The Doors Report Abuse
While many people question Oliver's Stone's version of the Doors' history, Val Kilmer did an amazing job of becoming Jim Morrison.

Almost Famous Report Abuse
In Cameron Crowe's quasi-biopic about himself, Crowe is able to portray the complex emotions of the rock n' roll fan, both in his depiction of groupie Penny Lane as well as the star-struck version of his teen self. Amazing musical performances by the actors, and one of the greatest lines in a rock n' roll film ... "Rock stars have kidnapped my son!" - I'm going to risk getting raked over the coals for not putting this one any higher. I really do love Cameron Crowe's quasi-biopic on himself, and the emotion of the rock fan has probably never been better exemplified than by Kate Hudson as Miss Penny Lane. However, I have found this film doesn't stand up to re-watchability as well as I might have expected. It is far too mainstream a film to allow that stale quality to go completely unforgiven. So here it is at number 10 and we're moving on.

King Creole was important, too, but Jailhouse Rock was at the zenith of Presley Mania.

Agreed!! Elvis Presley's place in Americana cannot be over-rated!! Simply changed everything.

This is Spinal Tap Report Abuse
This movie is one of the best comedies while also being one of the best rock films ever. This mockumentary about a fictional heavy metal band doesn't fail to disappoint.

Don't Look Back Report Abuse
Famous rock documentary filmmaker D.A. Pennebaker gives this intimate look at Bob Dylan using footage from his 1965 British tour. Viewers get to watch Dylan as he makes his transition from folk hero to rock star. This film marks an important time in rock n' roll history, as well as being damned entertaining.

The Filth and the Fury Report Abuse
This is the second time Julien Temple tells the story of the Sex Pistols, the first time being in "The Great Rock and Roll Swindle." However, this time the story is told form the point of view of the surviving band members, as well as fans. There's a lot of new footage this time, much of it is pretty raw, especially the concert scenes, but it's all pretty fascinating.

Ok, so this isn't exactly a rock n' roll movie, but music plays such an essential part of the film I had to include it.
