Essential Picture Books for the Early Childhood Classroom

These are picture books to read to children. Some are good to read to them to educate. Some are good to sing to help learn the words. Some have wonderful repetitive elements that they can repeat and participate in the book. And some are great to do along with projects.

This is an old, but classic book. This is a traditional travel story with wonderful educational elements. Children still love this classic story and now has a connection to a movie.

Another humorous picture book that children absolutely love. It helps children learning the alphabet in a fun way and also uses repetitive elements to help them learn the book quickly.

This book is an awesome book that children really love. It can be sung to the melody to the first part of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. Children quickly learn to sing it and the words before actually being able to read.

This humorous picture book is great for teaching young children to count backwards from 5. It also has repetitive elements that children can learn quickly to repeat and they can soon learn to "read" it through memorization.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas Report Abuse
This wonderful Dr. Seuss story with magnificent rhyming elements intrigues children. The old cartoon and the more modern movie also give good connections for the story, but children still love the story itself, especially around Christmas time.
