B.J. Penn Report Abuse
Possibly the most talented lightweight ever, Penn has signature wins over Sean Sherk, Takanori Gomi, Caol Uno and Matt Hughes (welterweight). Penn’s style blends world-class Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with powerful and technically-sound boxing. His only flaw is an over-reaching desire to compete against elite fighters in higher weight classes, resulting in fewer title defenses at lightweight.

Gray Maynard Report Abuse
It might seem too soon to place “The Bully” this high on the list of best lightweights, but his wrestling and strength have sent him on a rapid rise to the top of the division. He will likely be in line for a UFC title shot with another win or two, at which time he can cement his status as an elite lightweight. He has signature wins over veteran Rich Clementi and fellow contender Frank Edgar.

Kenny Florian Report Abuse
The number one contender in the UFC’s lightweight division, Florian has lost only once at 155 pounds since joining the UFC. Effective both standing and on the ground, Florian uses a broad repertoire to finish his opponents. He will face Penn in August 2009 for the right to claim the top spot.

Eddie Alvarez Report Abuse
Recently crowned the Bellator lightweight champion, Alvarez has a stellar 18-2 record. Wins over Tatsuya Kawajiri and Joachim Hansen prove his mettle. It would be nice to see him tested by the wrestling-heavy UFC stable, but in the meantime we’ll have to settle for him blasting through the likes of Toby Imada.
