Water

You can't beat it. Water is THE best alternative to soda. It's relatively inexpensive and you can find it just about anywhere you care to look. It's easily portable and it doesn't go sour or hard, and if it DOES spill, you don't even have to bother wiping it up, just let it air dry, and there will be no stains.
