It is preposterous to think that Mahovlich was better than Bobby Hull. Playing in the same era, Hull was First team All-NHL 10 times, won the Hart twice and the Art Ross 3 times. The Big M was First team All-NHL only twice and never won a Hart or Art Ross.

Very classy 9 time (not just 8) NHL All Star team & Hall of Famer . Great ambassador for the Sport of Ice Hockey Assisted on Gordie Howe's 700th goal, Jean Beliveau's 500th set record for both goals & points for playoffs in 1970--71

I saw the :Golden Jet" and the "Big M" as well as "Ovie" play during their prime. As impressive as the other two were nobody was as explosive as Mahovlich when he would rush down the left wing and let a lethal slap shot go at the opposing goalie.

Only two players have been selected to the NHL All Star team for 3 or more cities- Wayne Gretzky and Frank Mahovlich ." The Great One" for Edmonton, Los Angeles and the New York Rangers whereas The "Big M" represented Toronto, Detroit and the Montreal Canadians. Mahovlich solidified his place as the greatest left winger of all time" when he played for the "Team of the Century that won the "1972 Summit Series" for Canada defeating the Soviets.

No question that he is the all time best Russian offensive left winger during the regular NHL season

Ovie has more silverware but is a dud when the playoffs come along
Added 7 years ago by guest, -2 points Vote + to improve this comment's ranking Vote - to decrease this comment's ranking
Two seasons in hockey regular and playoffs Ovie never won a Stanley cup. Even thou Dionne scored 200 more goals than Beliveau during the regular season nobody would say he is better than the great Canadien.

Hockey is a team sport the goal of which is to win a Stanley Cup. Bobby Hull only won one. Frank Mahovlich beat Bobby Hull for the Calder Cup and then won 6 the most Stanley Cups (tied with Dickie Moore ) by a left Winger. Mahovlich not only set records for the most goals and points in the playoffs in 1971 but killed penalties .

As a Detroit Red Wing fan, I can tell you that Bobby Hull was, by far, the best left wing to ever play the game. He was lightning and thunder with explosive power and a shot that scared goalies. Frank Mahovlich was the second best ever and Ted Lindsay third. No one playing today is even close.

Don't forget that Hull also won three Art Ross trophies for leading the league in scoring and was the top goal scorer seven times in the NHL

Won three scoring titles too. One of the five greatest players of all time. Scored 303 more goals in the WHL., including 77 goals and 65 assists in 1975 when he was 36 years old.

Johnny Bucyk Report Abuse
"Chief" - Bruins all-time leader in goals (545, 556 career goals in total). 1,540 NHL games from 1955 to 1978. Scored 51 goals at age 35 in 1970-71. Captained the Bruins for 5 seasons. Good defensively, tough as nails, one of the best all-round players of his era. How he's not already listed is beyond ridiculous. He's a top 5 or so LW ever to play
