All great villains have that combination of repulsion and attraction that make you secretly admire them while still wishing you never run into them.

Hopkins portrayal of Hannibal the Cannibal was like a bombshell, both shocking and fascinating audiences. Lecter was suave, cultured and brilliant yet he was a sociopath capable of the most horrific crimes imaginable. His outward appearance and demeanor was unlike any other killer portrayed in the movies and for that reason he became a cultural icon.
