Large area to walk and lot species to see (many of the on the red list) in "natural" environement. Bravo to all guys who helped to save this zoo 10 years ago when Prague was flooded out. Entry only for 8 € for an adult. Definitively my favorite one.
Awesome zoo, defenitly one of the best. Africa from Near, the gharial pavilion, Indonesian Jungle and the Giraffe house are some of the best exhibits in European zoos. Also a lot of rare species, like ratel, elephant shrew, ferret badger, brown hyena, gharial and shoebill stork. VISIT IT!

One of the most impressive zoo in the world.
Much more to see than you can actually do.....
Did I say " Pandas" ......?
10.
Probably the best zoo of the Netherlands. Some great exhibits like Tamah Indah (elephants, tapirs, rhino's and others), The Oceanium and the ''Rivierahal''. Some great species like Komodo dragons, Francois langurs, puffins, amur leopards, rusty spotted cats and civets.
11.
It's by far the best zoo I have ever been to. Opened just a few years ago and it houses only african animals, but WHAT a collection and a setting. When walking around the zoo you can almost forget that you are in the middle of a large european city and not in africa. There are no walls and cages, it's all wáter moats and glasses and has a fantastic collection of african flora. Don't miss the central savanna exibit, the crocodile and hippo cave and the lémur island!! Negative point: a bit expensive, but still worth it.

Comments:
To put Copenhagen ZOO as low as #11 is a big mistake.. A massive effort have been made to recreate the animals natural habitats and the animals are fed in a natual way also. #2 in Europe after Berlin ZOO imho.
There is a pretty cool Arctic World where you can watch polar bears and seals swim under water. And its the only zoo in Europe to have Tasmanian devils! Funny enough you get a great view of Norman Fosters designer elephant habitat from the park next to the zoo - for free
13.
Opened in 1770 and moved to its current location in Madrid's largest park (Casa de Campo) in the 70s. The zoo has an impressive collection of animals, over 6,000 animals of more tan 500 species, including Giant Pandas, Koalas, Dolphins, Red Pandas, Orangutans, and Western Lowland Gorillas, as well asthe usual animals found in most zoos (elephants, lions, tigers, cheetahs, hyenas, hipos, indian rhinos, white rhinos, giraffes etc.). The aquarium boasts a huge collection, including a large tank with sharks.
In 1978 China presented the King of Spain with two giant pandas, Shao Shao and Quian Quiang. Their cub, Chu-lin, born in 1982 died in 1996. Chu-lin was the first panda born in captivity using artificial insemination in Europe. The zoo is now home to giant pandas Bing Xing (M) and Hua Zui Ba (F), who arrived in Madrid on 8 September 2007 and their cubs born September 2010.
Comments:

14.
Slowly growing in the last 20 years, so not the biggest collection, but they're getting there. Very beautiful park and scenery.
15.
It is best known for its reptile exhibits, which are displayed in a very unusual way, using cold barrier. Antwerpen zoo has over 950 different species of animals including quite a few very rare animals like white rhino.
Comments:
Great city zoo, although some enclosures aren't to great for the animals. One of the best reptile houses of Europe. Great Subantarctic penguin enclosure. Nice Nocturnal house. Lots of history to be found here too. Biggest con; big cat enclosures
16.
This zoo has a remarkable amount of rare animals including Sumatra Tiger, Sri Lanka Leopard, Anteater, Black Vulture and many more.

Comments:
The best zoo in the country. It has modern and enriching enclosures. It also houses a wide range of animals e.g lions, elephants, Komodo dragons, tigers, ourangutans, chimps, bears and cheaters. There are plenty of other things to do such as play parks, shops and the train ride. The zoo is 50 yets old this year so when better to go.

At Lisbon Zoo, you will travel around the world without leaving Lisbon.
Go to California and kiss a sea lion, pass through Cuba and feel the skin of a snake, and be sure to go sailing in the ocean to watch the dolphins.
In the African route, meet the gorillas and chimpanzees. Visit the elephants and the giraffes in the savannah. Watch the pelicans feeding between Africa and Asia. Hide in the forest to observe the okapis and explore Madagascar to find lemurs.
Back to Portugal, visit the Children's Farm and learn all about domestic animals. Be amazed by the view from the cable car and take a ride in the Zoo train.
All with the promise of an unforgettable day spent in the centre of Lisbon!

The Munich Zoo Hellabrunn was founded in 1911 as the first Geo-zoo worldwide. The animals live according to their geographic distribution in complex communities. If you follow the icons you will travel around the world and experience our different habitats.
Hellabrunn is not a zoo in the classical sense. It is more of a nature preserve within the landscape conservation area of the Isar meadows inhabited by animals that live in especially large, structured enclosures. Thanks to an extensive array of ditches and a natural landscape design, the visitor can enjoy the wonderful and unobstructed view of animals that could normally only be obtained on safari.

26.
It is quite small and peaceful zoo, which isn't located far from city center. It also has a mindblowing collection of butterflies, which are kept in the butterfly house.
Comments:
Quite possibly the worst zoo in a developed European country and easily the worst in the Netherlands. Many exhibit are excactly the same as in 1910 and unfortunately the welfare and enrichment is therefore the same. The butterfly house is one of the few good things.
27.
Fantastic place with a lot of animals. There are lions, tigers, bears, giraffes. There are also domestic animals and tropic house.
28.
