Jorge Alberto Rodriguez Report Abuse
Jorge is the son of Cali Cartel founder, Gilberto Rodriguez Orejuela. He was responsible for 90 percent of all narcotics entering the United States before his 1990 arrest. Reference: 891 Federal Reporter 2d, 1199. Jorge went to trial and refused to testify against anyone. He was initially sentenced to 25 years imprisonment. Due to legal technicalities he was released after serving 12 years. The government never found his wealth, reported to be in the billions. Young, smart, loyal and dangerous, now free living in New York, makes him one of the baddest living gangsters of our time

Lucky Luciano Report Abuse
Born Salvatore Lucania, a poor street urchin in Sicily, Charles "Lucky" Luciano is considered the most successful gangster of all time and did more to change the business of organized crime than any other man. In the 1930s Luciano wiped out the old, traditional Sicilian mafia and began a national, American crime syndicate made up of hundreds of ethnic gangs. Under his guidance, the mafia began to operate much like an international business and his acumen and organization are largely credited for allowing the mafia to rule over the American crime for half a century.

Gotti was a nowhere near a good mobster, way to flashy. Tony Accardo is definitely up there, if not #1.

Lucky created the Commission, which allowed Organized Crime to grow. He managed an empire that was bigger than General Motors at over $40 billion/year in business. Capone was nothing in comparison and Gotti was great for TV, but the Gambino family was a fraction of the power at that time that Luciano held. Carlo Gambino as a #2 is hard to argue with, but Capone and Gotti, were great for headlines, but probably not in the 10 5 maybe not even in the top 10 as far as impact on the real business of Organized Crime.

Johnny Torrio was the teacher and rolel model of Al Capone and also to Lucky luciano. Torrio was much older then Al and Lucky so he was adviser of Al and Lucky for many years. Johnny formed the Chicago mob and then give it to Al and also he was latter a adviser of Lucky Luciano and Frank Costello. Paul Kelly was also very important boss in his days, but people today know only about Al Capone and Lucky Luciano.

Lucky never worked FOR Capone. They didn't really WITH each other that often. By 1920 when prohibition started, Al Capone had already made his way out to Chicago to work for Johnny Torrio. Even before he left for Chicago, Capone was the muscle for a Brooklyn group leader in the Masseria Family named, Frankie Yale (Francesco Ioele). Now, Capone was originally from Brooklyn. Lucky and most of his early allies were from the Lower East Side of Manhattan, East Harlem, and the Bronx (with the exception of Joe Adonis). Maybe they did a few robberies together but Charles "Lucky" Luciano-considered to be the father of American Organized Crime- has NEVER worked for Alphonse Capone!

Lucky was ruthless. He was also very ambitious. But his true success came from the qualities that most of his peers lacked: staying calm; the ability to read people quite accurately; and most importantly he was a Sicilian with Jewish, Irish, French, Spanish, Black, and Italian non-Sicilian connections

Masseria didn't create the five families; nor did he divide New York City's territories. Before October 1931, New York was already divided into 5 separate, and independent gangs. After Masseria was killed 4/15/31, his rival, Salvatore Maranzano organized the 5 "Families" of New York City a month later

by the way adding on to what i just posted by the time luciano and the others got to the offshore accounts they found a sum of approx 500 grand (thats a good reason to make a hit)
Added 11 years ago by guest, -1 points Vote + to improve this comment's ranking Vote - to decrease this comment's ranking
it was luciano along with other gangsters who made the hit on bugsy. they all met in havana, cuba making sure to not invite bugsy (even sinatra was there) luciano and the others let bugsy run the business of the flamingo but later found out that bugsy was sending his girlfriend, virginia hill to europe putting some of the flamingo profits in offshore bank accounts thats why they did the hit ;)

He didn't start the five families.... He started the commission.. Masseria divided the territories and created the families
Added 11 years ago by guest, -1 points Vote + to improve this comment's ranking Vote - to decrease this comment's ranking
I also read that it was Luciano that hired Bugsy Seigel as a kid to pick up prostitutes. It is believed that Lucky got tired of Bugsy's promise of the Flamingo Hotel turning profit, and sent men to make the hit on Bugsy, who was murdered in his girlfriend's home. It might have been Luciano himself that made the hit.

not to be mean here but if capone and lucaino worked together than quite obviously luciano learned way more than a thing or 2 from capone. point being, capone wouldve kiked his ass because he would know his every move

Ok so why isn't this man number one?? Luciano kicks capone in the nuts and to everyone who says that luciano worked for capone no wasn't the case they worked together with one another luciano is credited with the founding of the american mafia which dominated this countries crime for over 50 years!! Not only that but he was the creator of 5 of the biggest and most feared crime families in america definetly deserves to be number one

Hey, he started out inexperienced, but he learned fast, and was a smart guy. He started the five families in new york. Yah, those five families. He also started the gang that later became the Genovese family. The Genovese family was considered the most powerful crew in America for a long time.

Al Capone Report Abuse
One of the most successful white collar criminals in American History, "Scarface", as he was known, ruled Chicago in the 1920s and 30s thanks in part to his complete control over the illegal alcohol market. Best known for his giant ego and lavish lifestyle, Capone was famous for flaunting his ill gotten wealth in the face of local law enforcement and maintained a public persona as a wealthy, philanthropic businessman.

Capone was never lucky's boss and in fact it was lucky and few other New York mobsters who told Capone during the A.C conference that he needed to go to jail. What boss lets another tell him to go to jail. Capone was an extension of the New York mob. He was always uncomfortable visiting NY and knew when to listen.

Most comments here say accardo was taught everything by Capone but where did Capone get his start? It was johnny torrio who got Capone to move to Chicago and took Capone under his wing! It was widely said accardo has more brains at breakfast then Capone had all day!so of course accardo would learn off Capone to be quiet and stay out of the limelight and things would run smooth.

I gotta say, as far as the chicago mob, Capone was the king. Others may have run that city longer, some may have made more money, and some other bosses may have made more cash, but no one ran that city quite like Capone. He had every law enforcement official in his pocket, he owned most of the city government, he gave payoffs to every politician. And if anyone complained, they got hit so hard that believe me, they never complained again.

He was boss for over 50 years, yes 50 years after Capone and NEVER spent 1 day in jail for any reason. He died of natural causes and is by far the greatest none known gangster ever. Why is this man not # 1, Luciano worked for Capone for f##k sakes! No mobster in the history of our nation was more brutally violent, effective, powerful, and clearly in charge. He ran the roost, was the big dog,and it was his f##king yard. Al Capone was THE ORIGINAL GANGSTER! He was so bada##, they only thing they could finally nail him on was tax evasion! No other gangster in history can brag that brag. Now stick that in your pipe and smoke it!! FYI Capone preferred Cuban cigars. So I say again, why is this man not #1? Because technically he is. Always imitated, never duplicated.

Pablo Escobar Report Abuse
Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria was a Colombian drug lord and leader of one of the most powerful criminal organizations ever assembled. During the height of his power in the 1980’s, he controlled a vast empire of drugs and murder that covered the globe. He made billions of dollars, ordered the murder of hundreds if not thousands of people, and ruled over a personal empire of mansions, airplanes, a private zoo and even his own army of soldiers and hardened criminals.

Pablo Escobar should be number 1. This man was the devil himself. The Colombian people were scared to go out of their houses in the 80s because no one ever knew when a bomb would go off. This man was able to make anyone do what he wanted. His most famous tactic was to kidnap the person's family and then make that person do whatever he wanted or all that parson's family would die. This man almost killed my parents, 2 uncles, and 3 grandparents in different situations with bombs going off. This man attacked the people in the most unexpected times.

Escobar is perhaps the most notorious drug lord of the planet ever. He ran the Medellin Cartel which imported billions of dollars of cocaine into the United States. Pablo’s money brought him great power as we was able to bribe officials or have them killed if they wouldn’t take his bribes. Forbes Magazine named Escobar the 7th richest man in the world with a net worth of $25 Billion in the 1980s.

Any father that is willing to use his kid and put them in danger to save his own selfish butt is a TOTAL turd. I am a Junior working on my Bachelor's degree in Criminology, and the police did a GREAT job keeping this puke out of America. Imagine the Hell that would have ensued if he was able to market his drugs and build an empire here in the States. Thank the Lord that did not happen.

That didnt happened with most of the other mafious above.

How can there be so many idiots to believe such a ridiculous myth. Gambino did 22 months in prison during his mid 30s, only escaped another 2 year conviction since it was overturned by an illegal wiretap, and was facing a criminal trial for hijacking and a supreme court uphold for deportation at the same time from 1970 til his death. Both the trial and the deportation were only delayed due to his awful health of severe heart attacks. If you're going to idolize somewhat, at least live in reality.

Meyer Lansky Report Abuse
Born Majer Suchowlinski on July 4, 1902 in Grodno, Poland, Lanksy formed the Five Points Gang in the 20s with Bugsy Seigel and Lucky Luciano. Lansky is considered one of the sharpest minds in organized crime, earning over an estimated 400 million for the mafia throughout his career. Despite his huge influence Lansky never wanted to be a Boss, preferring to maintain a low profile to avoid attention.

the key to tony acardo not being locked up was he flew below the radar. he didnt draw atention to himself he was not flashy and lived simple. he was brought in front of a congresional hearing and asked about his in com. he was asked what he put on his tax return for in com he said misselanias. it got a laugh. they asked him what he did as a good citezen , he said i pay my tax. it got more laughs. so flying under the radar is probably the best lesson as a gangster you can see it does work .i havent heard anything bad about tony so he was probably a good Boss.

john dillinger was not a common bank robber. he was a genius at planing things out before doing them. he was actualy the most profitable bank robber during that time. he was knocking down banks for thousands of dollars at a time and getting away with it. he was good at what he did and it showed. he just got to relaxed and let his guard down and got blind sided . if he could have seen what was going on behind his back he probably would still be around. but s@t happens R.I.P john D.

Theres Bank robbers, and then theres Dillinger. This man strategically planned and executed the robbing of 4 banks in a row in the same city. He was able to calculate and track where patrols were and what roads they would use so that by the time the cops arrived at the scene of the first bank they would already be in the middle of robbing the next...and once the cops got the word the second bank was hit, they would already be driving up to the next one...Not to mention the fact that he was able to escape a high security prison just by using a bar of soap he carved to look like a gun.

Jesse james Report Abuse
Jesse James (September 5, 1847 – April 3, 1882) was an American outlaw, gang leader, bank robber, train robber, and murderer from the state of Missouri and the most famous member of the James-Younger Gang. Already a celebrity when he was alive, he became a legendary figure of the Wild West after his death. Some recent scholars place him in the context of regional insurgencies of ex-Confederates following the American Civil War rather than a manifestation of frontier lawlessness or economic justice.[1] Jesse and his brother Frank James were Confederate guerrillas during the Civil War. They were accused of participating in atrocities committed against Union soldiers. After the war, as members of one gang or another, they robbed banks, stagecoaches, and trains. Despite popular portrayals of James as a kind of Robin Hood, robbing from the rich and giving to the poor, there is no evidence that he and his gang used their robbery gains for anyone but themselves.[2] The James brothers were most active with their gang from about 1866 until 1876, when their attempted robbery of a bank in Northfield, Minnesota, resulted in the capture or deaths of several members. They continued in crime for several years, recruiting new members, but were under increasing pressure from law enforcement. On April 3, 1882, Jesse James was killed by Robert Ford, who was a member of the gang living in the James house and who was hoping to collect a state reward on James' head.

sounds like some of you dont know what your talking about when it comes to frank lucas. he said in his own words that he snitched out his own family to get a reduced sentence . the group called the country boys was made up of his cousins from down south and he rated them out along with his cousin who was helping him ship that junk from vietnam. he he told the detective everything they wrote a book togather and thats how his movie american gangster got made. he did an episode of american gangster for a/e television where he tells all of this in his own words.and he pissed of bumpy johnsons wife becouse he was making his relationship with bumpy more than what she said it was. he wasnt as close to bumpy like he claims and she publicly denies the closeness he said he and bumpy was. other people that were there say frank embellished the facts about his life as a drug kingpin. and that nicky Barnes was no#1 in harlem not frank.. i just go by franks own words so thats all i got to say about that.

The character of "Vito Corleone" in the book and 1972 film The Godfather is based on a composite of mid-20th Century New York Mafia figures, perhaps chief among them Frank Costello. The Corleone character featured similar mannerisms (including a raspy voice) and political connections, as well as many events from his real life. (Like Costello, Don Corleone voices disapproval of the drug traffic, which he labels a "dirty business"). Marlon Brando, who played Corleone, apparently used tapes of Costello from the Kefauver hearings as the basis for the character's accent.

Frank Costello (born Francesco Castiglia; January 26, 1891 – February 18, 1973) was an Italian New York City gangster who rose to the top of America's underworld, controlled a vast gambling empire across the United States and enjoyed political influence. Nicknamed the "Prime Minister of the Underworld", he became one of the most powerful and influential Mafia bosses in American history, eventually leading the Luciano crime family (later called the Genovese crime family).

Joaquín Guzmán Loera (El Chapo) Report Abuse
The most wanted man in the world. Loera is the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel and has been named “the world’s most powerful drug trafficker.” The Sinaloa Cartel is a drug-trafficking syndicate which primarily smuggles cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and marijuana into hubs around the world. The U.S. DEA strongly believes that Joaquín Guzmán Loera has surpassed the influence of Pablo Escobar as the “godfather of the drug world.” In 2011, Forbes magazine ranked one of the most powerful person in the world. He is also named one of the richest and a billionaire many times over. To keep a low profile, El Chapo is known to hold a vast collection of hideouts and underground fortresses. He is connected with many powerful government officials, police officers, and other businessmen who protect the cartels assets. On February 19, 2012, Mexican lawmen “nearly nabbed” Guzmán Loera in a coastal mansion in Los Cabos just a day after Hillary Clinton met with foreign ministers in the same peninsula. In May 2012, the U.S. Treasury Department announced that it would apply sanctions against Guzman’s sons under the Kingpin Act, which prohibits people in the U.S. from conducting businesses with them.

Lansky was the brains and power in Vegas, Luciano the fear, and Jimmy Hoffa the cheque writer, quite a team, then big pity, they killed Jimmy Hoffa in case he bumped off the new boss of the Teamsters who was writing even bigger cheques than Jimmy had been. It was all go, and a great time for all, the Big man in Vegas was Harrah of Harrahs Hasinos, and him who owned The Golden Slipper?

bugsy was a traitor in many people's eyes. he was killed by his own peers (lansky, luciano, etc) due to luciano finding out that bugsy was sending his girlfriend, virginia hill, to europe to stash away luciano's profits

not a very good boss. if it not for sammy he wouldnt have been boss. he was to stupid and got cought on every job he did for the mob. then he meets sammy and it all changed after that. he shouldnt have been allowed to be boss after the killing of his own boss. but he had sammy in his corner and no body messed with sammy. he gave the gambinos a bad rep after he took over and his family screwed it up ever since.his son was a realy big dummy and his brother peter was a realy stupid idiot.it seems that the gotti years were very bad for the gambinos. none of them should have been Bosses.i am shocked that the guys in the gang didnt clip the gottis for ruein there gang.i gues no one had the balls to do what should have been done.too bad.

I have done several reports for my criminology classes on this guy, and watching videos of him telling his daughter Victoria how to handle her sons was startling. This dude had NO compassion for anyone. He was a handsome guy before his right hand man Sammy the Bull ratted him out. The pictures they have of him in prison do not resemble the same man. I will never forget when he died, watching limo after limo drive to his burial spot with lavish flowers, etc. He had a funeral that was fit for an American President, or celebrity. He was a cold blooded killer. He is assumed to have killed his own neighbor when his neighbor accidentally ran over Gott's son on his bike killing him. All that was said of the neighbor is that he vanished. Ok uh no surprise there who was behind that one!!!!

With his twin brother Reggie Kray Ronnie was one of the most notorious and feared gangsters that London has ever seen, It is thanks to him that the mad axeman frank Mitchell was shot in the back seat of a car, although he has always denied it,the order to kill had most certainly come from Ronnie not Reggie. Ronnie did the unthinkable, he shot George Cornell at point blank in the blind beggars pub, it was late at nigh when the trigger was pulled but many people were drinking there when it happened although they were all to afraid to talk to the police about what they had seen. Of the two Ron was much more violent than Reg was, he defeated a famous boxer, shot a man in a local pub, stuck a sword through someones hand in a public snooker club and carved a smile into a mans face with a sword, i cant go on with how much more he has done, i dont have enough room!

Arthur Thompson Snr Report Abuse
He made over £100,000 a week and run Glasgow for years. He would nail his victims to their walls doors and floor boards but he wasnt completely evil as he would leave their wives a claw hammer to remove them from where they had been crucified. He also held Ronnie and Reggie Kray at gun point and made them kiss eachothers arses before telling them that he is Arthur Thompson from Glasgow and that they wont be forgetting him. He also shot someone dead in Glasgow city centre inside a packed nightclub on a saturday night but no one saw or heard a thing. Arthur Thompson was by far Britains most feared Gangster.

Mark Brandon “Chopper” Read Report Abuse
ne of the most notorious, feared, cloned, sensationalised and talked–about Australian underworld figures of the past century, Mark Brandon “Chopper” Read, has seen and done it all. Spending just 13 months on the outside between the ages of 20 and 38, Read has a long string of convictions including armed robbery, assault and kidnapping. Depending on who you believe, he has been involved in somewhere between 4 and 19 killings, largely of underworld figures, and according to Read, all on the grounds of self-defence. The Chopper story has been told, retold, Hollywood-ised, satirised for TV and stand-up, sung about, and penned by the man himself amongst his 14-odd books.

Dave Courtney Report Abuse
Because Dave insulted one of the all time most famous gangsters named mad Frankie Fraser. He became known as a good guy for the one reason that every street he has lived on, no one has ever robbed them while he was still there because Dave would hurt them and other criminals knew that. He was a gangster from just twelve years old when he threw a pathing slat at another kids head, he was eventually grassed up by his so called friend.

I agree with Lucky and Capone's numbers but come on; John Dillinger more successful than Anthony Accardo? Seriously?!

Donal Duck could be a very mean character when things didn't go his way. There was the time that Goofy wanted lead billing on all Disney cartoons. This incensed Donald and Goofy was never able to talk clearly again.
