Oh dear no. Did you know the #1 choice here annoyed the hell out of the #6 choice (Ms. Ball) when she took her comedy class back in the 1970's? All she had going for her was a wacky demeanor and a 'fro.

If more post-baby-boomers knew of her, she'd be #1 on this list. She could work a crowd like nobody else, and could probably have made reading the phone book funny. Look her up.

Forget Ellen, Rosie, and Wanda. This stand-up artist has "out" from DAY ONE in her career, and as a result was more naturally funny than all the others. Her comedy CD "Nothing In My Closet But My Clothes" proved her to be a gifted storyteller. She deserves greater recognition as a GLBT pioneer in comedy.

Lucille Ball Report Abuse
Star of "I Love Lucy" Lucille Ball is the woman who will always be remembered as the crazy, accident-prone, lovable Lucy Ricardo.

Simply the best ever, regardless of how this silly poll ranks her. She didn't have to use foul language and sexual jokes like today's "talents" have to in order to get a laugh. There will never be another like her again!

Even those closest to Lucy would not call her a "comedian". She herself said she was not funny. She was a terrific actor who could milk every drop of comedy out of a line; but, like Monroe, she needed a script. IMO to be a "top comedian" you should be funny right out of the gate.

Kathy Griffin Report Abuse
Arguably the biggest name in sand-up (male or female) of the 2000's and 2010's, with year-round touring, comedy CD's, a talk show on Bravo (spun off from her popular reality show), Emmy wins and Grammy nominations to boot. Does best as a storyteller, worst when descending into commentary on universally-loathed reality show "stars".

Her eponymous 1985 Broadway show remains a tour-de-force essential. (And it has aged well). For that reason alone deserves to be on this list. Trivia: Appeared in more films in the 1990's than any other female film star.
