Did you know that edible ginger is onely one of approximately 1,300 species of the very diverse Zingiberaceae family? Gingers as a group add outstanding exotic foliage and flowers to the landscape. Many, classified as tropicals, do well as houseplants if they can spend a little time in the greenhouse from time to time. Gingers provide plants for all light conditions. These flowers are tall and spread at the top like a torch. The maroon coloring of the stem and undersides of leaves is unique. This plant needs 2 years in the greenhouse before it will start to bloom.

A shade loving plant that has broad, shiny, rubbed leaves and a red stem. Flower spikes appear mostly at ground level. The flower forms a 3" creamcolored tube with dark red on the inside. Very exotic.
