In the early 80s, IBM was Big Blue that dominated computers. Apple Computers launched a campaign to topple Big Blue to provide a different way of thinking about computers. The real winner turned out to be Microsoft.

When Microsoft's star really began to rise and it became apparent that IBM was not the real competitor because of all of the clones on which the Microsoft operating systems was installed. Apple changed its direction of its fight which continues today against Microsoft, although they do collaborate in some ways.
