The best horse for kids so far.......... They are calm, gentle, and even they are fast they will NEVER hurt anybody altough if it's toddler! So if you have a kid and it wants a horse then buy a quarter horse gelding for it, because mare is not even 90% save only 80% save(no horse is 100% save, geldings are 90% save. And NEVER buy a stallion!Stallions are 0% save!Even if it's a quarter horse! Also you need to get sure the horse has a good temperament!NEVER buy a horse before you know it's temperament! So good luck with selecting a right horse for your kid!

American paint horses are beautiful in and out. Most are sweet, loving, willing and trust wrothy. But keep in mind pick one good for your type of living some are peppy like their thoroughbred atcestors but most of them have more quaterhorse in them which are peppy, calm and some times lazy! I love them so much

For the comment below I meant to say they are a very good smooth horse for walking, trotting, cantering, and galloping.

Appaloosas are a very calm horse for children and they are very beautiful and kind. This breed of horse is also a very poor smooth horse when they are walking, trotting, cantering, and galloping. So I would recommend this horse for all ages.

Arabian Report Abuse
This is one of the world's most famous breeds! Also one of the most elegant breeds of horse. The only horse breed which has some, though not all, have 5 lumbar vertebrae instead of the usual 6, and 17 rather than 18 pairs of ribs. Really beautiful horse.

My Arab is the sweetest thing! He loved children and is also "bomb proof"(thanks for teaching me that term!) The only person he's ever bit was the man I bought him from. He was abusive and would occasionally starve his horses so it's no surprise Kendrick(the arab) was jumpy when I first bought him. What I learned is that horses have their own personality, but they're also kind of like babies - a blank slate, If you're good to them, they tend to be more good-natured, if you're not, then... Well, then go to hell.

I have one and is the only and best horse I have ever had, sweet, gentile, and great with kids...

Each horse is an individual. My polish Arab was "bomb proof" and I often taught young children with him. I think the scariest thing he ever did was a full body shake while a friend's 4 year old was aboard. What 4 year old would be expecting that. My friend bred Arabs and all (even her stallion) were great animals. Many were not related either. So horses are individuals and human skills and abilities make things awesome or horrible. Dogs are the same too yet folks love to make lists that are complete fantasy because its the work you put into it and the dedication to form the relationship you want that's key.

Arabians have quite the wild side!!!It wouldn't be very smart to throw your kids on one of those horses.(unless an older horse)

Gypsy Vanners are extremely intelligent and patient, and are a smaller horse breed. I highly recommend them for children. Beautiful horses.

Shetland Pony Report Abuse
A smaller framed pony, low to the ground.
14 points - added 15 years ago by BrendaKaye - 2 comments
Comments:
I would be interested to hear any positive shetland pony stories that don't end with the child getting hurt. We grew up around all sorts of horses and ponies and I would never recommend a shetland pony to a family with children. They will throw you off, run off with you riding them, and some other not so great qualities that I wouldn't recommend for children. I would say it was the trainer, but I've seen it with many different trainers and discipline strategies. Welsh ponies, yes. Shetland Ponies, no.

Quarter Pony Report Abuse
Quarter Ponies are great with kids, not the best but great. They have the calm Quarter Horse in them, but they have wider backs and are smaller, usually between 13 and 14 hands. These ponies can be used for speed, pleasure (English or western), jumping, a great pet, trail horse, or even a schooling pony. Quarter Ponies are usually calm because of the Quarter horse in it, but can have a spirited side too, it depends if it is a pure bred, from two Quarter ponies, or a mixed breed quarter pony. For example I have a Quarter Horse Chincoteague pony mix. She is a mare so that also contributes to her high spirit. Quarter ponies are mostly calm and small, and are great with kids.

I have a clydsedale named Shadow(He's pure black) and he's the biggest and gentlest horse i've ever met! I'm 12 years old and he is perfect with me and little kids. He'll only ever flick his tail at flies and once my 4 year old cousin Andrew was riding him, and he was bit by a horsefly and he tensed up for a moment like he was going to bolt but then he remember little Andrew was on him and he suck it up and waited for Andrew to get off.
