Best things to Have in a First Aid Kit

When most people think "first aid" they think band aids. They think that if there is a serious emeergency that they will just call 911, or head for the hospital. But there are some things that are more important than others to have in your first aid kit. Some of them could actually save your life.

Butterfly bandages are essential to all first aid kits. A butterfly bandage can be used to hold together the edges of minor cuts, and can even be used on major wounds as a temporary measure until emergency help can be found.

If one is stung or bitten by something poisonous an empinephrine injection defice can save your life. By far the most important thing to have in your first aid kit.

There are some things you may be allergic to and may not even know it. While your allergy may not be life-threatening, it can sometimes be severe enough to cause extreme pain and discomfort, swelling, itching etc. Benadryl Tablets can reduce the effect of allergens within a few minutes.

Being stung or bitten by something poisonous is one thing, swallowing something poisonous is another. Ipicac syrup if taken immediately after swallowing a poison or discovery of an overdose can induce vomiting and keep the poison by being absorbed into the body.

While it is not advisable to sew up your own or another's wound, there are times and places where it is absolutely essential to survival. All First Aid kits should have a suture kit included, just in case.

Hydrogen Peroxide or rubbing alcohol can be extremely useful in the case of an emergency...simply put it on a cotton swab and rub it along your wounds...A quick and easy way to avoid infection and then you can dress them like normal
