Its an excellent Rum but the best rum in the world is Santa Teresa 1796 and Carupano
By far the best rum in the world. First ever rum inducted into the Hall of Fame. There was a new Reserva bottle that was released as a limited edition bottle in 2013 that is also amazing. XO is incredible too.
I agree with you. Plantation's 20th anniversary tastes much better!
An excellent rum with depth complex flavor and a mature smooth finish. Their XO is even better in my opinion.
i own a liquor, but i can really said that zacapa is the best rum , is smoother, nice aroma , well blended and to really enjoy not in a party with so many people only for two{ i really, really recommended}is really a hall of fame rum
this rum is complex, mellow and sweet. one of the best out there.
Oh sooooo good
but personally Plantation 20th anniversary beats RZ 23 by far!
I agree this is a sweet rum but that is what I like about it. On the other hand its almost to clean, you won't find a smoother rum anywhere but its almost watery to my palate compared to some "lesser" rums.
it is indeed the best rum ever, if someone has the chance to try the Zacapa Centenario X.O. that is a really outstanding flavor that starts in the tip of your tong and goes through your mouth leaving a sensation of satisfaction and success., the only problem is that this is really expensive, nevertheless on a daily basis i will prefer a drink of zacapa than several drink from another rums!!!
After winning every competition for several straight years, it was the first (and still the only one) rum to be added to the international hall of fame of rum - and in my opinion that's really what it deserves...it's simply by far the best rum in the world!

best rum in India. I have tasted a lot of different flavours and types of rum.but nothing come close to it.you love it or hate it,you better not miss it
Perhaps its one of a kind. Certainly the best rum I have ever had & I have tasted a lot of them. The aroma & after taste is haunting.
This is very interesting and unique. You can definitely taste the caramel as it gets very sweet when mixed with Coke Zero. It really has a flavor like no other.
Old Monk has a unbelievably strong caramel aroma and is the first rum from India I have ever seen. It has a dark, rich, amber color. It actually has a strong caramel flavor to it. It is definitely the predominant taste but it really isn’t too sweet. Mixed with Coke Zero it really makes it taste like Caramel Coke, and almost tastes as sweet as a Captain and Diet. It is very unique and actually could be marketed as a flavored rum. It would be great in a Hot Buttered Rum.
If you are a rum lover...this is the rum you should taste before dying.
Either you love this Rum or you Hate this, there is no middle opinion on this.
One the finest aromatic rum i have ever tasted.
3.
Won the Best rum in the world 4 times. Smooth Molasses taste straight up on the rocks.
Comments:
ULTIMATE RUM.GREAT VARIETY OF SUGAR CANE AND GOOD CLIMATE PRODUCE THE BEST RUM.TRY IT ON THE ROCKS.
AV RAMPERSAD/TRINIDAD.
Winner of the "BEST" rum in the world 4 times is no fluke!
This one of the "Best" dark rum, if not the very best and with high value for $$$! In fact, the entire Eldorado line up is outstanding. For those of you that enjoy mixing, the 5 year old is the very good (Big fruit flavour). However, as you move up the food chain... it's on the rocks. Stick the 15 year old in the freezer for a few hours and then pour yourself a shot... now that's God's good!
ENJOY!
this is the best rum in the world. The #12 ranking is not indicative of what this rum is worth in taste and body.
It is very smooth....a quality Rum, but i was disappointed with the lack of aroma. This is best drunk "on the rocks"
This rum is ranked way to low. For the money, this is the number one. I haven't tried the 25 yr yet only because I'm afraid I'll have to adjust the budget, For the money there is none better.
We got the 25 year old in today, and wipes the floor with the 15. It may be dearer, but worth it
i usually get the 12yr but the 15,21 event the 5yr is fantastic, great flavorful rum
4.
This rum is exceptional and goes down smoother than the excellent Ron Zacapa 23. An Absolute must try for any Zacapa or Zaya fan.
Comments:
Number 48? Who made up this list? This rum should be in the top 5 easily. It is expensive, costing over $100 a bottle, but it is comprised of rums up to 30 years old aged at 2300 meter above sea level. One of the very best rums in the world period.
5.
Another great rum from Venezuela...aged in oak and taste is full and is best drunk with ice only
Comments:
i think is the best rum of the world, flavored and taste sweet.
After 5 years of taste testing good sipping rums I think that, overall, Venezuela makes the best sipping rums ie: Pampero Anniversairo, Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva etc.
Superb, and if you go to Venezuela don't miss the opportunity to take with you a bottle, is very difficult to find and very expensive.
6.
Comments:
Good rum that has been sweetened.
Really a "thin" liqueur.
Enjoyable, delicious, sweet.
An extraordinary meal with extraordinary friends then, Diplomatico exclusiva reserva neat in a snifter &
Fresh cigar lit up, sitting on the porch, while thinking about all you hopes and dreams, you exhale realizing they are all beginning to come true. The vanilla and oak notes from the rum dance & linger long after it was sipped. A beautiful woman's voice slips through the window screen and beckons you to bed. One last sip of silky rum before you retire, then nothing else but her. Anything else would act to spoil the moment. Just the taste of rum and her should remain.
7.
Comments:
An absolute TRAVESTY that this rum is not in the top 5 on this list. BY FAR, one of the best rums produced. Fantastically smooth and the price is right!
8.
Comments:
Very good "real" rum from the Original distiller of rum!
Rum started here. Genuine, fine taste without any tricks or added flavorings. Fairly priced!
this rum is mellow and rich with spice becaue it is aged in barrels previously used to age bourbon. definitely top shelf!
Why would anyone with any taste mix this fine rum with coke! You should be keel dragged!
What an amazing flavor profile this rum has. Gives every expensive brand a serious run for it's money.
Truly a heavenly rum experience to be savored
on ice or with a coke. Aged in the oldest rum barrels in the word a true smokey caramel flavor that you would normally pay three times the amount for in a very premium bottle.

Whenever I get bored of my scotchs' I love to turn to rum and the 12 yr old is the best buy;
the 18 yr old is outstanding and sadly I was never able to get hold of the Centenario 21.
My all time favourite though is Plantation 20th anniversary which is questionably not on this list yet without question the world best rum which is still available in limited quantities.
7 years old grand reserve, it's by far the best.
Not to sweet, muscular.
What i love about Central American Rums is that they don't have that very dry taste and very sweet like in the Caribbean, Venezuela.
BEST RUM IN THE WORLD, NICARAGUA.
There is no 21 year old Flor de Cana. It is called Centenario 21 as a way to welcome the 21st century. It was launched as a limited edition in 1999 and part of 2000. The rum is actually 15 years old.
Tasting the 18 years old Flor de Cana You can feel the harmony. More muscular than the 30 years old Zacapa and less sweet.

21 & 30 Years?????Humm not angel share????In the Caribbean???????
a good starting rum great for mixing but the extra, 21 year old and 30 year old are even better....excellent rums to enjoy sipping
Still one of my favorite sipping rums. LCBO price is $50. I usually can find it in the States for around $25.
This is the rum that got me hooked on sipping rums, very smooth with hints of citrus, no burn and a wonderful finish. Now made and bottled in Guyana
The best rum in the world! Once you taste it you can never leave it. Unfortunately not sold in the USA.
11.
Comments:
I think its the best rum in the world together with Carupano rum
one of the best rum from venezuela, but you should also try pampero aniversario, Cacique Antiguo and Santa Teresa Bicentenario, also great ones!
As any Venezuelan rum... just delicious. With Pampero Aniversario should be in the top 5.
Agreed! This is on my shortlist when I head down to the coast, its not the easiest to get in the midwest.
13.
Comments:
This is one of the best rums money can buy, smooth but full of strenght, is extraordinary
This is an astonishingly delectible rum from the true kings of rum-crafting in the Dominican Republic: Barcelo. Accept no imitations. This rum bites at first with some licorice, then opens up to vanilla and caramel, and finishes off with the aftertaste of oak and leather that matches perfectly with a Cigar. I love it!

Comments:
Very sweet but great until they changed the recipe in england and now it is really bad
Horrible and harsh....should not be on a list at all...except one for worst rums
Nice spiced sweet rum. One of my all time favorites. And you can't beat the price in the US.
One of the most delicious rums I've had especially for the price (I can find it cheaper than C.M.) Great with Coke Zero...
Loved this when it was first released in the UK. And for some unexplained reason the importers decided to change the recipe that came to the UK. Not touched the UK Version since. What a pity!!!!!!!!
Bland if you live in the UK as all the spices have been taken out. Avoid in UK, however is great if drinking the US version.
Great stuff, dr pepper and sailor with a lime awesome. Drinking in the rocks even better. A must try for any rum enthusiast.

Comments:
excellent clear rum, very sweet with no dryness, it has a clean finish. great with coke or just on the rocks! one of my favorites!
16.
Comments:
Once a good rum but now a cheapened scam. Once 12 years old but now a "blend of 12 rums." Once in a cane-adorned bottle but now without any cane but with a SCREW cap!
Outrageous abuse of long-time buyers!
Taste is similar with the vanilla flavorings but the underlying young "12" kinds of alcohol now burns,,,
Blasphemy!
One of my all time favorites. Has subtle caramel and toffee flavor with a strong vanilla nose and base. Slightly sweeter than other rums of its type. Often sold at a lower price than far inferior rums. An excellent choice, if you can find it, buy it. You will not be disappointed
this is the best sipping rum and should be moved up in the rankings,
Rum is my favorite spirit and i have tried many of the the top rated rums and this is the smoothest and most mellow i have had yet. flavor profile is amazing!
OOOPs! My mistake. I was writing about Pyrat XO reserve and not Havana Club
Recently tried. This bottle changed my opinion of Rums. Delicious.

Comments:
excellent rum and one of my favourites as an everyday rum. love the Appleton Extra, 21 year old and 30 year olds as well
very complex, rich flavor profile with lots of spice, the flavors dance in your mouth!

Comments:
Barely tolerable rum. "Rubber hose" aftertaste characteristic of all Bacardi rums.
8 years, so what,,,it tastes inferior.
Why can't this company make a better mass-market product?
A good rum, but it should be WAY lower on this list. In my opinion this is a borderline sipping rum.
Perfect sweetnes, thick enought to stay in the mouth with vanilla tastes, wood and caramel.

Comments:
This is by far one of the most enjoyable rums. It has a mild bite and goes down incredibly smooth. But, the best part is that moment just after you swallow. The scent, sweetness, and spices are stunning.
Belize's best authentic aged rum just perfect try it u'll like it
very exquisite very nice blend of flavors, the oak, the caramel chocolate, the coffee everything is there Belize's best
its a one year old rum but buy far its the best ever rum, very unique, aged to perfection wonderful blend sweet nectar of the gods
wonderful aroma, sweet taste of caramel chocolate, coffee, just wonderful smooth taste that leaves you asking for more
one of the best aged rum i have ever tasted its full with flavor and the sweet aroma its more than what you ask for

I an 70 ish and have been sipping fine rums from all over the world. This, for the money, is the BEST ever....hands down!
I have been sampling rums for the past 30 years and have to state that Barbancourt Extra Reserve would fall much higher on my list. When I can get it, it's my go to rum served neat. At least #5
#19 are you crazy? This rum should be at least in the top 10 and I've taste them all.
mellow with strong oak overtones, excellent flavor all the way around
This rum is excellent--it is smooth and complex. It's definitely one of the best rums I've ever had.
23.
Comments:
A flavored rum. Allspice berries added to rum sourced from the Caribbean and then stored a while, filtered and bottled in Bermuda...
Best dark rum on the shelf even when its not their premium bottle!
flavor profile is way too much like syrup for my liking, does not have a clean finish either.
If you like sweet, rich tasting rum like me ( you won't have a better rum). Very inexpensive but one of the best!!
Good strong dark rum. MIght be the cheapest rum on the list...but most definitely doesn't taste cheap.

This is great stuff . . pair it with the right cigar and you're in flavour and aroma heaven . .
I drank this rum on a trip to Trinidad and it is exceptionally superb! Smooth as silk and with an remarkably long finish. The folks at Angostura pay very close attention to details - and it shows in 1824.
This rum is the finest, i have tasted.........so full of flavor and aroma...........sweetness personified.
Too bad we can't get it here in Vancouver. All Trinidad Rums have been delisted for some reason. Zaya is available, i guess because it is marketed via the USA.

Very smooth and elegant palate, the best of the best rum in the world
28.
Made in Dominican Republic by Maestros Roneros Cubanos.
This is the greatest rum of Oliver & Oliver house, part of Cubaney family. It has an attractive dark cherry color with ruby flashes. An extraordinary "great reserve", a treasure full of strength and fruity aromas with presence of vanilla, almonds and old oaks, reinforce a balanced bouquet, very vigorous, which announces its excellence. Is a very sophisticated rum, slightly doomed, silky, achieving the perfect roundness of flavors, both primary and persistent. To our brand is the insignia rum and we consider it the best in the world.
Enjoy preferably alone.

Brown rum distilled from fermented molasses. Minimum of 6 to 10 years in used whisky and bourbon barrels.
The older of the two rums from Barrilito, the extra time spent aging is evident in this heavier rum with a slightly smoky flavor that doesn't overpower the rum flavor.
Bottled at 43% alcohol by volume.
Comments:
Bought this rum a couple of years ago in San Juan. Outstanding value and a very good rum with smoot hness and complexity
Hands down the best tasting and smoothest rum I have ever sipped. A must buy any trip to Puerto Rico!
18 is an insult, I have tried half the rums on the list including the havana club that everyone raves about the world over, which is particularly inferior to most of the rums on the list as far as my palate is concerned. I would sooner relinquish my most expensive bottle of cognac from my liquor cabinet then my $15 bottle of barrilito 3 star
This is the best rum produced in Puerto Rico since the 1800's. I drink it straight up in a sniffer... If you like rum...you will LOVE Ron del Barrilito!

This rum has for many years been savoured by the true RUM tasters, Matusalem originally from cuba and now processed in Domenican Republic has always been defined as one the classic rums of the caribean. For those new to its flavour please drink it only with ice (on the rocks) in order not to alter its flavour.
Comments:
by far the sweetest rum available anywhere, it is also mellow and is excellent on the rocks or with coke.

Great rum. The best of Colombia, made in the Northern part of Valle del Cauca, a region of the world famous for its sugarcane. Perpetual spring gives this equatorial valley the ability to produce world record crops. The place has a sugarcane and rum tradition that is at least 500 years old. This rum has incorporated into its recipe a special blend of fruits that gives your buds a very particular flavor. One of the best rums I have found for the person with developed taste, it's usually a surprise for rum connoisseurs. Of course it doesn't reach the purity and consistency of things like Pampero or Flor de Caña, and some other Puerto Rican and Venezuelan rums, masters of their trade, but it gives you the best bang for the buck. If you do not take in account tequila, is also one of the easiest-on-the-hangover drinks (never had one with this drink). Compared with this (and most rums in this wonderful list), whiskey is (and always will be) a drink for northern barbarians.

This is not true 25 years Caribbean rum, artificial wood flavoring added. Not even age.

Increadibly Smooth and definitely to be included in the top 20.

Only available in Australia, easily the smoothest drinking rum, especially with coke.

Can only be bought in Jamaica which is why its probably not on the list yet. Best rum I've gotten my hands on.

Analogy: The reason people hang those cardboard pine-trees in their cars... is because something in the car smells bad. *If you need to add spice or flavoring to a rum... it's because the rum tastes bad. No?
Life is short, why would you every consider drinking this when there are so many rums that are so much better!!
I don't drink often, but when I do, it's a Coke and Captain. Mix in a little lemon juice, and it's a fantastic, cheap drink.
Not anymore I grew out of that especially when I had Sailor Jerry
unfortunately the spice is artificially added and not from the barrels its aged in like so many better rums.
Rum gets popular for a reason people, people enjoy drinking it. I do not by any means believe it deserves to be in the top 10..but I do believe it deserves it's place at 35...so stop being so pretentious and just choosing to hate it because it is popular.
Should be bannished to the big touristy cruise liners for those headed to Cancun with no knowledge of what a fine rum is!
Captain is delicious. Stop being ****ing snobs just because it is so popular.
Sooo overated!!! An it gives you the worst hangover ever! NOT GOOD
52.
Great 8YO Dominican Rum.
Very good pure and "On The Rocks" and delicious with Coke.
Also nice priced for the quality
53.
Have been traveling around and tasted something in this country (Philippines) . People say its a new product. The most outstanding taste from the tip and after taste that i dont want to try another rum for the night.

Appleton Blue is the cognac of rums. Aged to perfection.
Smooth and mellow beyond belief. I note that Appleton
VX, a very fine rum but markedly inferior to Appleton Blue,
sits on your top ten list whereas Blue isn't even mentioned.
I assume it's the price - $90-$110 per 750 Ml -which is above
your readers' snack bracket.
