I live in chicago and there are 15 people killed on a average weekend over the summer and even during the week there 8 or 9 people killed. So whoever thinks that Chicago is over rated about its crime then you need to think twice.

ive seen my best friend shot up right infront of me when i was twelve years old, ive had two other friends killed from gang violence here in Detroit. My life i ve been looking back too see whose behind me, ive used to live in chicago, i stayed in compton with some friends for about 2 months, and i come back home and still feel out of place, fear isnt something i really see but when i go outside i cant help but feel it in the air, Detroit isnt a place for a life.

I tell you this much, Chicago is a vacation place for people in Detroit, did you hear what i said CHICAGO is a VACATION PLACE for Detroiters. I grew up in detroit and made it to the south where my family is at. While in detroit my moms struggled to take care of us, our house was shot up and i had to hustle. Detroit is one of those cities, if ur from a decent township and u head out to Detroit and take a drive through it and look left to right as u are driving through it, it kinda makes u put things into perspective. So far as I may not have everything I don't need everything, but the people that live dotted throughout the communitty in some spots have the bare minnimum such as a person sitting on the front porch of a hallowed out home that still has the charred remmains of a fire that could of took place anywhere from the 1960's riots that were so bad that the national gaurd had to pull troops out of Vietnam to maintain the chaos, or it could have been from a moltov cocktail that a gangmember threw into the window just weeks before. Eighther way when u see something like that u know damn well that person has no electricity no water no food no anything, and that is when it comes to a matter of survival like standing out on a street corner selling crack rocks and climbing through somebodys window at three O clock in the morning to loot everything and sell it too a pawn shop to support ur habbit and thats why we have crime like we do a lot of these people are raised in bad ways and they grow up to not know any better than to not give a **** anymore not only that but the educational system as well as the justice system in this country are nothing more than an utter ****ing JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jacksonville is getting worse. Moved here three years ago from NY. When we got here, it was a nice area. Now it is abandoned and getting crazy. I stay on the southside of atlanta. In one of atlantas suburban areas called Clayco. Clayco is home numerous gangs, and the youngsters out here will rob and shoot for an ounce of weed. Atlantas suburbs are actually worse then the citys epicenter. Mainly due to whites moving back to the cities and all the poor blacks taking to the suburbs Clayton and Dekalb county to be exact. Between ClaycCo and Dekalb. Just watch our news channels, shootings, home invasions, kidnappings, and robberies go down all day out here. The news channel and helicoptors have been to my neiborhood like 4 times in one year. One time they found a body in the woods, 2 seperate shootings, and another home invasion shooting. Thats why 48 hours is filming in dekalb county they even said that they got 2 seasons worth of murders ready to air in the time it normally takes to film a half of seasons worth of murders in other cities, and thats Dekalb Co atlantas suburb. It may look nice but a simple run in with a hot head or even a drug deal gone bad could cost u ur life out here.

Pay no attention to statistics in Aurora cause a lot of the hood is in unincorporated Aurora Township so not in the city boundaries proper. Westwood project is one of those places and theyres more crime in those areas than parts of the city itself.

Aurora, Colorado is no picnic either. I lived in both unfortunately. I'll take my chances with Aurora Colo though cause at least there I knew where to avoid the danger. In Aurora, ILL-ANNOY the danger is just so random that you never now where you'll get hit.

Typical day in my city. Guy burns his house down and kills his brother and cousin at the same time. They say it was over drug money and hoes. The zoo is nice and downtown is cleaner but still not super safe or exciting. The mall is still a war zone with Kings and GD fights every night. Most everyone I know is unemployed or workin for pennys. The illegeals sell most of the drugs and shot each other and innocent people. The illegals are the only ones making money in this town cause they smuggle drugs. I had 3 friends get shot and 2 died. 2 more committed suicide. The cops are corrupt. If I had money and didn't have family and friends here I woulda left a long time ago.

First, when did Chicago make the top 5 in the last 20 years. In the last ten years the most murders chicago had for a single year was in 2001 when it had 665 murders. Chicago has a lot of people about 2.8 million. So it murder rate is only about 22 murder per 100k. Dont get me wrong that is a pretty high murder rate for any city and chicago a rough city, but it is no where near the top 5 or even the top 20. Second, Aurora had 15 murders (2000), 8 (2001),25 (2002),13 (2003),17 (2004). Thats an average of 15.6 murder a year for those years. And with the size of Aurora's population thats not that many. Its murder rate for those years per 100k are only: 10.5 (2000), 5.6 (2001), 17.5 (2002), 8.5 (2003), 10.9 (2004). I am not saying Aurora is a very safe city, it just not a very dangerous one. Maybe for your area those are high numbers and it may seem bad there but compared to dozens and dozens of other cities in the US those numbers dont even come close to theirs. With murder rates that low this city should not even be on this list at all. And im pretty sure in the last few years their were even less murders (like in 2008 only 2 murders). So pretty much what i am saying is yes Chicago is a bad city but not as bad as you think compared to other cities like Camden, Detroit, New Orleans, Irvington NJ, Oakland, Gary IN, St. Louis, Flint MI, Richmond Ca, Memphis, Newark, Baltimore, ect ect. And Aurora is definitely no where near those cities! Or even dozens and dozens... and dozens of other cities.

NO not nuff said!... it had 30 murders a long time ago in the early 90's i looked it up.. check wikipedia too.. a lot of bad cities were even worse in the early 90's, the 90's were just a bad time.. but even if you were telling the truth and Aurora did have 30 murders recently, which your not and it didnt. But lets say they did have 30 murders and some point in the, lets give you last 10 years, it would have 30 murders out of a population 170,000 ppl. Thats a per capita murder rate of about 17 murder per 100,000. Thats a pretty high number for an average city but wouldnt even put you in the top 40 worst cities today. Cities like Detroit, Flint, Gary, New Orleans, and Camden,NJ have over 4 times that murder rate per capita. Camden a city with only 80,000 ppl has had years in the last 10 years with over 60 murders a year, thats a per capita murder rate of about 75 murders per 100,000!! Wikipedia says Aurora, IL only had 2 murders as recently as 2007, so stop stating false facts that you are not even close to being correct about. All these cities that i see on this site from some no name town in IL are all making false claims and are all probably from someone who lives in IL trying to make his area sound cool. Because of how false this Aurora, IL post was i decided to look up the stats for all the towns on this site that are from IL. What i found is all of these town are not bad at all! with the exception of Chicago and Cicero, IL and even those two wouldnt be in the top 30 (but they're still bad though). Stop Lieing!!! Don't know where everyone else is getting their info, but I am fairly certain the Northeast and East have the highest murder rate in Houston, followed by the Southeast. Am a single female, born here, lived southwest, central, north, northwest, west. The Astrodome area used to have a gaggle of prostitutes, but haven't seen any in over a decade or more. Have seen corner drug dealers just east of downtown, heard a few gun shots North of N. Shepherd and 43rd, and drove past a body at the curb a block or two from Shepherd and Westhiemer, but that could have been an accidental hit and run. Not much to speak of for nearly 40 years of living here. People here are generally friendly unless they are in a hurry or having a bad hair day lol

Houston is laid back! I've lived here since 2004, and have always felt safe! From what I hear in the 90's it was ruff, but has calmed down substantially since then. I have lived on the Southside of Houston, and from my experience, and observations it's cool. There is a lot of drug activity, but you don't have the violence that typifys other major cities( NJ, Baltimore, Miami, etc). I know drug dealers that don't even carry a gun, and there is no beef over drug territory in the Black Southside hoods. The Northside is a different story though, and is way more hood, and violent than the south. Fortunately, everything in Houston is situated on the southside, so I don't have to venture to that side of town. It seems like every murder they showcase in the " H" is on the northside, ya dig! All in all, I love Houston!!! Grew up in Southern Cali, but Houston is home now. The cost of living is extremely low, and it is relatively safe for a city this large. To be the 4th largest city in America & rank where we are in this list should show that!

Ignorance is the number one killer in Baltimore City. Poor education in our city schools is another one of the many problems that this city faces. A high unemployment rate, immoral police officers, approximately 47, 000 abandoned buildings, functioning drug traps and an attitude of not caring about the community and the people that live in it contributes to the current state and the future of Baltimore City. When will people wake up and ask for help? It is not easy, but change must start within the individual. I am a city school teacher and I am dedicated to helping the youth of this city. Everyday I wake up and go to work hoping that I can be a positive influence for a child and change their life for the better in some way shape or form, even if it is on a small scale. Each adult in the city should do the same. Be a positive influence for the youth of Baltimore City. Be the change you want to see in your city. WAKE UP.

I live in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, sure, we have some crime, most is petty crime. last year, 2012, Denver had 46 homicides--a city with 600,000 population--Tulsa had 54 homicides, for a city of 347,000. It's a great, pleasant, friendly city. Wouldn't live anywhere else.

I've. lived here my whole life and I'm going to be honest. If you live in a suburb like Moore then you be safe. If you live in Oklahoma city stay out these areas if u can: eastside, north highlands, lyrewood, oakcliff and ozone, downtown west of western ave. anything can happen to u in these areas and a couple more. if your not a hothead and don't pick fights gangbang or sell drugs in the good areas you b fine. OKC is a very large city land in respect to land area. The majority of the violent crime is concentrated in a few relatively small areas of the city.

It ALL depends on WHERE you are in St. Louis & what time of day it is as to whether it's "dangerous" or not. This is true of nearly any major metro area. I lived on S. Side for 20 years and was never hurt, mugged, shot, etc. I did get a car stereo stolen a few days before Xmas, but that was it. And I lived within the city limits. And 6 of those years I was a single woman in my 20s living alone, parking on the street at night. I learned a lot of tips for staying street smart & safe. Not sure if I was smart or just lucky. But I'm still here.

I have been living in Saint Louis my whole entire life. It is not as bad as people say. Even though I was raped at 12yrs old I still don't have to walk around with a gun at my waste. Stockton's police force has been cut (budget constraints) and the murders continue on. The city is a cess pool. My daughter was at the Subway at 11:00 a.m. (on Pacific) and it was robbed at gun point by some tweaked out kid. People are shot in drive bys on West Lane. I would never live in Stockton again even if someone gave me a million dollars.

Nashville is getting crappy although our police seem to care about doing something about it. Burglary is up 29% since the downturn in the economy. Even the expensive areas have been hit (thieves love those areas). Got updates to my security system after someone broke in (they know they have about 10 minutes with the alarm goes off). The ADT guy says they have been busy lately.

South Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Jenks & Owasso are pretty safe and nice area's to live. Stay off of South Peoria and your okay too. Noth side, East side & West side respectively are hardcore. From dusk to dawn stay away from those area's if you don't want to be robbed, shot and raped!

I am a woman who lives in mobile and was born and raised here also. Mobile has very, very few safe, clean areas to live. I don't live in a necessarily bad area but a somewhat populated area and i don't even like to walk to my car after dark. And absolutely won't go to any store by myself after dark. There are several murders weekly not even counting the shootings that i hear in my neighborhood on a regular basis. Although there are some beautiful places to hang in mobile, i would suggest using a GPS or MapQuest to ensure you get where you're trying to go..

I've been living in NOVA my whole life and am always in DC and have never had any problems at all. Now if you out on street and have and acting like you scared or don't have any street sense you draw attention from people that prey on easy targets. SE is most dangerous even though Trinidad NE and Lincoln Heights NE is pretty close but PG county MD is more dangerous than DC on a whole. For most part DC is a great city to visit or live. City government robs more people than residents do. Parking tickets from $20-$150 is most common robbing. 600,000 people live there plus a few 100,000 or visitors everyday with no parking spots is worse part. You will get a ticket sometimes even when in legal spot but see VA tag and they know its going to be $20 in gas to go to court and back not including missing work to go to court so its cheaper to just pay the $20 ticket. That's where I get robbed not by the civilians and we all know how much the politicians steal from tax money. I feel DC is much safer than Richmond, Va or Baltimore, Md plus the federal law makes it much better on some things than any city. I now live in Little Rock and kept hearing about how horible this place is. It appears to have a murder rate 3 to 4 times higher than average but the population is approx 200K with a large portion of that as minorities to which the murder rate is focused. Having lived in Memphis, Boston, and Chicago I am not intemidated. The ghettos as stated above is not much at all...doesn't even come close to Chicago or Memphis. You just have to know your surrondings at all times but that is common sense in cities.

I visited Philly in 08 for the Penn relays, and this is the only city where I have ever felt unsafe! I wish I could have brought my heat! The streets are filthy, goons everywhere, prostitutes, drugs, and did I say goons everywhere? Lol. I went there solo, which I am accustomed to traveling solo, and I ran to my car every night. The streets look like something out of a batman movie. I had fun, and met some fly females, and a couple of cool brothers. But you can feel the imminent danger in the air! I think the only reason no real funk popped off is because the goons were pre occupied with the Penn relay parties, and festivities. Even though this club I went to that had metal detectors had a couple of beat downs occur! I'm not saying I would never go back. If they held a major event like all star weekend or superbowl I would go back, but it's my least favorite city that I have been too, and I have been to a lot of major cities!

In my adult life, I have never felt as unsafe as I did in that city. In the Love Park, in broad daylight on a Saturday afternoon, my friend and I had to basically run out of the park in fear for our lives. It is also filthy - trash everywhere.

Irvington is crazy.. makes Newark look nice and Newark is bad as hell! Irvington, Camden, Detroit are definitely the worst places i ever been to followed by Newark, Oakland/Richmond CA, San Juan Puerto Rico, Memphis (in some parts), New Orleans, Baltimore, Trenton, and Hartford. Atlanta and Compton didnt really seem extremly bad compared to a lot of the places i've seen but i was only there at those two place in the day time, im sure its much worse at night (Compton looked like a nice suburb though). Most of the other places on this list i havent been to so i cant coment on them. Detroit had some nice parts too. Camden and Irvington have like one or two nice blocks in the whole city. Too many murders in Irvington and they need clean all the trash on the streets and knock down and rebuild all the burnt down and vacant house's, same for Camden.

Irvington only has 70,000 ppl which is 5,000 ppl short of the 75,000 needed to make the list that come out every year. Most years its worse than even Camden but definitly would make the top 10 every year if it had a lil more ppl.
