Getting good grades Report Abuse
When I was young, I wasn't allowed to play or watch tv if I got a bad grade on a test/report card.

Okay, that sounds awful. A lot of times kids don't get good grades because they don't understand the material. Instead of nagging them, you should help them. Make sure they do their homework (and check it, too) and study for tests. If they do the work but still don't get it, something is going on. Either they have a learning disability, they have problems concentrating, the teacher isn't effective or they are dealing with something else. Some kids with learning disabilities will never be A/B students no matter what you and they do. Forbidding them to PLAY isn't going to fix that. The best grade I ever had in math was a C. I had A's and B's in every other class. I just didn't get it. I did have a tutor and did my homework. This was really the best that I could do. I already felt like math homework and tutoring were punishments. If I had been banned from playing, I honestly don't know if I'd be here today. Because that way I would have probably never been allowed to play, period. I feel so fortunate that I had my parents, who helped me the best they could but still allowed me to be a child despite having bad math grades. When I did bad on a test that wasn't math, we just studied more for that subject so I could do better next time. Please keep in mind that this is something kids often just cannot help. They need help, not a fun ban.

Doing chores Report Abuse
In addition to homework and getting good grades, parents usually nag their kids about doing chores such as taking out the trash, washing the dishes, etc to teach them responsibility.

Yeah my parents were neat freaks. If there was even one dirty thing, they would yell like godzilla was eating them.
