Germany has a high level of living-quality. Superior quality of food, top infrastructure, short distances to all sorts of cultural and recreation higlights. Beautiful cities and landscape, overboarding history, reasonable and well educated people, who are - meanwhile - hand-tame. Country of the reformation.

Japan is a very interesting country and the Japanese are legendary people. You have to like them. You cannot dislike them. But in our days Japan is too much beaming with all sorts of radioactive trash
very nice country but definitely too crowded & prone to natural disasters. good place if you like money not that good if you dislike crowds.

This ranking really surprises me ... I've met some very rude people in both countries. Obviously it doesn't mean everybody is like that.
Austrians are most liked by the Germans, because they relish in hearing the Austrians speak Austrian. It is a pity that non-german-speaking people miss the best thing of the Austrians.
In Austria almost anything is on a top level - except: they have no tigers

There is a TV show that said our Police and Military suck. So why do we barely ever lose in battle and have a low Crime Rate.
Canada is ranked as number 1 for best place for women now that's opportunity.
I have relatives that live in Canada, their healthcare sucks!
Canada's amazing, really. Things are expensive these days, but that's to be expected these days, what with the economy. My brother has been in the hospital a lot over the years, and he's only seven, so I'm really glad that my family doesn't have to pay so much for treatment.
Broke my collar bone last winter, and was treated within 25 minutes of my arrival to the rather busy hospital.. Anyone who says you have to sit in the waiting room forever for treatment watches too much Fox News. I have only had pleasant experiences with our healthcare.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the world. I feel truly blessed to live in such a vast, beautiful country. There's just so much to see here, as far as natural geography goes, and plenty to see and do in the cities too. I feel so proud to tell people I am Canadian wherever I go.
The health care is good, I would rather wait an hour to get stitches, than pay $500, If it's serious you get care instantly and that's what matters. There are still private healthcare centers if you wish to pay for it. It is expensive to buy a home right now, which is rough for young people like me. However Alberta is going to be 60,000 men short within the next two years. The oil sands in Saskatchewan are even bigger and they too are very short in workers. Money is here, half the people I meet in the oil field are from the US. The only people saying Canada isn't a good place to live is bitter Americans, I'd be bitter too.
i live in ottawa, it's not expensive. but we don't have a good healthcare system
If it wasn't for the healthcare system of Canada I would probabily be dead. Thank you very much for such a great medical system. I am amazed that we have such good airports and roads, our transportation system is the best in the world. If the government was corrupt these systems would be non exsistant like in other countries around the world.
Canada is a beautiful country, why anyone would say anything bad about it i do not understand.Of course its not perfect no country is, every country has something to apreciate, And Canada has a ton to apreciate.I love Canada.May not be #1 to some people but why would it, everybody see's beauty differently. There is beauty in all these countries listed.
Canada is a great place to live. Friendly people, low crime rates, beautiful country. The living cost is actually lower than any other country I have lived. The weather isnt that bad.
Overtaxed, over immigration, bad weather, divided from east-west, pricey and corrupt, boring, uninhabitatible geography "clean face is actually a can of worms" call a spade a spade sorry its Not #1
Living costs in Canada are not very low, to be honest, unless you're referring to living away from any of the major cities.
In Mississauga Ontario (a suburb of toronto), a well kept detached house starts at around $430,000.
^that's not very cheap, considering our dollar is higher than the USD

I think Norway is a great country. We might not have the best weather you could think of, but it has been pretty good weather lately. In the matter of fact we can too speek English, our school system is great. I dont see where the complaining comes from, maybe it has something to do whit where you are from. Long live Norway!
Norwegians are cool. You cannot dislike them, if you can stand their coolness. THeir country is indeed too cool. Therefore I doubt it is a place where I would like to live. Why did the Vikings and Normans and Germanic tribes flee that area? A little more sun please! The people- yes, the country - no!
Oh Jesus Cristo...Where should I start?! I've been living here for 20 years - well, minus those 5 years in England, so that's 15 years in Norway. I grew up from this country and spent my childhood here, I can tell you the country is BORING. All my experiences, I've more friends in England than in Norway! Sure the economy is good, education is free (only for the high schools, primary schools and kindergarten I think) however the universities and colleges aren't exactly that free (unless it's run by the government, then it's free).
For people who think Norway is cheap place to live; I hope you are kidding cause this country is not much different than the rest out there (I don't think any country is perfect either!) - it's as expensive as most. The living expenses are at least high (not overly, but high enough) and if you fit the criteria, you may get funding support. Anyway, I could go on forever but I'll stop my rant. And no, this country has MORE RAIN than you expected! Right now, it's pretty much pouring rain! It has been raining since weeks now. Overall, it's OK to live but I find the country boring plus you need to learn their language cause they ain't speaking English!
So, I would be moving to another country if the economy allows me to. Maybe one day...
Norway is utterly depressing place. People are stuck up, depressed cows. Tons of money but that does not buy you any happiness. There is absolutely nothing to do. Whole country lives has a total of 2 people in it and even they are depressed. Weather is crap. Mosquitos are huge and lethal Shall I tell you how I really feel about Norway? :-)
live and been living here for last 12 years.
weather is not one of the plus sides a lot of rain and sun hiding behind the clouds most of the time.
Economy in this country is just beautiful.
but its only because the government closes down everything it doesn't make profit on, so not the most exiting place.
plus side, girls:) haha
Good wether?! Have you ever been to norway?
Norway is a good plase, but boring as hell :(

I absolutely loved my visit to Holland last spring. The whole country is absolutely breathtaking. Amsterdam is the most beautiful city I have ever been in, and the people there are amazing. I had my 'Canada' jacket on the whole trip, even when it wasn't cold out, just because I loved all of the Dutch people approaching me with a huge smile saying "Canadian!!" Must go back.
A truly big small nation. High standerd of living, a liberal attitude, organized and clear.
Has the worlds 3th largest port (Rotterdam) and Europe's 4th bussiest airport (Amsterdam Schiphol).
The International court of justice, the Yougoslavia tribunal, Peace Palace, Europol and other international justice organisations are located in The Hague.
Good healthcare and social welfare system.
And biking to work!

I live and I have to say it's much better than what people think. Australia is not a crowded country. 21 million people for a country the size of almost 5 or six times bigger than Japan which has 127.5 million people as of 2009. do the math. I do think the weather over here is nice in spring & i love it in summer because even if it's hot one trip to the beach can cool you down quite a lot. plus the beaches over here are really nice. unemployment is not nonexistent, i'm sorry to say but the employment rate in Australia is higher than many countries & even if you cannot be employed the government has services that can help you in most ways if you are an Australian citizen. this is not the best country but we definitely deserve to be in a higher position than 19. i must say, Melbourne was voted the best city to live in & Sydney, Adelaide & Perth has almost made it into the top 10 so give us some more credit will ya
i personally think that sunshine and having to go to the beach is wonderful! lack of unemployment can prevent recession and unlikely but possible depression. being an island continent seems to be a good thing too. even though, as you said, Australia cannot have "meaningful relationships" but they can also avoid war and illegal immigrants. im not saying its the best, but Australia seems to deserve a little more credit than it gets!
Weather's absolutely terrible, sun shines all the time so people have to go to the beach. Unemployment is non existent so everyone works. Very crowded 21 million people and the land mass is only 30% larger than western Europe. Being an island continent means not having other countries the border to have meaningful relationships with. Unfortunately with more natural resources per capita than any other country there is little chance of things getting better.

The UK must have the most interesting culture.. If been there once and I wish I lived there. The UK is different somehow to a lot of other nations in Europe the UK is full of excitement
I've seen nowhere in the world people more willing, attentive, polite and respectfull than in the UK.

America sit as 6 best place for women and its supposed to be the land of Opportunity.
Canada the best country in the world, I used to enjoy going to the US, but I am appalled by the US justice system and their social issues and prejudices. The US has 10 times per capita gun related murders, and those in prison as any of the other top western countries. Until the US looks at " right to bear arms" and gun controls I won't be visiting the US in the future, it's sad, Americans wake up!!
Great country to live in. A place where anyone is giving chance, a place that comprises of people from all over the World and that's what makes this country great. The U.S' the economy shall rise again! This' a country that's there for other nations,a country that that's made of all races, a place where justice is served. The U.S may not have not have other things like free health care, etc. but I am sure it will surely reach and God will continue to bless so they may unite and bring justice over the World. Long live USA! Garsay
ha are you kidding? They don't even have free health care, they are losing there middle class and according to most economic studies they are on the verge of an economic meltdown.
What a lie! If we base the ranking on best health, health care, upward mobility, and poverty rate, USA, my home might not make the top 20. Let's be honest! USA is the next major empire to fall due to it's arrogance and greed!
The United States is a really nice country what is not so nice is the arrogance of some of people who cant seem to see that there are also other beautiful places on the earth that are not just in the states.and that do not always need to be compared to the states...Other than that beauty wise its great and there is alot to see
I'm Australian but I have to say that the US is a very nice place to expand your work & career opportunities. I studied there for a few months & found that what happens in movies are real over there. in AUS i have never seen a school that has people categorised that obviously. where i live there is very subtle difference between jocks, cheerleaders, nerds, neutrals, skaters rebels etc. we only have 3 categories, popular, normal & not so popular.
the US also provides more oppportunities for people pursing performing arts ( acting, singing, dancing etc) as a career.
great place for people who are competitive & have good brains that make money, also good for people who are pursuing their dreams but if you have no financial stability before you go there it is hard to get by.
anyways this country is a versatile country that varies from state to state but for me california is nice. I like new york as well but california isnt as cold.
The United States, in my opinion, is a great place to live for wealthy people.
Not so much for the middle-class.
The united states is, reguardless of the list, one of the most exciting places to live. But I understand It's position since our economy is horrible compared to the rest. And I think we may have the most corrupt government in the world. Otherwise It's very competitive and I think that brings the best to the top. Great place to live.

It is the best country to live ever. It has healthy economy, best education system, best welfare system, and a very strong security. Most importantly, There is far less racism compared to so called livable countries.

WHAT!?!! Number 16! Denmark is ab beautiful country with lots of windmills, heck, they basically live off air! Gorgeous environment, friendly people, great food, great economy and imports/exports. Everything about the Danes is great, Denmark should be up there next to Norway, as well as all the other Nordic Nations!

France has the best healthcare in the world? That would only be possible if ALL THE NURSES AND DOCTORS were from a different country.
France has the worst and the most up-nosed people in the planet.
You know... France has the best healthcare in the world. It really should be higher on the list.

Panama is indeed a really beautiful country. If you have the money to own a hacienda, it could be well a place to retire. The wilderness is stunning and beautiful, the nature is still intact. But Beethoven is far off.
i live in panama and the living is fine.. there are political problems but nothing that affects me... people here(like 60 or 70% of them) are ignorant and stupid and sometimes i believe that thats why Panama is not a developed nation :S it is developing little by little though....It is a good place to invest and live.. if u have a salary of $3000+ .. in general im comfortable living here

Every Nation has flaws,so take your negative comments and shove it up your ass.Portugal is a lovely country, one of the most peacefull in the world, with a very low crime rate, free health care for all its citizens and overall a decent and good quality of life.
OMG I'm portuguese and I'm surprised :o who would guess that a Portugal out of 100s of other countries would be in the 5th place. Might move back to Portugal.

Honestly, when it comes to Greece everyone thinks of their political and financial problems skipping any other incredible thing about this country. I'm not even greek but I'm truly in love with this country. Moreover, rude comments won't make your own country any better. It'll just show what kind of a person you are.
Greece has the resources and the capable people to bring things to rights in the economy.. What is lacking is political will to make the needed changes.. After all, the changes that have to be made are all in removing the patronage they have done into the civil service for over 30 years. Greeks didn't go bankrupt, the state did and in their desperation to fix that they taxed the Greeks into bankruptcy.
you have to be joking... Greece is an earthly paradise, about to become a cradle for the living dead. Greeks (I am one) are the most politically incorrect people in the universe. They have no morals and no love for their country and that is why all that happened.
