bad game and nor is the level grind hard but yeah thinking of what you put into the character matters a lot
RO is the best online RPG game i ever played. PVP very good and funny too :).Skills and stats system really impressive, the thing i love most that : Every jobs in game has its role, no one is undefeatabe :D.
I have to admit, I played a lot of mmorpg's back in the day, and haven't heard about this one... That pretty much speaks for itself...
PvP i RO is excelent.... only if you are a noob you cannot understand it... RO is eeeeally a old game but still have it place under the Sun.
best mmorpg in are pvp gaming in Ragnarok? are you kidding?
Pvp in Ro suck as hell.
248.
Another not so well known series that definitely deserves to be not only on this list, but probably right near the top (at least for games of it's day).
249.
This should give your age away if you remember it!
A great game but was spoiled near the end by extremely powerful monsters appearing too often. I guess the encounters were linked to your level/prowess.
Comments:
Never got into this, but I LOVED Alternate Reality: The Dungeon. Played it over and over. Felt guilty from being too evil and recanted, got some freaking weight stuck to me, hunted by this thing that would suck up your stuff...great memories. One of the only games ever where I enjoyed mapping. In my own personal top 20.

played it, grinded till lvl 87 in barely 1 day... now i cant say im that much addicted or new all the good tricks or something, but this was rediciously easy.... AND BORING

Amazing RPG, can be played again and again. Oblivion. Just the name sounds exciting. Graphics are alright, however, game play is phenomenal. Huge RPG. When main quest is done, there are still many more. Way better then animated games like Fable 2. It is quite frankly, "The best."
254.
One of the least known online RPG's. Uniques turn based combat, tactical combat also. Large variety of mercs to recruit in your team of 9 (main+8 mercs). Easy to understand and very addictive. just try it, it's free
255.
Comments:
Challenging Combat System. Mabinogi features a traditional melee combat approach (utilizing various swords, maces and shields), a ranged combat approach (using various weapons such as crossbows and long-bows) and a magic approach - all of which have their own strengths and advantages at different points of the game. Mabinogi's freeform skill system allows players to hybridize between any three of the combat trees at any time - the only limitation lying with the player's overall proficiency at operating the game controls and mechanics. The Game also has an interesting/challenging storyline divided into generations
256.
it was a great RPG roaming game, not much story but amazing for an oline free game
257.
I do not think you should play free realms unless your looking for a daily game like my sims.It takes a while to download and is pretty childish.
Comments:
Too bad they don't let you play beyond level 5 unless you stick to 2 ugly classes you pay for it. Shame on them.
A better idea: let anyone play one class of their choice for free, all the levels. Want more than one class? Then you can pay for it. A more just and, I think, time rewarding concept.
258.
259.
This has one of the best pvp systems i've ever seen and can handle 1000v1000 pvp realm vs realm
260.
Well it is a MMORPG and the graphics aren't all that, but it is a generally fun game to play as you do numerous quests and also do turn based card battles with unusual enemies, which adds to the fun also!
261.
262.
The game isn't finnest yet but the preview is out!
it is a large rpg with lots of quests
