The real name was Domenica ("Mimi")Bertè. Mia Martini began her career with her real name in the 1960's (five 7" recorded with that name). She performed with the name Mia Martini from 1970 until 1995, year of her unexpected death at 47 age. Mia Martini is one of the greatest voices and interpreters who Italy has ever had.
Legendary pioneer in county music. Whit out the influence of this amazing talented strong women, we would not even know many of the women on this list. Despite being one of the most awarded women in county music "super stardom" has not changed her, she is just a wonderful lady. A beautiful voice is nothing with out a true connection to the people who love you, Now in her 80's she is still performing because she refuses to disappoint the fans that love her.
Simply because she is the one and the only Asia's Songbird...Try to watch her videos and you will get amaze of her vocal power...She's truly a world class talent with distinct voice...
Easily one of the best voices to come out of the '80s. Led the band 'Til Tuesday. Great songs, such as "Voices Carry" and "Coming Up Close". Great singer-songwriter, still continuing her solo career.
co-writer of "Take Me Home,Country Roads"..founding member of Starland Vocal Band(Afternoon Delight),first 2 albums with FatCity,2 more as Bill(Danoff)&Taffy,5 more with Starland Vocal Band...an amazing voice if you could hear all of her work(let me know if you want to)
her boyish looks her swinging style was a good change in the sixties. her first usa album although not perfect showd promise and how she could go from rock to ballad easily. loved her....so did ED SULLIVAN
Googoosh is a famous Iranian singer / acter . Started performing in the early 60's. Because of political change in 1979 in Iran she was not able to perform for 20 years. In 2000 she went to USA and started singing again. She has a beautiful voice and sings with lost of emotion and love for her people. Allthough most western people are not used to the arabic style of her songs, I think she should be in the top 20 of this list.
Pure raw gut-wrenching emotion. Record breaking, chart-breaking, favorite of Aretha Franklin & Patti Labelle.
Wonderful singer/songwriter. She toured with Peter Gabriel on his Secret World Live tour and did a wonderful job with songs originally sung by Kate Bush, and Sinead O'Conner, making them her own. I know her "Where have all the Cowboy's gone?" song became highly overplayed, as did the song they used for Dawson's Creek, but listen to her voice. It is incredible, powerful, and sultry.
Incredible 13 year old opera/crossover singer who appeared fleetingly on Britain's got talent. This little girl has incredibe tone, range and volume and has the potential to go a long way even though she has not yet been signed. When she eventually becomes main stream she will storm to the top. Her youtube rendition of Bring me to life demonstrates her ability to produce notes that reach another stratosphere. Truly sublime.
Most popular singer in the history of the world Recorded over 10,000 songs in India.
Unheard of, but an amazing voice - like mixing Janis Joplin with Melissa Etheridge but BETTER. So much heart and soul into her performances. Albums do not do her justice. See her live if she comes home from Europe where they have discovered her and love her.
Beautiful warm round-toned voice, 3 octaves, #1 pop/rock singer of the '80s in Europe. Wrote The Power Of Love, top ballad from 1984-1992. Multi-Platinum selling artist over 30 years in the UK and Europe.
Tanita Tikaram (born 12 August 1969, Münster, Germany) is a British pop/folk singer-songwriter, best known for the hits "Twist in My Sobriety" and "Good Tradition" from her 1988 debut album, Ancient Heart. Tanita Tikaram started singing in nightclubs while she was still a teenager, and got the attention of WEA Records. Her debut album Ancient Heart, produced by Rod Argent and Peter Van Hooke, was released in September 1988 when she was 19 years old. It became an international hit and led to a world tour. The singles "Good Tradition" and "Twist In My Sobriety" were top 10 hits in Europe. "Twist in My Sobriety" was accompanied by an award-winning sepia colored video, set in a rural village in the Bolivian Altiplano, and directed by Gerard de Thame. Her second album, The Sweet Keeper was released in 1990 and while it was a Top 10 hit in the UK Albums Chart, it was less successful than her debut. Everybody's Angel followed in 1991, with Jennifer Warnes providing vocals on two tracks, including the lead single "Only The Ones We Love". In this album Tikaram also co-produced for the first time. 1992 saw the release of Eleven Kinds Of Loneliness. In this album she ceased collaborating with Argent and Van Hooke, and produced the album herself. It was her worst seller yet, not charting in the UK. In 1995, she released Lovers in the City, which she co-produced with Thomas Newman. In 1996 she terminated her contract with WEA with the release of a best of compilation. Signed to Mother Records, in 1998 she released The Cappuccino Songs, which was produced by Marco Sabiu. One of the singles off the album, "I Don't Wanna Lose At Love", was remixed by the Asian Dub Foundation. She then retired from the music scene for several years. In 2005, Tikaram released her latest album, Sentimental. The album, which features two collaborations with Nick Lowe, was released on the French label, Naïve Records.
Tammy has sung all over the world, a native of Wales, she won TV`S Opportunity Knocks in the 1970`s and a world-wide hit "Let me try again" followed. Check it out on the recently released Sony album "A Natural Woman". This lady lived in New Zealand for years, she is still performing, and her voice is stronger than ever.
Listen to Mandy sing her song "Only Hope" and then tell me how great these hacks are! Mandy has the voice of an angel and a great body as well. Almost enough to make me believe there is a god. I think some of you are confusing songwriting and artistry with singing. They are not the same.
Perla was a backup singer with Leonard Cohen (as was Jennifer Warnes) and has released several solo albums including a brilliant Leonard Cohen tribute album. Her Mexican/Argentine roots, California girl sensibility, incredible voice and beautiful, magical aura all combine to give the world a truly unique talent.
Amazing Italian born singer In-grid, who should have had far more success. After her international hit: Tu Es Fouto (You promised me), she released In-Tango. Her La Vie en rose album was inspiring, and I always take it on holiday for those candle-lit poolside evening drinks. I have found a few recordings on my travels, but no doubt more exist. I love you In-grid, from a United Kingdom fan!
a voice for all genre's and generations. Can't believe she's been overlooked; If your going to perform with Jeff Beck, you better have a voice as powerful as his guitar playing, just ask Rod Stewart
Selena introduced Tejano music - a genre that had previously been virtually unknown outside of her home state of Texas - to the rest of the U.S. and the world. She was the first Tejano artist to have an album be certified "gold", and the first Tejano artist to win a Grammy. She was the first latin artist to debut at #1, the first artist to have both a Spanish language AND an English language song in the top ten at the same time , and is the ONLY female musical artist IN HISTORY to have 5 albums on the charts AT THE SAME TIME. Her voice was ANGELIC, , and she could sing ANYTHING . Buildings , parks , and hundreds of children bear her name , as well as a charitable foundation and a lifetime achievement award . Selena is a LEGEND , for God's sake , but she wasn't even on this list? SERIOUSLY , people?
Lady Liberty Weekend should have cemented Ms. Patti in the pantheon of great voices: power, majesty, the latter-day Kate Smith, an impressive solo or duet in gospel circles.
Vocalist for the band Over The Rhine. Beautiful, unique, controlled, simply exquisite voice. Easily in my personal top 3.
Russian singer, well known and beloved throughout the former Soviet Union. Record sales estimated to be over 100 million. Her career started in 1965 and continues to this day. She has an amazing voice and is well worth checking out on Youtube or iTunes.
Lead singer of the band Paramore. Although she's in a young age it doesnt stop her being awsome. Totally worth to vote.
Geraldine Estelle "Geri" Halliwell (born 6 August 1972) is an English pop singer-songwriter, author, actress and philanthropist. After coming to international prominence as a member of the girl group, the Spice Girls, Halliwell launched her solo career where till now she had 4 nr.1 in Uk single charts.
Best known for her 1979 One Way Ticket disco hit with British band Eruption, Precious Wilson is undoubtedly one of the most amazing female vocalists of the century, and very badly underrated. Hers is one-in-a-lifetime voice, unbelievably powerful and charged with inhuman energy. There was an incident at one of Sopot music festivals when she entered the stage as a guest to sing one or two songs, and the audience didn't let her go for two hours! When she sings it makes blood freeze in your veins, it's an almost religious feeling. It's not easy to get her records these days, which is a great loss.
. http:// www.youtube.com/user/cuteyub?feature=mhum the performance video of a 16 year old girl where she didn't just hit the high notes but she sustained 13 seconds of high notes at the end of the song, thanks http:// www.youtube.com/user/cuteyub?feature=mhum
