One of my favorite songs by The Doors, People are Strange is a great piece of music, but Jim really makes this song amazing. Jim's voice is incredible, and his lyrics are like poetry put to music. This song sums up people very well, and it deserves more praise than it receives.

To me, this is the perfect The Doors song. The lyrics and the music are both impeccable. They fit all the way.

Band was great BUT also had a real bass and a great rhythm guitar to bring it over the top. It is the the pinnacle and one of those songs that can bring you to LA in an out of body experience.
This IS the Doors best song! It allows you to hear the bands growth through the years to a perfectly harmonious group. Each member really giving it everything they had. A true masterpiece of a truly amazing band. The best.

This has an incredible bass line. I'm really surprised that a song like this wouldn't be ranked. Robby has an incredible solo. The tone is really unique for him though which males it so special. The lyrics are odd but so are all of morrisons lyrics. If it were on their first album I bet this would be a popular song

This haunting song stretches over ten minutes and perfectly captures the menacing lyrics, beautiful imagery and free form improvisation of the band

They used this song near the end of the movie "Apocalypse Now", when Colonel Kurtz got his.
Absolutely amazing track by the Doors and it is the song that sums up the whole band best. If someone asked me to give them a song that shows the best side to the Doors it would certainly be this song.

This was The Doors' second epic song that runs over ten minutes. The lyrics are strange and non-sequitur and the song features one of Morrison's most famous screams during the "We want the world..." portion.

Off their second album, this song was a huge hit for The Doors and was accompanied by one of the first music videos of the band with a bunch of circus freaks

Such a beautiful song! Very underrated in comparison with other songs of The Doors.

With Morrison allegedly singing drunk on the studio version, the lyrics to this song have been interpreted as an invective against Jim's mother and family.

I like The Doors' version of this song. Actually it is a Van Morrison song. I read that when they met each other, Jim and Van Morrison got really along because they had a lot of the same habits and they shared a passion for the blues.

The title and many of the lyrics are taken from James Frazier's "The Golden Bough". This song was originally supposed to be part of a longer studio version of "Celebration of the Lizard" which never materialized.

Although this song seems somewhat bland the melody is amazing and although its simple, and not as good as some of these songs, it is a sweet song

To whoever made the second comment,
The line- I need someone who doesn't need me, is one of my favorite Jim Morrison lines ever. I think you missed his point on that one..... But that's the beauty of art; we can interpret it any way that we want.
I do agree with you that this song is underrated, but I highly disagree with your reasoning..
this is actually a very underrated song, imo. very few doors songs are this down-tempo and the guitar gives this song a lush, breezy quality.
It would be a really good song if Morrison had omitted the redundant lyrics 'I need someone yeah who doesn't need me '
It's so fake to demand such a thing when you don't really want that. Everybody loves to be needed and certainly Morrison was craving for attention.
Early Door's music? This was on their last album: L.A. Woman. Based on this poorly thought list, you obviously haven't heard NEARLY enough of the Doors music.

This is the the song that i think of when i hear people talk about morrison's poetry. its haunting but catchy and enjoyable lyrics are what makes this song one to remember

I know the title is not attractive at all, but if this song was sung by Morrison's raspy voice, it would be a hit. Unfortunately, Morrison died so it was recorded with Ray Manzarek's voice. Each member of this band had its role. Undoubtedly, nobody could play the keyboards as Ray did. Morrison didn't know any instruments to play, but his voice was by far more expressive than Manzarek's.
