Living in reading pretty much all my life. Not crazy about it but it's home. I think society in general has decayed. No city is without crime. Every day can be a potential bad day. We as people need to change our way of thnking. Wish all this would change over night. All I can do is pray that the future will be better for all. Overall reading is not the worst but it could be better.

Reading is bad. There are a lot of surrounding areas that are alright but Reading is not safe at all. I went to school up there and it is definitely not somewhere I would go without my gun.

NYC is not bad. Im from Newark Nj and have been to all parts of nyc to hang out with family (family in East New York,BK/Bronx River Projects, South Bronx/Spanish Harlem/ and some cousins in Queens but i never see them) and those are really the only bad parts of nyc i've seen and even those wasnt even that bad compared the Newark. But i have also be Syracuse a few times and i have to say overall Syracuse is much worse than NYC. Its not as bad as Newark, Camden, Detroit, Irvington, New Orleans,ect ect.. or even Buffalo (Buffalo is pretty grimey too) but it is still a bad city and much worse overall than nyc and i find it funny that ppl even think nyc is bad lol. I feel you on the "water" problem up in Syracuse we got the same problem here in Nwk, that stuff is crazy.

Honestly... Syracuse? Sure there is a bad part of town and a few gang bangers, but where are there not young punks with something to prove? Most of the houses there are old, some in Poor repair and some beautiful. The nightlife there is more fun than dangerous. With the biggest problem being rowdy infantrymen from nearby Fort Drum (I was one of them). One might call Syracuse a bit seedy or worn down in parts (downright grimy or dirty in the wintertime) but hardly a dangerous place to live. As far as that goes, I've walked through some of the worst parts in the middle of the night without any problem (not that I recommend doing thin, mind you) As far as drugs go they are there just like everywhere else. The city is a hub between the north south east and west of New York, and is thus right in the middle of major northern smuggling routes between NYC, Ottawa, Toronto, and Buffalo. Thus you do have the bad drugs like cocaine, crack and heroine. There is also a healthy cigarette smuggling racket from the US into canada by the indians on the rez. As far as the good drugs, The weed you can find there is above average in quality, well priced and easy to find. I live outside of Baltimore now and can say B-more is way way way more dangerous a place by comparison. I honestly wouldn't hesitate to move back to Syracuse. Oh, did I mention that the surrounding area is an outdoorsman's paradise? Lots of lakes, the adirondak mountains, and plenty of other activities.

how bout this for a fact syracuse new york is in the 98 percentile rank in the state for violent crimes. And 92 percentile for the nation. In other words only 2 percent of the states cities have a higher crime rate.

born in detroit lived in harlem for 12 years an this is my 6 year in syracuse. Syracuse can be a nice place although it reminds me of detroit wht all the vacant buildings. An i can see why people say its bad. The black community is small. I dont even think 30 percent of the cities population. I think its like 145 thousand in the cuse. Anyway all the murders give or take a few are blacks. So here in syracuse when you start talking 20 or better homocides a year. If your black it hits close 2 home. 17 reported murders, 7 missing persons. And 8 people killed while driving out of syracuse limits' but killed in next door towns. Thats really like 32 murders. Although if you are KILLED out side of the city limits. Those murders do not count towards syracuses murder rate. I count the missing persons are murders also. Young black men dont just go missing like that people. Plus syracuse is heavily infested wht italian mafia, irish mobs and not to mention native americans. Its a reservation next door. Get to know what city school life is like, and you won't be surprised by the crime here. Kids learn nothing in school. It is complete day care. Students go to school for the food because parents will not feed them. If the teacher has control 20% of a class, then he or she is a behavioral genius. Studying hard in Rochester city schools will never get anyone a job since America already hates those kids. Selling drugs is the only form of success available to them. Of course, many middle class now face the same treatment after leaving their suburb schools. And then, colleges have convinced them to take out loans they will continue pay a decade after "earning" degree. You may earn a degree, but you will not own it without years of sacrifice after the sacrifice that promised to end all sacrifice. College needs to be free. We need to prevent the US government from spending all our money on rich people. Rich people don't work. Their kids don't work. Their grandkids don't work, et cetera. Ann Arbor is one of the safest places in Southeast Michigan. More crimes are bound to happen less than 5 miles away in Ypsilanti MI. More drug trafficing, Murders, Robbery's etc.

I find it interesting that you say Republicans are to blame because they favor outsourcing. If you look at the government of these cities you will find they are overwhelmingly run by Democrats. I grew up in Flint and you CAN"T win an election as a Republican. Same in Detroit. Same in Saginaw. Democrats run the cities with the highest crime rates. Towns and cities that are massively Republican are some of the nicest, cleanest, safest cities and towns, like where I live now. Grand Rapids, Holland, Grand Haven, MI. Is that merely a coincidence?

I lived in Ypsilanti up to three years ago, just north of dowtown on Washington street. The city is not a war zone, and it doesn't average 5 murders a year. It had 5 murders in 2005, which was a statistical abberation compared to the five years before and since.
