Born Katharine Houghton Hepburn in 1907 in Connecticut, she was described as the First Lady of Cinema. After graduating college she decided to become an actress and she began performing in Broadway.Her first lead role was an Amazon princess Antiope in "A Warrior's Husband" (1932). After that she received more offers and she was chosen as co-star to John Barrymore in the film A Bill of Divorcement (1932).The film was a blockbuster, and after agreeing to her salary demands, RKO signed her to a contract. She made five films between 1932 and 1934. Morning Glory (1933) was her first won Academy Award. Her fourth, Little Women (1933), was the most successful picture during her time.

With a career total of more than 100 films, Bette changed the way Hollywood looked at actresses. In 1977, she was the first woman to be honored with the American Film Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award. She won the Oscars for the movies: (1935) Dangerous and (1938) Jezebel.

Meryl remembers herself as a child with unflinching honesty: “I was an ugly little kid with a big mouth, an obnoxious show-off.” Even so, she got her first applause by age twelve when she sang “O Holy Night” in French in her school’s Christmas concert. She became interested in acting while a student at Vassar and one year after her graduation she won a three year scholarship at the Yale School of Drama. In 1978 she earned her first nomination in the Oscars for the movie Deer Hunter, the following year 1979, she won his first Oscars for the movie Kramer vs. Kramer and her second winning role was for the movie Sophie's Choice in 1982. Meryl Streep continues to give her audience a top caliber performance in every movie she makes.
