(The qualifier that Wealth of Nations is 'equal in status to the Arthashastra', strikes me as somewhat hilarious. Almost as if someone were to praise Paradise Lost as being 'at least as good as Harry Potter') Worth noting that Smith didn't consider himself an economist (the term didn't exist) but rather a moral philosopher, and if you don't read his Theory of Moral Sentiments alongside An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations you're apt to profoundly misunderstand the latter (as, for example, Ayn Rand did). The man was a thoroughgoing liberal and was concerned about the education and well-being of the working classes before Marx or Engels were even born.

How did you put him and Gandi less then 50th??? What were u thinking :^/
I agree with the two comments. This man is easily the first or second most influential man ever. He started fighting for black right but ended up fight for equality for all man. I'm sorry to say this but he has done more for the world than Jesus did. Because what we know of Jesus is not his own words but of other. which in my mind means it is not soild fact.

I'm a great admirer of Mandela, but the question isn't how admirable they are it's how influential they are. He was the figurehead of a movement (which would have existed without him) to end deplorable repression in moderately sized country. He shaped the evolution of the country in so far as he was a voice for racial unity and moderation after the end of apartheid. Those positive trends he inaugurated are now reversing through the ANC of Jacob Zuma, and his contribution to the end of apartheid itself was more symbolic compared to the practical impact of Thabo Mbeki's diplomatic efforts to achieve trade sanctions on the apartheid government. He is a man to be honoured and admired, but his historical influence is dwarfed compared to the likes of Kemal Attaturk or Gandhi or Simon Bolivar or any world historical figure who was more individually influential.
Nelson Mandela should obviously be in at least top 20, if not top 10.

Yeah but he did popularize the notion of an immortal soul which is still extremely prevalent today. He also grasped the idea that the universe can be figured out through mathematics. These two topics themselves are undoubtedly influential to humanity. Furthermore, his philosophy was extremely influential on Plato, and through him, all of western philosophy. And the Pythagorean lifestyle of vegetarianism is also very prevalent in contemporary society. This man is one of the most influential figures of all time in my book.

He is by far the worst president ever. He said he was going to stop all the wars and we are ion more "policing actions" than ever. Solyndra was a scam and fast and furious got innocent people killed. He received more money from wall street than any politician in the past 20 years by a sunlight foundation study. He could have had the whole birth certificate thing resolved the first day if he just handed the paper to the FBI, but no.. Why not? Philip J Berg ,Democrat even sued him on this. Berg is both Clinton"s campaign managers for the Dem party of PA
To "Guest" he did NOT order the troops home, this was G w Bush's timeline, Obama wanted them to stay longer but could not get amnesty for our troops if we stayed.
Whether or not you like him, (I don't) He still is influential.
Hey, he's doing the best he can after the mess Bush created. You try cleaning it up, if you think you can do a better job.
Maybe if he actually did something as president he would be higher on the list! Being the first black prez only gets you so far Barack!
Obama is way more inspiring than some of our past presidents. Unlike George W. Bush, he can actually give an inspirational speech.
"Communist"? You morons. Obama's to the right of Richard Nixon. Stop letting Rush Limbaugh tell you what to think.

In particular, 150 of his surviving treatises concentrate on philosophy and 40 of them concentrate on medicine. His most famous works are The Book of Healing, a vast philosophical and scientific encyclopaedia, and The Canon of Medicine, which was a standard medical text at many medieval universities. The Canon of Medicine was used as a text-book in the universities of Montpellier and Louvain as late as 1650.

Abu Hāmed Mohammad ibn Mohammad al-Ghazzālī (1058 – 1111) (Persian: ابو حامد محمد ابن محمد الغزالی), known as Algazel to the western medieval world, born and died in Tus, in the Khorasan province of Persia (modern day Iran) was a Persian Muslim theologian, jurist, philosopher, and mystic.
Ghazali has sometimes been referred to by historians as the single most influential Muslim after the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Besides his work that successfully changed the course of Islamic philosophy—the early Islamic Neoplatonism developed on the grounds of Hellenistic philosophy, for example, was so successfully refuted by Ghazali that it never recovered—he also brought the orthodox Islam of his time in close contact with Sufism. The orthodox theologians still went their own way, and so did the mystics, but both developed a sense of mutual appreciation which ensured that no sweeping condemnation could be made by one for the practices of the other.
