I think hilsa is the best, hilsa isn't focus because of its rareness. I can assure u that if you taste this fish u will forget the other fish cause its too taste and smelly. Try it
I just fixed dolphin for the first time....and it was good....but not over the top. See other notes below.

Hands down.....one of my favorites!!! I place in the oven on 350% with "maple syrup" on top....NOT FAKE pancake syrup....but REAL maple syrup....to die for!

Yellow perch and crappie need to be at the upper end of the list too. Way better than rock bass.......Walleye is king!
I'm not a fisherman but my Dad pointed out to me that a fish I caught (in the ocean) was Pickeral and not good eating because it was "fishy" tasting and very boney. On the other hand, while in Michigan for awhile, I happened to catch a "Wall Eye", also called "Pike", in fresh water.
SO, I'm confused by your description of your #4 choice. Can you clarify?

This is by far the best eating salt water fish. They feed on crabs and taste like a cross between grouper and crabmeat. Take it from a commercial fisherman, there is no close second.

Taste quality just isn't on par with the a fore mentioned species, no matter the preparation method. Third rate at best.
Amen to the prior post. The mere mention of this fish in the list makes me question credibility of every other comment and ranking.
Tilapia in front of tuna....this list loses all credibility. If you have only eaten canned tuna or not tried 90 percent of the fish you shouldnt be voting

This fish is one of the best tasting fishes---I have had it from tropical countries, there are few others that match this fish in taste(king fish is salt water fish), and one is called pearl fish(fresh water fish),
---Actually different fishes are good for different styles of preparation.

The first time I tried it I was in a restaurant and it was delicious, second time I cooked it myself purchased from the grocery store, and I was grossed out, too fishy and greasy. Now I am cautious of bottom feeding fish and am nervous to try talapia. Maybe there are certain preparations that must be done.

Caught wild & consumed on the day is a treat to enjoy, but keeps well froxen for a couple of months max. Barra are fighters & can be wary to catch. The time involved catching is rewarding with a flesh that has a delightful white meat, not oily, is sweet & firm. DO NOT confuse Australian Barramundi with imported fish from other areas with the same name. Austaralian Barra comes from pristine waters. Pan sized fried in butter or steamed in foil, perfect.

Atlantic mackerel are sought after for food either cooked or as sashimi. It consists mostly of red meat and has a strong taste desirable to some consumers. Atlantic mackerel is extremely high in vitamin B12. Atlantic mackerel is also very high in omega 3 (a class of fatty acids), containing nearly twice as much per unit weight as does salmon. Unlike King mackerel and Spanish mackerel, Northern Atlantic mackerel are very low in mercury, and can be eaten at least twice a week according to EPA guidelines.

Usually found in Asian markets , it's probably one of the ugliest fish on the planet but tastes like an amazing steak if done right .

An old man that owned a 150 year old grist mill, on a tributary of the Little River in Tennessee caught about 30 of these when they came to spawn below the mill dam when I was visiting one summer. He cleaned them, rolled them in flour, and fried them in an old cast iron skillet. It was some of the best fish I have ever eaten, served with a side of cornbread made with fresh course ground corn meal from his grist mill and some corn on the cob from his garden. Awesome!

Pomfret is one of the few fish that does not taste fishy. It has a beautiful white meat with central and side bones. It is considered a prized fish.

If you want to eat this fish, you have to catch it. It is never sold in markets. Just delicious!!!

One of the oldest and ferocious "fish" that exist. Unbelievable sweet and very versatile in that they can be boiled, baked, grilled and used in sauces. A bit fiddly to prepare and even harder to eat if not prepared correctly.
