Great Transitions in Technology

This really is a major breakthrough and led the way for the Renaissance and great changes in communications. It allowed for mass production of books and allowed for the masses to start to be able to read. Without this transition, we would still live in a feudal society, with limited ability to transfer knowledge from generation to generation.

This transition was another major change. Not only did it lead to improved weaponry, but it lead to improved farm implements which allowed for better farming, thus increased food production and increased population.

This of course is a huge transition allowing for much faster travel. What would take days for travel, could now be measured in hours. This freed us so much and allowed for greater access to products and moving to new locations for jobs.

Indoor lighting has progressed amazingly. Candles were barely adequate and were dangerous and allowed for fires. Hard to read by as well. Then a brief time of gas lighting was available. Gas lights were easier to see by, but left soot around homes and were even more dangerous than candles in regards to fire. Finally, we shifted to electricity which has been a wonderful source of lighting. Easy to see by, only limited danger of fire and no sooty residue.

The Assembly Line helped usher in much faster means of manufacturing thus being able to lower unit costs and meet the needs of a growing number of consumers. This was a huge change in thought.
