Retired to stud after a fantastic 2009 flat season. Among the progeny include Oaks winner, Taghrooda, Masar (who won the 2018 Epsom Derby) and top stayer Stradivarius (two Goodwood Cups, 2017 & 2018 and an Ascot Gold Cup 2018).

He had stamina, tremendous acceleration and the balance to handle courses as different as Epsom & Longchamps. Mick Kinane who also rode Galileo said he had never felt such power beneath him when asked to go. In contrast to the likes of Frankel and Mill Reef, he was not a relentless galloper and had a tendency to idle when he had nothing to chase. To quote Sir Anthony McCoy, "We never got to the bottom of him." How he would have compared with Pinza, Sea-Bird, Nijinsky, Mill Reef and Shergar is anyone's guess, but for what my opinion is worth, the best European racehorse we have seen this century to date.

Has just become the greatest sire of all time, 171 Group Ones as of 19th September 2019, surpassing Danehill's 168.

As of 10th May 2019, has sired over 150 Group 1 winners including Hermosa, the recent Newmarket 1000 Guineas winner. One of the top flat horses of 2001 and has sired the likes of Minding, Winter, Australia, New Approach, Frankel and Churchill.

Great run winning the Triple Crown, Haskell, and Breeders Cup Classic, and only lost the Travers by half a length. Best horse of the 21st century. Would have done great things as a 4 year old if he were allowed to run.

As many have said, he is a horse of a lifetime. Great personality and could cruise at high speed. Once he got out front, no horse was going to catch him.

Literally THE greatest. Won 14 races and considered by many knowledgeable people to be the very best of all time. Unfortunately his best distance seems to have been a mile to 12 furlongs and so his connections ether chose to duck out of the really big races, or were too cowardly. However this should not detract from hos greatness

Won Preakness and Belmont in 2005, was tough as nails with his Preakness win, almost falling to his knees on the far turn after clipping heels with Scrappy T. Won Belmont by 7 lengths, running the fastest final quarter since 1969. A true champion.

I can't wait until California Chrome bursts the Beholder bubble. Her owner already cursed her with his "Who's that?" rhetorical question when an interviewer asked him about facing Chrome in the 2016 Breeder's Cup.

Phenomenal Japanese racehorse who won the Japanese Triple Crown. A perinnially unlucky horse being just beaten in the Arc and the Japan Cup. A world record over 3200 metres in 3:13!! Remember that the big 2 milers like the Melbourne Cup are run around 2:24.

Sprinter who became the first two year old since 1978 to win the Prix de L'Abbaye de Longchamp. It was a mixed hour for rider Hollie Doyle. She was second on board Nashwa when trying to make all of the running but was pipped by a 66-1 shot in a middle distance race. So she was on board 'The Platinum Queen' in Longchamp's signature sprint and delivered, making up for the disappointment of the previous race.
