Tom Seaver Report Abuse
He is Mr. Met. Without a doubt the greatest Met to every wear the orange and blue in his prime and one of the greatest pitchers ever to pitch in Major League Baseball. Often remembered as one of the heroes of the 1969 Miracle Mets in which he won the Cy Young award he would go on to win two more Cy Youngs with the New York Mets. When he was traded it became known as the “midnight massacre” and broke the hearts of Mets fans. So beloved was he by Mets fans that when he came on for the Boston Red Sox in the 1986 World Series against the Mets he was applauded.

Mike Piazza Report Abuse
After all he accomplished with the Los Angeles Dodgers it seemed as if Mike Piazza would be remembered as the Dodger that was traded to the Mets. But something funny happened in New York, Piazza became a Met Legend. I every season with the Mets he made the All-Star team. He also guided the Mets to their only back-to-back postseason appearances in 1999 and 2000. His first four seasons with the Mets saw him post homerun tallies of 32, 40, 38 and 36. Easily the most dominant offensive player the Mets have ever had.

Dwight Gooden Report Abuse
The youngest pitcher to play in an All-Star Game. The youngest pitcher to start in an all-star game. “Doctor K” looked to be that once in a generation talent when he came on the scene. In only his second season he posted one of the greatest seasons by a pitcher in the history of baseball. He won 24 games, he struck out 268 and has an ERA of 1.53. How good was he that season? His ERA in his 4 looses was 2.89. Pitchers have won the Cy Young for having a higher ERA all season. Oh, and he was 20 years old! Unfortunately, his numbers began to wan some years later, a decline often attributed to his drug use.

Darryl Strawberry Report Abuse
Much in the same vein as Dwight Gooden, Strawberry was destined for greatness but short-circuited his career due to drug abuse. When the rightfielder debuted with the Mets it wasn’t long before many in baseball talked of him becoming the best slugger of his generation. Mets fans saw flashes of that brilliance in 1987 when he hit 39 homeruns, 104 RBIs and 108 runs and then followed that up with another 39 homeruns and 101 RBIs and 101 runs in 1988. After his contract expired he signed with his hometown Los Angeles Dodgers for the 1990 season crushing the hopes of Mets fans. Even though his declining numbers and injuries with Los Angeles showed that not signing him was a blessing in disguise for the Mets it still felt like the Mets lost one of their own.

David Wright Report Abuse
If Tom Seaver is Mr. Met, then David Wright is Mr. Met 2.0 He looks to be a lifer in the orange and blue. Loved by fans he has been the consistency of the up and down Mets of the last few years. His six full seasons with the Mets have seen him post a batting average above .300, over 100 RBIs a season and more than 25 homeruns a season. He’s been carrying the team on his back the last few years and he’s still only 28 years old.
