Maynard's tribute to his recently departed mother, who spent nearly 10,000 days of her life paralyzed in a wheelchair after a stroke.
Comments:
if there has ever been a reason to feel pure emotion keenan should be considered the new king of beatifull music especially with 10,000 days no greater pain reflects life then this song. my personality is owed to keenan especially too
Words cannot descibe... If this really is the future of TOOL then I say bring it on. Truly beautiful.
Seriously, one the most beautiful songs ever made. When Maynard says "you're going home" I always get chills. This song is a pure masterpiece. I love Vicarious and Stinkfistbut this is a personal favorite.
Well, I think this sound is the future of Tool. Pure Atmospheric Awesome.
I didn't love this song at first but it's grown on me A LOT. I've got no problem with it being 1st place.

Beat stiff competion in Third Eye (2nd place) and 10,000 Days (3rd place) to win the TOOL Madness competition. A worthy winner, in my opinion. Is it me or do TOOL have three songs there that are a cut above any created by this species?
The outro is awesome but I think the best part is where the lyrics go "I embrace my desire to feel the rhythm, to feel connected enough to step aside and weep like a widow, to feel inspired", etc. The drumming for that part is just... insane.
I listen to that song at night in the dark on vinyl. I learnt to play guitar at 27 for this song and its the first full song I ever played. Best song in the world. Curios to know why Vicarious is rated higher at this point.

Not just my favorite tool song, but my all time favorite song ever.

I love this song in every sense, it's probably one of my faves from Lateralus.
This is really really smart and awesome. The best tool song by far.

Great song about a bad trip Maynard had. The rifts and drums on this 10 minute masterpiece are insane as are the lyrics. This really belongs in the top 5.

My personal favorite from 10,000 Days. This song just kicks ass, every thing on this song is awesome, I love it and I can listen to it all day.
Anyone who thinks Tool are pro-drugs really ought to check this song out. If this song is pro-drugs then I'm Ace Ventura. You can get high without drugs, how many times do they need to say it? Saying that people should have the right to take drugs if that's what they want to do is not the same as being pro-drugs.
By the way, slight spelling mistake, the actual title is 'Rosetta Stoned'.

No it isn't a brilliant song by Maynard... it's a brilliant song by Tool. Maynard is one quarter of the band.
What is it you disagree with? I'm not sure what you mean. The lyrics are satirical in that they ridicule an aspect of the human condition, they seem to suggest that we are all addicted to watching things die, but can't admit it - which you seem to understand, which is why I'm confused. :)
I love this song but disagree with all the "satire" associated with it. I think it reflects humanity pretty darn well....Why can't we just admit it?

Meditate on Religion. Meditate on Violence and you'll understand the nuances in the song. My favorite
The best Tool song, in my opinion. It just builds up and builds up and keeps building up until it builds up into a truly awesome climax. You really have to hear this if you haven't.

I had to make a space between "push" and "it", because the original name contains a, which is similar to "feces".
Anyways, fantastic and underrated song.

The best tool song of all time just barely made the top TEN!!!!!!!!!!! but I cant really complain because this list is more accurate than the top tens list.
This song is just awesome, probably my favorite song from Aenima. Lyrics and Maynard's singing are incredible. It's just a beautiful song.
Underrated, for sure. Unbelievably, the Salival version of this is even better than the AEnima version!
Overall I don't like this song that much but the ending is full on toolgasm.

I almost couldn't do the math, great song a master strike of purity.
Best lateralus song, Maynard singing is just insane, guitar is ****ing awesome, bass is incredible and the drums are out of this world. It's just a beautiful masterpiece, It's on my Tool's Top 10.
You gotta love that drum that goes booooooing. Check out the D/R/T sync-up with the Jupiter and beyond bit of 2001. If you catch it just right it works really well but you can't tell if you've got it right straight away which is kind of frustrating. I don't think it was intentional but it's still cool.

Exactly. The entire song is great. For me, it was one of those songs that I didn't really give much of a chance at first (because of the intro, probably), but now I think it's the best song on Undertow by a million miles and the intro rules!
Nah, the intro ain't too long at all... I love it! Maynard's voice is spooky.

This is a beautiful song that uses a painful and perverse sex act as a metaphor for desensitization in the media.
Comments:
This was the first Tool song I ever heard and it hooked me for life. It's almost impossible to describe the senses felt while listening to this song. It makes my top 5 and should be higher than it is imho...

Only Tool ca write a song about prison rape that makes you think and tap your foot at the same time
Comments:
That's something I hadn't thought of before, to be honest... food for thought, certainly. I still think what Maynard's getting at seems pretty obvious but I will admit that my opinion on it probably says more about me than anything else. Also, a note to the last-but-one guy: not everything TOOL says is lies (though most of it clearly is), so it could be true that Maynard sais that in an interview. I've never heard such an interview but there's a chance that it did happen.
Some good ideas here. I am leaning more towards the sexual abuse theory but the nods to christianity are interesting. It could be that the victim sees the abuser as a sort of godlike figure and thus becomes the abuser in order to attain a godlike power over others.
Maynard says a lot of things... It's called disinformation. Tool do that kind of thing a lot. If you automatically believe what they say then you're not really thinking for yourself. They want people to think about it and figure it out for themselves. I gotta agree that it's about religion. The sexual abuse is a metaphor, it's a similar thing to the song Opiate. The song is saying that forcing religion on children is a form of abuse. It's all subjective anyway, so you can take what you want from it.
Maynard has stated in interviews it's about sexual child abuse.
It's not that direct! There's room for other interpretations, only one man can say for sure what the real meaning is, and that man isn't you! I agree with you that the song is probably about that, however.
"It seems to be about man's relationship with god" - More specifically the song is about religious indoctrination. Obviously. It's pretty direct, guys.
Well, on the surface, yes. Mostly, though, it seems to be about man's relationship with god. Seriously, re-read the lyrics. Yeah, I know. Weird, huh?

You can be surprised at a song not being in the top 20 but then you look at what is in the top 20 and you just have to say wow this band has made a lot of great music. Sober would be in any other band's top 20 but this is Tool, you know?
i`m a little bit of surprised that this song is not at top 20. Vote!

I'd probably have to go with Original Gangster Tool as well but you never know with those guys. Could stand for anything.
No it's obviously original gangster tool otherwise there would be no need to abbreviate it and in context it fits best. Everyone knows what OG stands for, so it's not hard to figure out what OGT could stand for. It has an obvious double meaning, that the man was a tool fan from the beginning (or thinks he was) and also that he is a tool.
OGT doesnt stand for Original Gangster Tool, fool. Means on good terms. Orignial Gangster tool?? Jeez
Original Gangsta Tool right here :) This tune ROCKS and the lyrics are so funny!

You know what I'd like to do? I'd like to take an inflatable ring out into the middle of the ocean and listen to that riff over and over again. You know the riff. I'd just be bobbing up and down in the ocean with an ice cold milkshake, just... winning, you know?
Dunno about top 5 but I reckon this is the best song of the Opiate EP

The power of this song alone should make it top ten, Danny's drumming is insane and it is pretty much the only song where maynards belts out that very impressive scream, its so good they dont even do it live lol
Comments:
I think they played it live before with some sort of vocal effect so Maynard didn't have to strain his voice as much. I never heard them play it live though.

I guess you could say it really depends on how "positive" or negative" your mood is at that moment...
