All you need for a corn is a Rubbermaid with holes, heat mat and thermostat (around $20), newspaper, water bowl, and a $1 mouse every two weeks. I spend less than $60 per year on mine. They're cool and pretty cute too!

hamster Report Abuse
Part of the fun of owning a hamster is setting up the tunnels and homes of a hamster cage! Give your hamster plenty to do by including a hamster ball and lots of tunnels and wheels to play on.

a tank, food, and water are pretty much all you need. Turtles make great pets--they are durable, interesting to watch, and easy to care for.

bunny Report Abuse
You can litter box train a rabbit pretty easily, and they are cuddly and sweet. A rabbit is not an ideal pet for extremely small children, or for homes with cats or "sight hunting" dogs like greyhounds and whippets, or "rodent" dogs like terriers, for obvious reasons.

fish Report Abuse
goldfish don'e live all that long, but they are easy to care for, and easily replaced if needed! Be sure to discuss "tank rules" with the kids, and don't put predators and prey together, and you should be able ot maintain a harmonious aquarium.

Cat...or cats Report Abuse
A cat can be a good pet for a child--they are durable, can care for themselves (they will let you know they are hungry!), and very affectionate. Consider adopting an older (2-3 year old) cat, or a pair of siblings. They will entertain each other while your kids are in school, and adult cats are generally less likely to get into trouble than kittens are.
