Originally a movie, the mass appeal of Stargate was evident from the start. It used a unique premise showing travel to other worlds without the aid of a space craft. Stargate SG-1 was first aired on cable on the Showtime network before it was taken over by the Sci-fi channel. SG-1 has since left the airwaves but spawned two other series, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe as well as a cartoon series and 3 movies based on SG-1.

During a time in our history when mankind was making its first small advances in space, Star Trek showed us a future where not only space travel was the norm but so was peace and racial equality. Even putting g the science aside Star trek had an important message. Although it aired for just three seasons the fan support was such that Star Trek spawned an animated series, 11 movies, four new television series, and countless books and fan films. For over 40 years Star Trek has been a part of not just television history but our very culture.

What happens when you take a campy late 70's sci-fi show and turn it into a gritty dark space drama about the end (or is it beginning) of humanity? You get one of the most criticaly acclaimed dramas to ever be telivised. BSG redux was loud, violent, and it's charecters were far from perfect. The heros in this show are flawed and battered. A mini-series, made for tv-movies and an upcoming prequel all tell the tale of the 12 colonies.

Great story, expansive world, well developed characters, can't believe they killed it after only 4 seasons. Oh wait, it was a great show ..... QED!
