Al Capone Report Abuse
One of the most successful white collar criminals in American History, "Scarface", as he was known, ruled Chicago in the 1920s and 30s thanks in part to his complete control over the illegal alcohol market. Best known for his giant ego and lavish lifestyle, Capone was famous for flaunting his ill gotten wealth in the face of local law enforcement and maintained a public persona as a wealthy, philanthropic businessman.

So, Had Caponoe never did time for tax evasion after all he did to own Chitown, Would you still consider Anthony Accardo number 1? I doubt it. People learn from others and thats how this went. Capone was the teacher.Anthony Accardo was his best student

I gotta say, as far as the chicago mob, Capone was the king. Others may have run that city longer, some may have made more money, and some other bosses may have made more cash, but no one ran that city quite like Capone. He had every law enforcement official in his pocket, he owned most of the city government, he gave payoffs to every politician. And if anyone complained, they got hit so hard that believe me, they never complained again.

parlier2007, you have no idea what you are talking about. Capone was the boss for only 6 years. During then he made a sh*& load of money but the real #1 can only be "The Genuine Godfather - Anthony Accardo. He was boss for over 50 years, yes 50 years after Capone and NEVER spent 1 day in jail for any reason. He died of natural causes and is by far the greatest none known gangster ever. You need to research a little more and not be on the bandwagon...

Why is this man not # 1, Luciano worked for Capone for f##k sakes! No mobster in the history of our nation was more brutally violent, effective, powerful, and clearly in charge. He ran the roost, was the big dog,and it was his f##king yard. Al Capone was THE ORIGINAL GANGSTER! He was so bada##, they only thing they could finally nail him on was tax evasion! No other gangster in history can brag that brag. Now stick that in your pipe and smoke it!! FYI Capone preferred Cuban cigars. So I say again, why is this man not #1? Because technically he is. Always imitated, never duplicated.

Lucky Luciano Report Abuse
Born Salvatore Lucania, a poor street urchin in Sicily, Charles "Lucky" Luciano is considered the most successful gangster of all time and did more to change the business of organized crime than any other man. In the 1930s Luciano wiped out the old, traditional Sicilian mafia and began a national, American crime syndicate made up of hundreds of ethnic gangs. Under his guidance, the mafia began to operate much like an international business and his acumen and organization are largely credited for allowing the mafia to rule over the American crime for half a century.

not to be mean here but if capone and lucaino worked together than quite obviously luciano learned way more than a thing or 2 from capone. point being, capone wouldve kiked his ass because he would know his every move

Luciano kicks capone in the nuts and to everyone who says that luciano worked for capone no wasn't the case they worked together with one another luciano is credited with the founding of the american mafia which dominated this countries crime for over 50 years!! Not only that but he was the creator of 5 of the biggest and most feared crime families in america definetly deserves to be number one

Hey, he started out inexperienced, but he learned fast, and was a smart guy. He started the five families in new york. Yah, those five families. He also started the gang that later became the Genovese family. The Genovese family was considered the most powerful crew in America for a long time.

John Dillinger Report Abuse
125 points - added 2 years ago by guest - 2 comments
Comments:
Theres Bank robbers, and then theres Dillinger. This man strategically planned and executed the robbing of 4 banks in a row in the same city. He was able to calculate and track where patrols were and what roads they would use so that by the time the cops arrived at the scene of the first bank they would already be in the middle of robbing the next...and once the cops got the word the second bank was hit, they would already be driving up to the next one...Not to mention the fact that he was able to escape a high security prison just by using a bar of soap he carved to look like a gun.

Well, remember not only the colombian Goverment was trying to handle him, there was something called "Search Block" that was a group with Colombians and USA members just to find and kill him, they intercepted every call and every contact from him and offering a LOT of money for information about him. That didnt happened with most of the other mafious above.

well he didnt survive that long with that amount of money. and this guy became strong because the colombian government couldnt handle him because the half of the government was corrupt. it is true he was the richest but hey who ended up shot dead on a rooftop. pablo escobar isnt to be compared with the mafia. he had the billions but those didnt save him from the government. the mafia was just smarter with handling the government

Jesse james Report Abuse
Jesse James (September 5, 1847 – April 3, 1882) was an American outlaw, gang leader, bank robber, train robber, and murderer from the state of Missouri and the most famous member of the James-Younger Gang. Already a celebrity when he was alive, he became a legendary figure of the Wild West after his death. Some recent scholars place him in the context of regional insurgencies of ex-Confederates following the American Civil War rather than a manifestation of frontier lawlessness or economic justice.[1] Jesse and his brother Frank James were Confederate guerrillas during the Civil War. They were accused of participating in atrocities committed against Union soldiers. After the war, as members of one gang or another, they robbed banks, stagecoaches, and trains. Despite popular portrayals of James as a kind of Robin Hood, robbing from the rich and giving to the poor, there is no evidence that he and his gang used their robbery gains for anyone but themselves.[2] The James brothers were most active with their gang from about 1866 until 1876, when their attempted robbery of a bank in Northfield, Minnesota, resulted in the capture or deaths of several members. They continued in crime for several years, recruiting new members, but were under increasing pressure from law enforcement. On April 3, 1882, Jesse James was killed by Robert Ford, who was a member of the gang living in the James house and who was hoping to collect a state reward on James' head.

My guess it had a lot to with property . He stood for the weak. He stole from the rail roads not the people. Remember the rail road company TOOK peoples property for pennies at best whether they wanted to sell or not.

Frank Costello Report Abuse
38 points - added 3 years ago by pxc0 - 2 comments
Comments:
The character of "Vito Corleone" in the book and 1972 film The Godfather is based on a composite of mid-20th Century New York Mafia figures, perhaps chief among them Frank Costello. The Corleone character featured similar mannerisms (including a raspy voice) and political connections, as well as many events from his real life. (Like Costello, Don Corleone voices disapproval of the drug traffic, which he labels a "dirty business"). Marlon Brando, who played Corleone, apparently used tapes of Costello from the Kefauver hearings as the basis for the character's accent.

Frank Costello (born Francesco Castiglia; January 26, 1891 – February 18, 1973) was an Italian New York City gangster who rose to the top of America's underworld, controlled a vast gambling empire across the United States and enjoyed political influence. Nicknamed the "Prime Minister of the Underworld", he became one of the most powerful and influential Mafia bosses in American history, eventually leading the Luciano crime family (later called the Genovese crime family).

Nothing but a two-bit punk thug who lucked and murdered his way to the top. Not a very bright person, it's no wonder he ended up dying in prison. One gets what one deserves.....

Ronnie Kray Report Abuse
With his twin brother Reggie Kray Ronnie was one of the most notorious and feared gangsters that London has ever seen, It is thanks to him that the mad axeman frank Mitchell was shot in the back seat of a car, although he has always denied it,the order to kill had most certainly come from Ronnie not Reggie. Ronnie did the unthinkable, he shot George Cornell at point blank in the blind beggars pub, it was late at nigh when the trigger was pulled but many people were drinking there when it happened although they were all to afraid to talk to the police about what they had seen. Of the two Ron was much more violent than Reg was, he defeated a famous boxer, shot a man in a local pub, stuck a sword through someones hand in a public snooker club and carved a smile into a mans face with a sword, i cant go on with how much more he has done, i dont have enough room!

the krays never even got to see the film, and 75% of it was balls, i agree that who write this is goin by the film not the real krays, they were good boxers but reg was the betta 1 with a calmer temper ronnie was still a gent and were both generous men, we need people like them 2day, legends

You took most of this from the movie not all the Movie it true if you read the Krays books you would know that. And Reggie was the better Gangster he was smarter had less of a temper Reggie took the Krays bussiness to the top and could have made them bigger if it wasent for Ronnie's temper.

Dave Courtney Report Abuse
Because Dave insulted one of the all time most famous gangsters named mad Frankie Fraser. He became known as a good guy for the one reason that every street he has lived on, no one has ever robbed them while he was still there because Dave would hurt them and other criminals knew that. He was a gangster from just twelve years old when he threw a pathing slat at another kids head, he was eventually grassed up by his so called friend.

Donal Duck could be a very mean character when things didn't go his way. There was the time that Goofy wanted lead billing on all Disney cartoons. This incensed Donald and Goofy was never able to talk clearly again.
