The human body can go without food for about thirty days, but it can only go without water for up to seven. Water, therefore, is probably the most important staple to have on hand in an emergency cupboard.

Chocolate, cookies, it is good to have some sort of "fun" food on hand so that children, especially small children, will not feel as if it is the end of the world.

sturdy rope Report Abuse
Very important. 550 paracord is the best choice, but at least 20 feet of sturdy rope is important to tie down garbage cans, lawn chairs, and other things if unable to bring inside before a wind storm. Look up some basic knots on the internet, a simple shoe lace knot will not work.
