There are two types of trains. Suburban train units are usually for short and middle distance journeys such as Richmond to Stratford in Greater London and Bedford/Luton to Brighton (via Gatwick Airport) and Sutton. Long distance trains are high speed trains (HSTs) such as those from London Paddington to and from Wales and the West Country and modern equivalents like Pendolinos in and out of London Euston towards the Midlands like Birmingham, the north west of England such as Manchester and Liverpool and Glasgow in Scotland.

Some of the day or longer railtours include sightseeing, a river cruise or travelling along a preserved railway e.g 'The North Norfolk Railway' between Sheringham and Holt, the latter was my most recent on October 5th.

Has to be my favourite form of transportation. Since I have travelled first class in 2002, the defunct Wrexham & Shropshire has to be the most memorable for me. As the name suggests, it provided loco hauled intercity services between London Marylebone and Wrexham General via Telford and Shrewsbury. I also enjoyed the 'Grand Central' route between London Kings Cross and Sunderland via York and the North East of England. I would definitely recommend railtours that provide both steam and diesel passenger operations.
