It looks like a cute mousey creature with a long nose, but don’t be fooled by its meek appearance. It is the only mammal to inject rattlesnake-like venom through its teeth.

These critters are toothless, without external ears, skunk-like scent glands, tongues up to 16 inches in length, and are covered in large scales that make up approximately 20% of their body weight. When threatened they curl up into armored balls.

They have an inflatable skull hood and a massive nasal balloon. When aroused, angered, or showing off males can inflate these sacs to a foot or more in diameter.
