Not necessarily. Most are very calm and gentle but like any other breed you can get the occasional short tempered one. I know that for a fact as I sit here with 26 stitches to my chin from my 9 y/o Bassett. I had no warning from him; just leaned over & hugged him. I have had 4 & this is the first.
