Darth Vader Report Abuse
His over the top black robotic costume and legendary voice have become international symbols for "The Bad Guy". Vader made such a great villain because he was violently dangerous and corrupt yet still mysterious and cool. All great villains have that combination of repulsion and attraction that make you secretly admire them while still wishing you never run into them.

Darth Vader is THE very synonym of 'Villain'.

Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) - The Silence Of The Lambs (1991) Report Abuse
Hopkins portrayal of Hannibal the Cannibal was like a bombshell, both shocking and fascinating audiences. Lecter was suave, cultured and brilliant yet he was a sociopath capable of the most horrific crimes imaginable. His outward appearance and demeanor was unlike any other killer portrayed in the movies and for that reason he became a cultural icon.

Cato (Alexander Ludwig) - The Hunger Games (2012) Report Abuse
A thug like tribute from District 2, Cato was the sadistic ringleader of the Career Tributes. He was the last to die because the "Star Crossed Lovers of District 12" decided not to kill eachother.

Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) - Psycho (1960) Report Abuse
An iconic character that is still the standard bearer for unnerving movie villains, Perkins portrayal of the psychotic, mother obsessed Norman Bates is one of the creepiest, most uncomfortable performances in cinema history. He might not be the most evil character on the list, but he was one of the darkest and still chills viewers to this day.

The Joker (Heath Ledger) - The Dark Knight (2008) Report Abuse
Although this may be a very recent performance and history has yet to determine how it will be remembered, Heath Ledger's Joker was unlike anything audiences had seen for superhero movies. The anarchic Joker blends the wild, anti-establishment attitude of the rebel with the dark, directionless nihilism of the violent schizophrenic. The result is a chilling villain who fascinates and terrifies.
