Won't debate the merit of Reagan's presidency, though even Democrats now recognize him as one of the greats. But I can't let your ignorant comment about the economy stand. Go back and look at the economy when Reagan took office, the inflation, the unemployment, the gas prices, and Reagan's policies fixed all that. For you to say he "destroyed" the economy betrays your stupidity.

Sending America into extreme debt, giving rich companies and businesses tax cuts they don't need, and destroying out economy (until Clinton fixed it) is not a great moment. Unless you're talking about the Iranian Hostage Crisis hostages being freed on this day, in that case, yes, it's a great day.

This should be near the top. This remarkable achievement, that many women fought and gave their lives for, even suffering incarceration and torture for the right to vote is worthy of beating out Michael Phelp's Olympic success or any particular president's inauguration.

It only brought "freedom" to slaves in the rebellion confederation and made the Civil War a moral war rather than one over state powers. It didn't really do anything and it did nto outlaw slavery.

What's an "Innaugriation"? And who is "Barrak" Obama?
Added 12 years ago by guest, -31 points Vote + to improve this comment's ranking Vote - to decrease this comment's ranking
President Obama should be referred to as PRESIDENT Obama and not Mr. Obama. President's Bush, Clinton, Reagan...etc.. were never referred to as Mr. Bush, etc. Please give our President respect. Further more his name is spelled BARACK Obama not Barrak. Thank you.

The inauguration of mr. Obama itself was as remarkable as every other presidential inauguration. But the fact is that the election was merely symbolic of the racially tolerant America. Racism was by no means at more of an end in 2008 than in the previous election. So the idea here is to realize that this is symbolic because mr. Obama is the first black president and not for any other reason that may be leading to his trail of blind followers.
