Okay, Archie Bunker was a crotchety old miser, but coupled with his wife Edith, he somehow made the tasteless funny. Very funny. ...Those were the days….

the first time i watched it, it was ok. The second time i watched it, I couldn't stand it. Not that great. 2 1/2 men, married with children, spin city are the great shows. Others are just kind of funny.
Seinfeld was a great show, but I don't see it as number one in any survey.
Come on, Seinfeld in 12th place, you gotta be kidding! It has to be #1
how could you not even consider to put this at 1, it being out of the top 3 shows that this website is terrible

The only sitcom I never get tired of watching, literally. Having no cable but the entire series on DVD, I watch it over and over – and still, by the way, notice new things. For those who share the age group of Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe and Joey – we tuned in each week and watched, wholly relating to at least one of them. In fact, Friends is the only show with characters that I not only identify with but am unsure what came first in terms of ticks and nuances – in other words, did I pick up personality ticks from them – or were these writers and ensemble just simply some of the best? Well…. Who knows, but after ten years, when the show ended, it wasn't because ratings had dropped or viewer interest had waned. Time always tells.

This should be highly ranked because it's simply a great show. It makes you laugh. It makes you cry. It makes you think. And Will Smith is one of the greatest acters so the fact that every one of the characters keep up with his talent is beyond me.

It is one of the best sitcoms I have ever seen...
It truly cherishes values and it put together very nicely..!!
I think It should get recognized...

If anything, this show stands out for introducing a group of four that are as unique a pack as they are individually. The nerdy, genius and slightly psychotic Sheldon portrayed by the excellent Jim Parsons is the highlight of the show. Followed by the 'disgusting' Wolowitz and 'ethnic funniness' Koothrapali portrayed by Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar respectively. This show is going to be a classic soon.....

Bill Cosby can make you laugh just standing on a stage. Give him a scenario with kids and the first version of Michelle Obama, portrayed by the lovely and gifted, Felicia Rashad, Cosby Show was one of – no, was the first show with the multi talented Claire, as mom, wife and successful attorney. Claire was the typical woman of the 90’s but back in the 80’s.

All time sit-coms? I Love Lucy is a slam dunk #1. Many other greats from that era and later. If this is just more modern sit-coms, I would take Friends and Malcolm, among others, ahead of Seinfeld, as great as it was.

THE sitcom against which all modern sitcoms are measured. The ongoing, hilarious story of a television comedy writer at home and on the job. Truly one great show with some of the best sight gags and one-liners ever filmed. Incredibly effective cast, too.59

Come on, what other cartoon has captivated audiences for more than ten years. They’re like Leno, The Daily Show, the Brady Bunch and… this could go on for a while. The point is, the show accomplishes so much that it’s hard to pin it into one kind of box.

MASH came at a time when the world, the U.S. especially needed a reason to laugh. While not based on The Vietnam Conflict, it echoed a lot of the sentiment and gave Americans witty yet respectful reasons to laugh in the 70’s while thousands were dying in South Asia. In fact, it was one of the first sitcoms based on intelligent humor and embracing humanity, rather than mocking it. Masterfully acted, it will live on, never to be repeated again.

It`s probably the most funniest and the most original sitcom of all American history, and maybe the people didn't like it because they make fun out of America and it`s system using the main plot of the series and that is because they are aliens and they experience everything for the first time. John Lithgow was always in drama roles and I never could see him as a comedian, but in this role he is a shepherd whom other actors just follow and play along.
