Top 20 Playground Games

In this fun game, players divide into two teams and throw balls at each other. If you hit your enemy they are out. If someone catches the ball you throw, then you're out. Simple rules, but loads of fun.

This is a great game because there is absolutely no equipment necessary. All you need is three or more people and some room to run around. One person is "it" and the other players must run from them. If you are tagged by the person who is "it" you must stand frozen in place until another players tags you back into play.

Jump ropes are extremely inexpensive and can provide for hours of fun. There are loads of jump rope games that children can play, and jumping rope is excellent exercise.

Again, all you need for this game is players. Probably at least eight or people. Players stand in two lines holding hands. Each team takes turns calling one person from the opposing line "over." If the called player can run through the line, they return to their team. If they cannot break through the human chain, they are absorbed into the opposing team.

All you need for this game is a piece of chalk and some little rocks to throw. Or, if you're lucky, your local playground might have a hopscotch game painted on the blacktop. Players hop through the squares, taking turns as they make their way through the numbers.
