Comments:
actually it does have some part to dedicating this song to the military because if you watch her official video there is a housewife texting her husband wondering if he's okay.
107.
It's an incredibly sad song about a guy who decides to "take a flag to a pawn shop" and learns a bit about patriotism.

The Story about a Young Marine who was served by the Ghost of a Marine is a good example for the wish to help others even beyond death. The Path of real heroes... it is a song against war and for positive wishes and thoughts.

Comments:
1973, Belfast. A scary place to visit. This song was banned by the British Government (arseholes). Northern Ireland was the only place you could buy it (go figure).
I have played in the same clubs when he was touring, he never missed playing The
Soldier.
By the way, I served two and a half years in Belfast and Londonderry. I don't hate the Irish, I only have an argument with the blokes who tried to kill me.

This song is about a soldier who was one of the only seven that returned from WW 2. The old soldier wore his old army hat for his friends who gave everything. When he went to the WW 2 monument in D.C. a young boy came up to him and told the old man the his dad went to war but did not come back and when the boy asked to where the hat, the old man told him to keep it because his dad had given ever thing the least he could do is give his old army hat.
The song is a tribute to the bravest of all of the american forces during the second world war, this song is for the freedom that we now enjoy.
135.
Though it's about the Civil War, still resonates with me about the soldier's experience in any war.

As a Soldier serving in Sadr City (2004-2005), I seen alot of combat and its aftermath, especially on April 4th, 2004 in Sadr City. A book (The Long Road Home-Martha Raddatz) was written about this particular incident. When I came home for my 30 day "midtour" leave, I was at a local establishment that had the news on the TV. They mentioned 3 more soldiers died in Iraq that day, and as I looked around, I didn't notice 1 other person in that place, who seemed to care what was just said on the News, except for me. When I returned back to my unit in Iraq, I began writing another poem that I would eventually turn into a song, and I named that poem "Do you Care If A Soldier Dies". Most of the photo's in the music video I either took myself, or i'm in. Every instrument played, and vocals, I recorded in my newly made home studio, personally. So every note that's played, word that's sang, and photo shown came from the heart of a Man who is now a proud Disabled Veteran.

For our king and our country and the promise of glory
We came from Kingston and Brighton to fight on the front line
Just lads from the farms and boys from the cities
Not meant to be soldiers we lay in the trenches
We'd face the fighting with a smile - or so we said
If only we had known what danger lay ahead
The sky turned to grey as we went into battle
On the fields of Europe young men were fallin'
I'll be back for you someday - it won't be long
If I can just hold on 'til this bloody war is over
The guns will be silent on Remembrance Day
There'll be no more fighting on Remembrance Day
By October of 18 Cambrai had fallen
Soon the war would be over and we'd be returnin'
Don't forget me while I'm gone far away
Well it won't be long 'till I'm back there in your arms again
One day soon - I don't know when
You know we'll all be free and the bells of peace will ring again
The time will come for you and me
We'll be goin' home when this bloody war is ended
The guns will be silent on Remembrance Day
We'll all say a prayer on Remembrance Day
On Remembrance Day - say a little prayer
On Remembrance Day
Well the guns will be silent
oh There'll be no more fighting
we'll lay down our weapons
On Remembrance Day

After 21yrs in the military, this tune brings it all back to me. Respect and admiration for my fellow comrades who never came home. Tears flood every time i hear it.
146.
This song shows what our soldiers have done. They all have to do wrong, but for the right reason.
147.
149.
Sounds like a typical happy Monkees song, but back in 1966 when this was released, Clarksville was the home of the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell. For many soldiers this was the last stop before going to Vietnam. When you know this the lyrics suddenly make sense and become unexpectedly poignant "and I don't know if I'm ever coming back".

Ain't it fun for you.

To their deaths for you.

It is a song about how the reason people are free, is because of the soldier on the frontlines protecting that freedom. Also, it shows that soldiers are not what people think, it shows that they are still human but will go to extremes to protect those whom they love.

WW2 song off of The Wall, I'm sure just about everyone has heard The Wall before so it shouldn't need much explanation. If you haven't heard The Wall before where have you been? Little hint when the bombs fall the sky is no longer blue. (Added by MotorheadOzzy)

John Brown is a great war song by Bob Dylan, I like the version on the MTV Unplugged disc. It's about a boy being sent off to war only to come back unrecognizable. (Added by MotorheadOzzy)

Great war song performed by Richie Havens at Woodstock! Richie was the very first performer to take the stage at the greatest music festival of all time. At the time he was virtually unknown and then his popularity exploded, this song is one of his best known masterpieces. If you've never had the pleasure of listening to it, do yourself a favor. (Added by MotorheadOzzy)

VIDEO WILL MAKE YOU CRY!!! It's about a husband who sees his wife off, whom he loves, to war only for him to be given a flag and letter in her remembrance. During the song he remembers the good times they shared, her being with him and their child and how he misses her being on her side of the bed.
174.

The only version I have heard of this one is on my MTV Unplugged disc, it is the last song and has tons of feeling. I don't think you could find a better version of it with the heart and soul Dylan puts in live, it's an amazing tune! (Added by MotorheadOzzy)
