Messerschmidt Me 262
First jet fighter. He was far superior to any allied airplanes in WW II. Available already in 1941. Had the Germans produced them in bigger numbers the allies could never have had the supremacy in the air. But the Nazis did favor other airplanes, because in their ignorance they thought the war would soon be over. War production of air fighters did not start in Germany befofre 1944. Then it was too late.

The Arrow and Arrow 2 were only rated for mach 1.9 but one did manage mach 1.89 for a short period.
This was not the fastest at the time. They were closed down for lack of range by the Canadian Chiefs of Staff, not the USA.

SR=stealth reconnaissance.
How can you really list ANYTHING above the F-22?! There is nothing in the world that can outperform an F-22. The F-15 is ranked #1 on here, but the F-22 was designed to replace the F-15, which it has.

The YF-12 "Blackbird" was an experimental fighter-interceptor version of the Lockheed A-12 design and more especially the similar A-12 aircraft, which had a lower radar cross section. In Air Force flight tests on May 1, 1965, the YF-12 set a speed record of 2,070.101 mph and an altitude record of 80,258 feet. It was never accepted as an operational aircraft--but it could have. If it had had anything to try to fight at Mach 3+

Canada made faster but USA fired all Avro's workers and told them to destroy all prototypes. Then USA were glad that Canada was out of the race and made the SR-71 and bragged that they made the fastest. Well, Canada made the Avro Arrow.

There must be a missunderstanding. The Me 109 was a good fighter, but the British Spitfire was better. And later the Us-fighters were much superior. The German Me 262 was the best fighter of WWII. But they did not produce significant numbers.
