Sesame Street is number one because it makes learning so much fun - it is really a critical show for children - to learn with "their friends" in "their neighborhood" in so many different ways is so valuable.
4.
Emotionally evocative and poignant, realistic and nuanced (not to mention beloved) characters, an engaging story, beautiful and unique visuals, an original premise, humor that resonated with kids and adults. This show has everything and I will fight tooth and nail against anyone who doesn't think it is one of the greatest children's shows ever.

^Agreed on everything. Also, it was a very realistic portrayal of the emotions of young teenagers facing adversity. But above all, what made me and my entire family love it so much was that it made us care. It's difficult for an animated children's show to be so compelling, but Avatar was in every episode. As a viewer, I always greatly anticipated the next episode not just because I enjoyed it, but because I cared about the fates and trials of the characters. Easily my favorite kids' show of all time.

With so many characters and storylines, this was the variety show extraordinaire for children. There has never been anything like it before or since, and I doubt there will be.
9.
Sheer genius, the only reason this isn't in the top five is because it was almost too good for adults to be that good for kids. The characters on Animaniacs are totally unbeatable.

HEY YOU GUYS!!!!!!! It's time to learn about science and math and things you don;t usually like to learn about as a kid, but we're going to make it fun! And they did - I waited for the Electic Company to come on like I wait for Survivor now and hated it when it was over.

I watched the 1990s version of the sci-fi drama. It has been the subject of a recent revival I believe.

This show just always made me feel happy - even now, thinking about it, it was a happy, fun, comfortable show where I went and played with all my friends.
26.
1990s programme set in a posh boarding school in Nottinghamshire focusing mainly on two school boys.
Comments:
Another of those great children's programmes made by Central Television that had a workshop called the 'Central Junior Television Workshop'. Note that the first series was made in 1993 and had its UK showing the following year, 1994. The second and final series was made in 1994 and got its British showing in early 1995.

36.
Notable stars in this award winning drama series between 1989 and 1993 include future soap star Lucy Benjamin, Dexter Fletcher and Julia Sawalha. Central Television partly made the programme.

This is a children's spy series. I am currently watching the latest series and no doubt that 'Lady J' or Felicity is my favourite character. She is the equivalent of say Professor Green or Dizzee Rascal. She did the rap at the end of one recent episode.
39.
I will always remember the end theme tune growing up in the late 1980s/early 1990s of this much loved show made of course by Thames Television.
40.
This was an animated series featuring a talking toucan I think, most of them in two ten minute episodes in one.
41.
42.
1990s animated programme about a soccer team (football as we know it in the United Kingdom and other countries). Scottish Television I think partly made the programme.
43.
1990's children's game show made partly by Anglia Television. It is best remembered for its computerised game show setting as one of the team with a helmet on encounters challenges with the help of his/her team directionwise and clues.
44.
Little known 1990s drama series made by Richmond Films & Central Television, the same two companies that made Press Gang.
45.
Loved the original cast, a group of high school students transforming themselves into superheroes. The silly antics of Bulk & Skull in one episode when they themselves want to be like the 'Rangers' is possibly one highlight.
