I grew up in the South side Chicago burbs and started going to Chicago once or twice a week in early High School. Being a small female, I never had any issue even now at 25. You just have to know where to go and where not to go. Its a very big city, aviod parts around West side, around China Town. Never take the Green Line, ever. Around the White Sox park is pretty bad. Homeless people are the only issue Ive ever had but if you crack a joke by saying they have more money than you, they laugh and walk away. I love Chicago! Very clean city and the best food! Great music scene and top venues. Orlando, FL I think is a lot worst than Chicago hands down! I'm living out here for school and it is extremly terrible!

Crying shame..a year ago there was this honor student who got beat with a baseball bat-JUST BECAUSE. He was walking home and not involved in anything but, loser posing punks beat him-to death, becasue they just felt like it! Its sickening.

Well, it is not just black on black, there are things that go on in west omaha but they just don't tell you about that. There was a lady that had enough explosives in her house to level a city block. There are sheriffs and police officer husband n wives beating the hell out of each other. There are elected officials who can't let history go and aren't allowing people that were acquitted of crimes over 10 years ago holding it over people's heads that had nothing to do with it. The city is just corrupt and full of corrupt. Elected officials all the way down.

The reason why Detroit is ranked number one is becuase of a few reasons. The city doesn't even have 850,000 residents, the economy has hit the city extremely hard, auto factories laying off and the homeless rate is beyond high. Other than that it's not just dangerous on one side of the city, it's dangerous everywhere.

out here in tacoma almost every building has bullet holes in it and gunshots and sirens are praticly the citys soundtrack and you can get shot for stuff as little as wearing red shoes

Considering our population we are definitely one of the most violent cities. I have been in the Criminal Justice field for a long time now, and Albuquerque could rival any city , (when it comes to violence) under 1,000,000 people that's for sure.

I live in Baltimore its not dangerous at all, as long as you don't mess around with the wrong people, and thats just for inner Baltimore, try going to the Inner Harbour the best place about Baltimore lots of people go there a lot. Baltimore shouldn't even be on this list

I live in DET and just went to Bmore.... Baltimore is not even CLOSE to as ****y as DET. I hate DET and can't walk around at night there, Bmore wasn't even scary. The hoodlums are nice there. I love Baltimore.

I grew up there and yes it is a rough place to grow up and live but it is apparent that you have not been there much or through there at all. People like you kill me because if you did not grow up there you have no idea what you are talking about. I am 38 years old and lived in a great area known as the Horace Mann Area that was once inhabited by lawyers and doctors etc.., after they left, the neighborhood remained the same until the mid to late 90's. Please talk about the things you know and not what you have seen in passing.

i think da Gary Indiana is the most dangeous city in America cause it has some of the highest crime rates in america, and there is no rich neiboorhoods or nice places in gary to live in, unlike bigger cities like st.louis, which has nice parts of town

Salinas gets worse every year. Police Chief McMillan can't even keep his own gun from falling into the hands of criminals. With all the gang murders unsolved, as the witnesses never care enough about their community to even give an anonymous tip.

I was born and raised in Salinas, I've lived in the East side for my entire life, none of the people I know family or friends have ever been shot. It is true at some point it was bad, but leave the past in the past people!I agree with the comment below.

I think every city has its crime. Im a single mother born and raised in east salinas 36yrs. (Garner,Towt st.) Many of these comments are exagerated. I dont worry about shootings everyday or have to watch my back. I walk to the store at nite with no problems. I believe the media contributes to the negative perception people have about the east side. Bullets dont discriminate streets, gender, cities, or class!

I grew up in Salinas, went to Alisal High in the 70's a bad time for gang violence in the high school itself, I actually I dodged a bullet myself!! I did get in gang fights because I would not join the gangs and I hung out with white people. I don't think things are near that bad at AHS now Thank God! True that I am proud to have been raised here and to have been a graduate from Alisal High Go Trogans!! Igraduated from Hartnell and went on to San Jose State. Yes, people have to make choices and I choose the High road believe in God and he will guide you. It's sad Salinas has become a violent place to live and yes I look over my shoulder everyday I'm out! There are still alot of good people who live here and hopefully the Good people will prevail,but until then I'm careful and never let my guard down. I raised my 3 kids here and I'm a single parent by widow, it was tough but now all my children are college grads..Parents need to be involved their kids lives and a parent needs to be tough hold true to your word or their word means nothing to them..I can't say people should move here,but I have a good job here and for now it's home to me and probably will be till I retire.

Yes Salinas isn't the best place to live, but it's not as bad as yall are making it seem. I grew up & was or is being raised on the east side. i'm 16 go to Alisal High school which isn't the best school, but I like it. No theres not a shooting every week. Yes theres alot of shootings a year! It is scary tho, nowing that if yuh where certain clothes, hang out with certain people, or wear red or blue yur at risk of getting shot if your not involved with the wrong kind of peple then heres not to much to woryy about!

Philadelphia is a wonderful city to live in the problem is that the money is being put in the wrong places like center city. Neighborhoods throughout North Philly, Parts of West Philadelphia , Southwest Philadelphia, Frankford and Oxford Circle in the Northeast. and point breeze and grays ferry in south philadelphia are all the neighborhoods that need to be gentrified. we all need to turn toward jesus and stop listening to the life the hip hop media is telling us to live selling drugs making money getting hoes and not snitching Communitys need to start standing up and refusing to allow their neighborhoods to become urban warzones where people are shot and killed daily . Parts of North Philly look horiffic thats not to say that there arent nice parts in North Philly . Every city has its good and its bad parts. Memphis is the best place to live! The schools and people are very nice. Memphis is safe and fun. Beale st makes it awesome! I love the green line! Memphis shouldn't be on the list :)!

Memphis has done an excellent job at declining it's crime rate. The new green line and the night life is unbeatable. The young population is growing and it is a great place to live with loads of character.

It's not that bad here. St Louis doesn't have as many people as some other cities so when they (the statisticians) do the math it seems like we have more crime when in reality we don't. St. Louis is more prejudice and racially divided than it is dangerous. Visit the Central West End or the University City Loop and you'll have lots of fun. Stay away from Charlack (they send out camera tickets) and Ladue (they have orders from the Mayor to pull blacks over for DWB (Driving while black)).

I'm a resident of St. Louis, MO, and have been all my life. When it comes to our crime rate - it's called common sense. Alot of our crimes happen becasue people don't use common sense. Us ladies don't need to go jogging alone at midnight. And we don't need to leave our purses on the front seat for people to see and steal. Please visit St. Louis, MO, you'll love it!

Im from Toledo. This has got to be one of the most sad and depressing places to stay. With one of the worst poverty rates, number jobs lost, and federal funding of all mid size cities in the nation, it does not shock nor surprise me that its ranked as one of the worst cities in america. Ohio, as a whole, is a state on the decline and in my opinion rivaling any southern state as far as the amount of illiterate and poverty strickin communities.

Safe and fun city. Except you gotta be smart. Of course there is a bunch of crime in certain parts. Very poor parts too! However there is some very rich areas and nice areas too! Cost of living is great! There 3000 sq ft homes for only 250,000. Really affordable and fun city!
