Sony PlayStation
The original PlayStation was a revelation for gamers, launching the genre into the next generation of graphical capability with the first workable disc based gaming system. No other console has matched the sheer number of games available for this system, they pretty much had the market cornered at a time before Microsoft entered the game, when Sega had failed and Nintendo was struggling. At its peak it dominated the market and every real gamer had to have one.

Slow loading times, needed a memory card to save... not my idea of a good time. Cartridges were awesome, and now hard drives are pretty good, but memory cards just plain suck. PS2 wasn't as bad.

Nintendo Entertainment System
The granddaddy of them all, Nintendo brought video games out of the arcade and into the home, forever changing video games and generations of young people who love them. Maybe other companies have done it better, but the cultural impact of the NES and games like Super Mario bros and The Legend of Zelda will never be matched again.

Sega Dreamcast
Sega went under as a game console company largely due to poor marketing and bad business decisions. Its a shame, because they made great consoles. The Dreamcast had revolutionary graphics for its time, early online service, and a host of classic games that still hold up today. Even years after the console failed there still remains a devoted and loyal cult following for this console. Its the most underrated system of all time.

But, remember that the only great Star wars title hosted by the Dreamcast was Episode 1: Racer. Otherwise, Demolition absolutely sucked balls!

Very underrated system. Many great games and a nifty setup. There were just too many design flaws for it to succeed. Nice attempt Sega, we'll miss you :(

Xbox 360
The jury is still out on the battle between the 360 and Playstation 3, but for my money this is the greatest console operating right now. Although the Microsoft console has been plagued by technical issues and poor hardware, the 360 has stunning graphics, a fantastic Live service for multiplayer and downloads, and the widest selection of great games ever seen on any console.

I know it's subjective but how can this be at 23 ?
Ever since 2003 XBOX LIVE demolishes other consoles . i have owned most of them and must have been lucky ,never had red rings of death .

Sega Genesis
Sega is no longer in the console business, but their Genesis console remains my favorite. This was the best console at the time for sports games, had groundbreaking console games such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Mortal Kombat and was one of the first systems with 36 bit graphics.

It was the first 16-bit gaming console on the market, and had some incredible games like the Sonic The Hedgehog and Streets of Rage series. Hockey and basketball from EA were great, too!

The first 3-D video game system, has a camera on it, portable, has Miis on it just like the Wii does, awesome.
