Transformers

Nothing can compete with the transformers. These transforming toys were immensely popular in the 80s, and spawned several different cartoon series. More recently transformers have had a comeback with not one but two summer blockbuster films. I guess there really is "more than meets the eye."

GI Joe

This is probably one of the most popular toys to cartoons ever made. First an action figure, then a successful 1980s cartoon. And of course, only a few years ago there was the return of GI Joe with a summer blockbuster film.

My Little Pony

Back in the 80s these little pony dolls had a cartoon series as well as a movie. And now, after a decade or so, new more glamorous ponies (if you can call a pony glamorous) are taking the toy market by storm.

He-Man

It's hard to even comprehend the popularity of He-Man. These odd-looking action figures with a slight resemblance to Norse gods had movies and a television series. Then the spin-off show She-Ra was introduced, and at some point there was even a live action film. Way to milk it for all it's worth.

Carebears

Based on everyone's favorite plush bears, the Carebears cartoons have seen a huge amount of success. With a cartoon series as well as movies, the Carebears have had a recent come-back with new toys and cartoons being produced.

Pokemon

As toys to movies goes, Pokemon cards actually made a fairly decent cartoon. And some of the video games aren't bad either.

Strawberry Shortcake

These fruit-scented figures made it big as an 80s cartoon, only to have a recent resurgence. Of course the more modern Strawberry Shortcakes characters are a bit more sassy than their predecessors, but I guess that's just how it is. However, I still think the Peculiar Purple Pie Man is up there with best animated baking villain.
