Actually I'd rank Brahms Symphony No. 1 as the second to the Beethoven 9th.

Symphony No. 2 in C minor "Resurrection" – Gustav Mahler Report Abuse

Comments:
It is music like that of Mahler’s that make me wonder if God’s love, grace and mercy is appreciated by humankind or not. Mahler’s ability to create musical themes that corroborate God’s existence and power and how precious life is. This piece of music (5th Movement) is a resemblance of pure dedication to classical music by Mahler and his gratitude to life’s greatest phenomenon, faith. In the whole classical repertoire of orchestral symphony and choral accompaniments, this is the only piece that made me cry due to its colorful yet emotional musical setting and grandeur. Mankind made music, so music is mankind's greatest gift to the world...God didn't write this symphony, Gustav Mahler did. It is an obligation for all humankind to honour God’s power and Mahler’s brilliance and gift which God blessed him with. In the finale of this last movement, Mahler said: “You shall die to find life. You shall rise again; Yes, you shall rise again in an instant. What you have overcome shall bring you to God.” Bravo Mahler…Bravo Mahler…
