I am a sucker for true stories, football movies, and movies that make me cry within the first 10 minutes. This movie is all three. Matthew McConaughey puts forth a very strong performance in a movie based on a heart-wrenching tragedy.

Ryan Gosling plays a drug-addict/teacher. Usually I hate drug-addicrts, but I loved Ryan Gosling in this movie. He was a fantastic teacher, his students loved him, and then he would come home from school and get lost in a sea of high. He gives a phenomenal performance, which I am pretty sure earned him an Oscar nod.

This movie actually made me nauseous with fear on more than one occasion. Many movies scare me, but very few of them make me sick just with suspense, not even with a gross-out.

Will Smith so rarely gets serious and it is nice to see it happen. He plays a poor man who is trying to make a living selling medical equipment that no one will buy just to take care of his son. This is a very inspiring and heartwarming story and possibly Will Smith's greatest performance of all time.
