I don't like the way they stole songs but I still think their great! Yeah!!
Shrug. I was just saying. Never hurts to have the facts. What's the problem here?
In fairness, Hendrix did more to pave the way for hard rock than anyone else. Led Zeppelin are an incredibly important band, though.
With all due respect, Mr. DeargDoom, you are completely wrong. Led Zeppelin is one of the most influential Hard Rock bands in history. They paved the way for modern hard rock and heavy metal. Deep Purple was good, but, honestly, how many times can you listen to "Smoke on the Water"? It gets rather dull.

Greatest rock band of all time--Had it all: 4 distinct personalities; virtuoso musicians; greatest live performers ever; great songs--powerful, strong melodies; innovators--early use of synthesizers, concept albums, equipment (Marshall stacks, large drum kits)

Despite refusing to promote their albums, create music videos, or attempt to sell themselves, they remain one of the highest selling bands in the world. Beautiful music, engaging lyrics and the transcendent voice of Thom Yorke.

Toto was a versatile band. Mainstream but very good pop/prog rock band.

Although they are mainly known for their Glam Rock image, their music over the years filled far more than just this one genre. Heavy Metal, Melodic, Progressive, Harmonic and also downright dirty are several terms that could easily be used to describle this bands music, and it did all of this with great style and aplomb.

I never even heard of sweet but everyone knows Rock Around The Clock was the first single to sell a million!!! I just checked and Fox On The Run didn't even make it to number 1 in the USA or the UK. What did this guy think he was gonna achieve by blatantly making stuff up? lol
Actually, I kind of agree that they weren't really a rock band, no more than, say, Pink is a rock star. For Sweet to be rock you have to use a pretty loose definition of the word. The truth is Sweet had more in common with the Bay City Rollers than they did with Queen.
dude, call by rca music ltd and you will the sale of 41 mio records from sweet, after rca they went to polydor and there where the rest.
sweet was one of the best selling bands in the seventies and your wrong to say there was not a rock band. good time to you
Links are apparently not allowed, so you will have to find the list yourself. Clue: Google. Good day, and continue to enjoy the Sweet's music, just don't talk absolute nonsense about it, and people will not 'call you out' on it, as it were.
The Sweet changed their sound many times, if you were as big a fan as you think you are, you would know this. As I have already stated, the Sweet sounded nothing like Queen before Queen were formed, thus your claim, that it is quite possible that we would not have had Queen were it not for the Sweet, is easily disproven, and once again you have failed to state why you consider this manufactured pop group a progressive band. As for your other bizarre claim, here is Wikipedia's list of top-selling music artists, note that an artist must sell over fifty million records in order to appear on the list, also note that the Sweet do not appear on this list. Feel free to add the Sweet to the list, and then marvel as they are instantly removed from said list. Ponder upon this mysterious occurance. Perhaps try to add them to the list once more, and then ask yourself why you are the only person who thinks the Sweet sold over fifty million records. My recent Google adventures have revealed that I may have underestimated the Sweet, and that the figure may in fact be closer to six or seven million records. Again, though, this is not quite fifty million. It has become painfully obvious that the supposed power of the Sweet's music has impaired your ability to think rationally. I can see that continuing this conversation would be akin to banging my head against a brick wall, and I refuse to waste further thinking time on this nonsense. Here endeth the lesson.
sweet was formed in 1968 and bfore queen had their first success with killer queen in 1974 sweet had inspired on all b sides their sound with chorus singing and sound effects.Brian may sayd himself that Sweet where one of the best bands in the 70s. And the selling of 50 million records is true. The first single they wrote himself " Fox on the run" was the first single that saled over 1 million.
Nope, the Sweet sounded totally different at the time Queen was formed (1971). So it is unlikely (impossible, basically) that Queen's existence depended on the Sweet. In fact the Sweet's sound changed around the time Queen got famous, not that I'm suggesting the Sweet merely followed whichever trends happened to be selling well.
Ironically, in response to the accusation that they were a manufactured band (which they were), you point to record sales figures. This is ironic because the whole point of the Sweet, as they were a manufactured pop group, was to sell as many records as possible, and that's it. If that's your main criterion when it comes to your judging a band's ability and lasting impact then I don't think there's much I can say.
And where are you getting fifty million from? Take a zero away and you'd be much close. Five million records would be my guess, which is still a lot of records, but not quite fifty million. Certainly, they sold less than ten million. I haqve no idea why you picked fifty million, there really aren't that many bands that have sold fifty million records, and the Sweet didn't even come close to that. Weird.
P.S. Blockbuster was a rip-off of I'm A Man.
And it's quite possible we wouldn't have had Queen if it weren't for Sweet.
They influenced many other bands - pity they fired Brian in 1978 and then split up in 1982.
RIP Brian Connolly (1997)
RIP Mick Tucker (2002)
over 50 million saled records!!!!!
and listen to theyr b- sides.
Dude, are you serious? Progressive? My God that word is bandied about a lot these days. Listen, I was there, man. The Sweet were a manufactured pop band, ok? They were a complete joke, and everyone thought so. Grow up.
One of the most underratet bands ever, hear the songs they wrote self and you know what i mean
